a tasty tomato salad type thingy
i got this recipe from a magazine, it's pretty good. i dont much care for tomatoes. but i liked this. its beautiful, and tasty.
crush up a clove of garlic, either in your trusty mortar and pestle (what you dont have one? why not?) or your food processor. add about a tbs of mayo and a tbs of olive oil. you are basically making an aioli. slice up a tomato and fan it out on a plate. drizzle the aioli over the tomato. sprinkle on some sumac (not the poison kind) sprinkle on some some salt and some chopped mint (mint flakes work just as well) eat and enjoy. |
Add onions for win sauce.

this time, i think the simplicity of flavors work well, and onions might be a bit too much. but taste is personal, so try it maybe half and half? |
I grew tomatoes for the first time last year. I was overloaded. And I wasn't really a tomato lover to begin with but I just wanted to grow them to say I did. Not doing it again this year but anyways, I learned how wonderful tomato sandwiches are. Just make sure you use good bread. Like, thick cut sourdough would be awesome. Slap on some mayo, salt and pepper and you're good. Yum.

I tell ya, those upside down tomato baskets are bomb-diggity. Just water and wait. |
I never did the Topsy Turvy thing or whatever but it is a cool idea. I planted 1 Big Boy and 1 Sweet 100 in the ground. They both uprooted the tomato cages. It was just a big tangled mess. I probably had about 30 Big Boys total, but the cherry tomatoes - fuck me. Hundreds. Every morning I was out there with a stupid bowl picking. I just finally gave up and let them rot and fall to the ground. Now this year I have little plants popping up. Yay for Round Up.
