Gas or Electric Stoves?
Which do you prefer?
Personally, I hate using electric elements on the stovetop. Terrible. It takes forever just to boil water and to heat up. It's hard to control the heat as well. Not hot enough, and too hard to control the heat well for stirfrying etc.... And its a bad shape for woks, though i do have a flat bottomed one, but its not the same.... |
I have never used a gas stove....only had electric.
|
Definately can't beat a good gas range. My parents have a glass-top amana gas range. It's awesome. Easy clean-up rocks.
I have been living in apartments for the last few years, which means that I've been stuck in electric hell. I love gas--you just can't beat the control of real fire, and you don't have the 30% line loss of electricity. The heat output is very dependant on the range. I have one element on my current range that throws off a tremendous amount of heat. It boils water really quickly. It takes 5-10 minutes to cool off, though. One of my friends actually had a gas range in his apartment, but all of the burners were really tiny. It took forever to heat enything up. Basically, you need a quality gas range. I'll spend $1300 on a range, no problem. If I'm going to use it every day, I want something that doesn't suck. Shit, I'm gonna end up spending $50,000 on my kitchen when I get a house. heh. |
Gas burners (at least 12000-15000 btu)...two electric ovens, one convection)
|
never had a a gas burner so I have to go with electric.
|
Gas. No question. If you're serious about cooking, there's no substitute for real fire.
|
I love using gas, but my parents gas range isn't the best. My dad laments not getting a better one; with maybe a hellfire hot wok burner and a seriously powerful rangehood - for the best steaks in all creation.
Ah well, maybe one day. |
Electric with solid glass top. I like an easy way to cleanup. The food has never tasted different when I went to my moms house to cook on her gas stove. Plus I won't have to worry about ordering gas.
|
Gas burners, electric oven. I have a Jenn-Air.
|
Gas burners are the way to cook, electric just doesn't offer the same level of control and feedback.
|
Gotta have gas!
The stove in my kitchen is a 60 or so year old Magic Chef. It has a pilot light for each pair of burners but you have to light the oven with a match. The only thing I don't like about it is not being able to put an 18x12 pan in the oven.
After winning the lottery I'll buy a 6-burner Jenn-Air...and find someplace to put this one...couldn't bear to part with it. |
i use a gas stove and it rocks...
be careful about using an older gas stove like jolt's. i bought one of those cool retro gas stoves from the 40s about 2 years ago. i had to light all the pilots. when i went to light the bottom one that's behind a door the gas had accumulated for far too long. i blew myself up. had to go to the emergency room. just facial and one arm with 2nd degree burns. (lost eyebrows, facial hair and all the skin on my nose fell off) bought a new gas stove and now i'm worry free. |
GAS !!!
Caveman cook with GAS !!! |
i'm a gas stove man....
you can't wok cook anything worth a stir fry on electric.... |
Gas stoves scare me :(
|
I dont do any real cooking, so i like the electric. BUt now that i have my own apartment, i got a bloody gas stove, its taken some getting use to
|
Gas is the only way to go. Once you try it you'll see how shitty electric stoves are.
|
I have an electric, sadly, cuz gas is awesome, like most of you have already pointed out. Just like my grandma has, that's what I dream of owning one day.
I guess it's like having sharp knives in your kitchen... you'd think it'd be more dangerous (than dull ones), but the opposite is true. Well I think that applies to gas stoves too. I mean, once you know what you're doing... |
Definitely gas. There's no way to get quick temperature changes with electric stoves.
|
gas for the stovetop and electric for the oven.
its the only way. |
Gas. My frying pan corners like it's on rails.
Agas (wood or oil-burning) are excellent, too. Cakes, pies, sausages; just open the door and stick 'em in:) |
Nothing but gas. Having cooked professionally and managed many restaurants, I could never use electric. the control you have with gas is unbeatable.
|
I have never used a gas stove just electric
|
Gas...no question.
|
The only advantage electric has is...umm...wait, wait, I'll think of one...it has those pretty swirlly coils?
|
wow, gas seems to rule bigtime.
My parents just got a new kitchen with one of those new generation gas stoves. Nowadays it's very handy with the electrical ignition of the fire ... easy |
How to safely light my old-ass gas oven - do the steps in this order:
Open oven door. remove everything from the oven that you do not intend to cook. (I can't be the only one who keeps the cereal boxes in there) Strike the match and hold it kindasorta close to the little doohickey in the front. Turn on the gas and then hold the match into the doohickey. The oven will light and in doing so, blow out the match. Close the oven door, put the match somewhere where it won't burn anything, and set the temp. |
I love cooking with Gas.
My mom has one of those glass top Electric ones, and has broken the top more than once. Not cheap to replace. |
I really dislike having to light cigarettes from an electric hob.
|
Although I've got electric in the apartment, I've had the opportunity to cook on several gas ranges, both commercial and residential, and NOTHING beats a good gas range. They heat quickly, allow me to roast peppers, and if you hit it just right, you can get that great flare up while you're cooking!
|
my new apartment has a shitty stove...it is an electric, but unlike most electrics that have two big burners and two small burners this one has one big burner and three small ones. makes it such a pain in the ass to cook
