Drank: the anti-energy drink!
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...rgy_drinks.jpg
You see them everywhere now: energy drinks containing a wide variety of ingredients, including caffeine, guarana, ginseng, taurine, vitamins, etc. They claim to give you energy, and for various purposes: sports, studying, or just for having a good time. But what about the rest of us who just want to chill out? There's Drank! Check it out: it's basically a grape-flavoured soda sold as an "extreme relaxation" drink, containing valerian, melatonin, and rose hips. Its tagline? "Slow Your Roll!" What do you think? Is this taking the beverage market too far, or is this a refreshing counterbalance to the pervasive energy-drink culture? Personally, I welcome the alternative. Some of us just need to chillax. And who wants to always have to turn to herbal tea all the time? And you can't really get one in convenience stores. There's a similar product in Quebec called Slow Cow, and Drank is coming to Canada within a couple of weeks. I'm more than willing to try it. Drank Beverage | Slow Your Roll! |
While it's nice to have options, it kind of reminds me of the dangerous cycle people can get into with things like laxatives or sleeping pills. It's important to allow your body to follow its natural rhythm, whether that's for sleeping or shitting.
|
You have a point, but I'm willing to believe they're far less harmful (and probably more useful) than energy drinks. I also don't think the ingredients are strong enough to elicit deep or long-lasting effects.

Isn't "drank" slang for cough syrup and soda? Change the name, at least.

I'd think an "anti-energy" would deplete one of energy, but I suppose putting one into "supposed" state of relaxation through beverage consumption is seen as 'same-difference'.
As long as this new soft drink is cheaper than the alternatives (wine, Snapple, and NyQuil), I have no qualms with them trying to create a new market where there was previously really no need for it. |
I think I'll stick with my usual relaxing beverages:

Ow'ma'an, I be up in da club aaaallll drank n' shi'it. I be livin it up an' this ain'tchyo regular grape soda brah, naw, this be drank, they be marketin' and sellin' this shit up in the gas station joint yo!
I think "drank" is stupid. |
Somewhat off topic - do those of you who drink herbal teas really find them relaxing? I've tried them and they just don't do it for me.
As for the OP...sounds like something I definitely won't try. If I want to relax, I take a bubble bath. |
For the record, this isn't something I'd use regularly or in place of other things I use to relax. I more or less see this product as an alternative to the beverages offered in convenience stores. Sometimes I'm just craving a soft drink as a treat. I'm often tempted to grab an energy drink just for kicks, but I always just go with a regular pop because I don't want to get "jacked." However, if I saw a Drank, I'd probably grab that. A grape soda that will have somewhat similar effects to an herbal tea? Sure, why not?

Traditional Medicinals "Throat Coat" not only eases my throat when it's sore, but it puts me to sleep every time. ---------- Post added at 01:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:24 PM ---------- |
Purple Drank (cough syrup with soda) was started here in Houston by a few rappers. A few people have died from overdosing on the codeine that's in the cough syrup. Apparently it's a big thing in the rap community.
My buddy tried Drank before and he said it works pretty well. Knocked him out. They sell it right down the road from here. Same price as any other energy drink. Yes, I would like to try some. |
Vanilla Sleepytime and Morrocan Red roobios both chill me out. Not knock me out, chill me out. I don't mess with melatonin or anything like that, but I have tried a nice cup of decaf green tea and a Calms Forte if I need to fall asleep.

Hello,
I think drunk is harmful. |
A company makes a carbonated beverage, tells the consumers it'll do something for their level of energy, then sells it for $3 a can. What else is new lol.

I find it fascinating that no one's shown an interest in this product when such a large percentage of TFPers partake in alcoholic activities.
Just sayin' ... I think it's worth a shot. I've done energy drinks maybe 1/2 dozen times over the years. They didn't do much for me. Gimme espresso, baby, when I need to wake up. Although I did enjoy lemon (and other fruit) drops with Red Bull. Quite a nice buzz in my experience. But I'm hyped enough all day. Sometimes I'd like to chill and this just might help me to wind down. I'd try it. |
Some stores here have decided not to sell energy drinks to kids under 13, who actually seem to be the biggest consumer group. It's not an official ban yet, I think.
Funnily enough I have never drunk them myself, I have had a bad habit to try and relax with a beer and sandwich before bedtime, it's not a good habit though. Last year I was pretty stressed due to lot of work and my schedule changing to evening work, so I had trouble sleeping. I decided to try passionflower extract. The first time I took few drops in a glass of water and I could feel the relaxing rush go through my body. Since then it didn't seem to have the same impact even with bigger doses. |
If I want to unwind I drink Scotch.

Grape soda does not seem like something I would associate with relaxation. Also, the association with 'purple drank' is very unappealing. I think I will stick with my standard 24oz mug of beer.
