what's your favorite bachelor/trash recipe?

here's my favorite casserole when i was 18-25.

in a deep dish alternate layers of chilli, fritos, cheddar cheese. then put three more layers on. bake at 350 for 20 minutes. eat.

damn good.

what's your favorite easy and bad for you recipes?

Pellaz 07-21-2003 05:04 PM

That actualy sounds awesome-baked frito pie!

Before the wife came along and made me start cooking 'real' food, one of my favorite meals was to chop up a couple hotdogs, throw some bbq sauce in a pan, simmer it for 5 minutes until hot, throw it on a plate and chow down. Serve with a side of beer.

QuasiMojo 07-21-2003 06:26 PM

Oh man
You dont wanna KNOW some of the stuff I've come up with
:)

tdogg 07-21-2003 10:34 PM

haha...........2 kilos of chicken wangs and 500 mls of bbq and or sweet chilli sauce......and about 1 bottle of coke/rum to wash it down...............................then let ur room mate clean it in the morning

dtheriault 07-21-2003 10:43 PM

we also used to buy a large bag of bacon scraps from smart and final and fry a ton of them until the house was smokey. then pour on mustard and watch boxing. (back when middle weights ruled... sugar ray, haggler, duran etc...)

living in america!

Slims 07-21-2003 10:56 PM

Ramen noodles with sausage and spaghetti sauce.

It only takes about five minutes to make, it's dirt cheap, and it is better than just ramen.

SomeDude 07-22-2003 06:55 PM

You can also crack an egg into your ramen a bit before it's done and mix it up good. It adds enough substance to make it seem like a real meal, and eggs don't cost much of anything. If you have some leftover (cooked) breakfast sausage to throw in along with it, that's even better.

Jolt 07-22-2003 07:21 PM

fake pizza, made with everything except crust, on a sheet of foil.

Also one of my favorite toppings for a real pizza is cut-up slim jims

TawG 07-23-2003 05:29 PM

i say... burritos and tacos :D

dtheriault 07-24-2003 12:22 AM

slim jims. never thought of that.

i wonder how they'd be in omlettes or in lasagna?

CanuckAlert 07-24-2003 08:54 AM

Left over rice and some cooked hamburger add a little bit of that powdery cheddar crap. You can use elbow noodles too.

My roommate made this "thing" with milk, thyme, coriander(I didn't even know we had any) pepper, cumin and curry. He simmered this for hours and the place stank for days.

rock 07-25-2003 08:01 PM

take a hot dog bun smear it with peanut butter add mustard and cheese and it taste just like a chili dog

Jolt 07-27-2003 07:08 PM

Just remembered another one...peanut butter sandwiches made with pop-tarts instead of bread...

Rodney 07-27-2003 07:50 PM

Fake pizza made with bread, american cheese, and ketchup under the broiler.

Kraft Mac 'n Cheese mix with cut-up turkey franks and peas thrown in.

Yogurt and M&M pudding; throw the M&Ms into the yogurt and mix in _Lots_ of sugar. Not recommended. Tastes weird, and also the acid in the yogurt will cause the food coloring to bleed off the M&Ms into the mixture, makes interesting colored trails through the yogurt.

Spaghetti sandwich. Leftover spaghetti and sauce, hot or cold, between two pieces of bread, with lots of mayo and some Swiss cheese. Unlike the other dishes I've described, I would still eat this. If my wife would let me.

DelayedReaction 07-27-2003 09:57 PM

Take a bun. Add ketchup and barbecue sauce. Eat.

dtheriault 07-28-2003 05:01 AM

the peanut butter sandwiches made with poptarts sounds good. should i just use plain strawberry or blueberry poptarts or does any kind work? (like the new finding nemo flavor)

i still eat spaghetti sandwiches except i use lots of butter and pepper. it's like a carb bomb.

Hanxter 07-28-2003 07:17 AM

Vienna sausages thrown in a crock pot with BBQ sauce and grape jelly - to die for!!! :D

Cujo 07-28-2003 02:56 PM

K. Try this. fry up 3 or 4 strips of bacon and fry em up real crispy like. Take the bacon out and crumble it up then throw in some diced up taters and onion and fry it in the bacon grease. then when thats done whip up a couple of eggs and throw it on top of the potato and onion mixture and stir the hell out it. Just before the eggs are done throw the bacon back in and mix. A little parsley and salt and pepper and instant heart attack. I used to love this for sunday morning breakfast.

dtheriault 07-28-2003 07:29 PM

this is how i used to gain weight in high school.
i was 6 feet tall and 125 lbs as a freshman.

take half a package of bacon and fry it. then take out bacon.
put a tortilla in the bacon grease and shred half a block of cheddar cheese on top. add the bacon and another tortilla on top. fry the whole thing until crispy.

i could hear my blood slow to a crawl after eating this.

i have no clue why i have high cholesteral now. ;)

dmay 07-28-2003 09:47 PM

A soft tortia shell ,a little tomato sause, some shredded cheese, anything else you like and a few min. in the oven.Much better then any frozen pizza

Marburg 07-29-2003 12:56 PM

get a bagel - cut it in two

get a block of cheese - cut 3 semi-thin slices off

put cheese in triange shape in between bagel slices

get ham slices - you know, the deli kind - fill up said bagel slices with ham

microwave

more addictive food ever!

Katyblu 07-29-2003 02:54 PM

Take your leftover Chinese food and mix them together and bake them. Trust me... you can mix tons of different kinds together and it tastes great.

Kec 07-29-2003 05:17 PM

Fill a casserole dish with alternating layers of mashed potatoes and cheese, put a couple hotdogs on top, add more cheese and throw in the oven for a bit.

Dibbler 07-29-2003 07:19 PM

Man, when I was a lot younger and poorer I remember eating dorito sandwiches.

My room mate and I would buy a loaf of cheap bread, big bag or Doritos and mustard. Make a sandwich and eat.

Ramon noodles were cheap but damn, that meant cooking!

actinic 07-29-2003 09:50 PM

KD/orange death with one or more of the following:

Chef Boyardee Ravioli
Puritan Irish Stew
Chilli

Really stuffs you to the gills

truenative 07-30-2003 08:52 AM

well I am an expert at being both a Bachelor and Trash....

the laziest way wold be to simply dunk a spoon into a jar of chunky P-nut butter then into a jar of honey and eat...repeat untill you need to smoke another bowl.

However remember guys...the best way to get Laid it to actually learn how to cook. Bring a girl home and throw down better than her own mother and she will take care of the desert. Penne A-la_Vodka is my favorite..you even get to light it on fire

lurkette 07-30-2003 09:01 AM

Super nachos:

Can of chili
Bunch of shredded cheddar cheese
Little bit o salsa

Nuke, stir till goopy
Dunk chips.
Mmmm....fond memories.

the above one and the leftover chinese food bake made me laugh out loud.

and peanut butter and honey by the spoon was a staple food for many a year. (you can also eat well by filling up on all the freebies at grocery stores/costco etc...)

majik_6 08-02-2003 12:55 PM

Here's one I learned from my step-dad (bachelor well into his 30's):

Slice a banana lengthwise

Spread Miracle Whip (mayo just doesn't have the "zing") on the cut sides

Sprinkle with paprika

Consume.

Suprisingly good.

At college, I ran out of food, and discovered all the ways you can dine on Guacachips and Diet Pepsi for one week, using only a microwave.

fuzzix 08-05-2003 04:46 AM

2 buns, cold meat, cornchips, cheese, olives pasted with salsa sauce.

mingusfingers 08-06-2003 09:05 PM

Grilled Cheese :D

Batman976 08-06-2003 10:49 PM

This thread is awesome! Since I'm still a young guy (21) I get to try all of these!

I'm a big fan of BBQ pork nachos. Get some Tostitos, sprinkle on some shredded cheese, add BBQ pork, top off with more cheese, and throw it in the microwave!

I actually got the idea from a BBQ resturant once. Can't remember where.

psykosis 08-08-2003 06:14 AM

I made this for my roommate when I was in college. We both about died.

Toast one slice of Texas Toast. Put one large burger patty on it (ours were about 1/2lb each). Then a slice of american cheese. Then one egg (over easy or sunny side up). Then another slice of cheese. Then cover the whole thing with steaming hot chili, and consume. Bacon can also be added on the burger patty beneath the cheese...

The whole plate felt like it weighed about 4lbs, and it just destryoed us. We didn't need to eat for a day or two...

themilk 08-09-2003 04:15 AM

Crazy Dip

5 Big spoonfulls of cottage cheese
1 big spoonfull of cour cream
3 big spoonfulls of pickle relish

yeah!! the best way this is done though is the morning after a nice dutch oven dinner with dutch oven taters and dutch oven cube steak. same thing with the bacon and eggs. throw it all in one oven and heat it up over the coals.... mmmmmmm nothin better

chewybaca96 08-10-2003 11:11 PM

this sandwich is good.... three slices of bread. take one slice and using a cup or glass just smaller than the width of the bread, cut the center out. take a full slice and put cheddar cheese...(like a grilled chees sandwich) then the slice of bread with the center cut out. fill that center hole with chili. cover with another layer of cheese. slap the other slice of bread on top, butter and throw in a pan and cook just like a grilled cheese sandwich, only with a chili upgrade.

Batman976 08-10-2003 11:12 PM

I'd just like to say "Three cheers for Ready Made bacon!" Just made a sandwich with it and didn't even have to fry up the bacon. It's so much easier to just throw away a paper towel than clean up a pan. Only 5 seconds per slice too. Yummy.

cowlick 08-13-2003 09:40 PM

1 cup cottage cheese
3/4 cup yogurt
1 cup blue berries
1 cup cereal flakes
2 Tablespoons peanut butter

mix, eat, repeat as necessary.

Had two servings this evening.

Flippy 08-13-2003 10:32 PM

Wow lol ... some of this stuff actually sounds good (greasy, and fattening, but damn good). I've never come up with anything as creative as the recipes mentioned here, but here's something -

Stirfry with whatever leftovers are in the fridge

Actually turned out quite well too :D

snicka 08-18-2003 12:04 PM

Death by Cholesterol:

deep fry a batch of french fries until they are nice and crispy
put them in a bowl
cover them with blocks of velveeta, bacon bits, olives, onions
cover that with shredded cheddar cheese
bake for about 20 minutes in a 300 degree oven or until cheese is melted
add herbs, sour cream, onions
enjoy

jwoody 09-04-2003 03:00 AM

Toast.

Or pasta and whatever I happen to have lying around (corned beef, baked beans, chilli con carne in a can, cheese, butter...)

jimk 09-04-2003 04:58 AM

tuna noodle jive

any noodles
can of cream soup
can of tuna fish (packed in water - oil tuna makes this dish gross)
*can of peas optional

cook noodles according to package instructions.
drain noodles.
add everything else & simmer for however long it takes you to crap/walk the dog/beat off/find the remote.......or whatever other bachelor activity you may be multi-tasking with.

ENJOY!!!!!!!!

Jadey 09-09-2003 10:26 PM

I ate several "fake" grilled chees sandwiches in college. Two peices of break with shredded cheese between thrown in the microwave. There was an Aldi Grocery store about 2 blocks from my dorm. A loaf of bread for 49 cents and 2 packages of cheese for a buck. Sometimes I would throw some bacon bits on the sandwich too.

Randerolf 09-11-2003 06:33 PM

I remember when i was disgustingly poor.

I was living off of SPAM and ramen and water. Not fun.

NOTE: You cann't marinate SPAM. It doesn't work. I tried. :)

numberfive 09-11-2003 08:03 PM

Mom taught me this one, it has served me well.

You'll need:

Tortilla Chips (any kind)
1 Can of Chili
Some cream cheese
Regular cheese *optional*

Spread cream cheese into the bottom of a casserole dish.
Pour some chili over that
Then more cream cheese
Then more chili :D
-repeat 'til out of supplies-

Stick in the oven for 5-10 mins, depending on how hot you want it to be ;)

Cooks fast and is easy to make.

JusticeForPhat 09-21-2003 05:16 PM

Beer Battered Eggs

Toss 3-4 eggs, some potato slices ( or tater tots ) and some cheese into a frying pan. Scramble the living hell out of them, and start dumping beer on them. Fry some bread next to it and you have yourself one helluva breakfast.

Dumping beer on anything improves the taste tenfold.

etardedraverboy 10-01-2003 07:35 PM

pizza omlets take 6 eggs and a pinch of milj (if you have it) then chop up left over pizza (i like to use peperoni) cook it up in apan and call it good

seethreepo 10-03-2003 06:08 PM

bobw 10-07-2003 09:00 PM

I used to live on 2 to 3 Totino's pizzas a day. at a total cost of $2.40 a day !

Plaid13 10-13-2003 01:18 AM

I like to take a big pan and throw in any leftovers i can find rice pasta chicken whatever any veggies i can find just a little butter a egg some bread crumbs and a very little bit of red wine and fry till it smells good =)

blade02 10-13-2003 08:24 AM

heres a "new school" one for you guys...
Take a package of the craft easy mac and a pack of the ravioli with meat sauce(the new microwave ones that come in boxes of 6 noodle packs and seperate cheese/sauce packs). Microwave the noodles together, then add the ravioli sauce, and then pour in the cheese powder, stir it all up and you have a decent helping of pasta with a real cheezy meat sauce. If you get bored of that, add bacos, lots of shredded cheddar cheese, and ranch dressing (kind of tastes like a baked potatoe).

Another one is compromised steak/cheese sandwiches. If you dont have a toaster oven or time to use a real oven. Take any of the meat and cheeses that you want on your sandwich, put them on a plate a microwave. Then take your bread and put in the pop up style toaster. When everything is ready, assemble your sandwich. You get the toasted taste and avoid the soggy bread, and the time it takes to use the oven.

jerseyboy 10-13-2003 12:47 PM

Just reading this thread makes me want to vomit. As bad as dining hall food is, it is nowhere near as bad as some of the things in this thread are.

saltfish 10-13-2003 08:49 PM

I lived off this one for a few months...

Can of generic "Chunky" soup and Egg Noodles.

I would buy 10 lbs of egg noodles, and a case of this generic "Chunky" soup.

Directions:

Boil 3/4 pound of noodles, 5-7 min, Drain.
In the same pot, pour in one can of soup. Heat for 1 minute. Add noodles. Stir.

Eat bfast/lunch/dinner.

Cost per meal, $0.33-$0.50

You can add in anything that was in the fridge, left-over veggies, etc.

;)

costello 10-25-2003 08:22 AM

my buddy and me lived off of this last year (freshman year of college):

two slices of bread
3-4 whole hot dogs per two slices of bread
peanut butter

microwave hot dogs till cooked, meanwhile slopping the peanut butter on both bread slices. place hot dogs on peanut buttery bread and mash together. very filling and the peanut butter keeps the hot dogs in place. good stuff :)

almostaugust 10-27-2003 05:25 AM

SO MUCH CHEESE EVERYBODY.

Did that too.
My own-
butter in a skillet, tortilla with cheese and whatever leftovers, or just cheese. Fold the tortilla over, Let it sizzle, and flip once, after the cheese has melted enough to stick to the other side of the tortilla- quesadillas!

Tophat665 11-22-2003 01:44 PM

OK, here is THE classic white trash recipe:

Fry three strips of Bacon. Remove from pan and drain and reserve the grease (you'll want it for something later.)

Wipe down the pan, then get half a stick of butter melting over medium heat.

While that melts, take two slices of white bread, slather with peanut butter. Slice a banana and press it into the peanut butter on one slice. Lay the bacon on top of that, then cap with the other peanut-buttered slice of bread.

Once the butter is melted, lay the sandwich down in it, then quickly turn it over to coat.

Fry until the bread is just on the brown side of golden.

Serve with beer.

Consult your cardiologist.

That's the classic Elvis Sandwich. Rather than using a half stick of butter, I use about a tablespoon of the leftover bacon grease to fry mine. I think it does a better job.

raist 11-23-2003 08:43 PM

Slice of bread with ranch dressing. Always munching on that
