halo-halo

I had this today for the first time and I think a small part of my brain exploded from pleasure. Such an amazing combination of flavors, very subtle and not sweet in the slightest. I want to find a recipe to make halo-halo that someone else has tried with success. The mom that made it was pretty busy and doesn't have a recipe. I know that she used evaporated fat-free milk, purple yams, gelled coconut, some kind of sugar plums... Oh my.
I've had very bad luck with internet recipes for filipino receipes... like DISASTER outcomes. Someday, I'll attempt lumpia, but for now, I want to try this dish.

Anyone have experience with this one?
Please?
I will kiss feet. :)

I've had this a couple of times and I don't have a recipe but I do have... somewhere... a clip of a chef making it. If I can find it, I will see if I can't transcribe it for you.

I don't have a specific recipe, there's lots of little parts that go into it, so you'll have to find yourself a nice Filipino Grocery store. I have been to a couple in Florida in the Tampa area.

Pinoy recipe has been good to me when I can't locate some of my old grandma's recipes.

damn. the stuff I had did not have mangoes, and I'm sure of this as my lips would have been more DSL than Angelina Jolie's if it had.

We have a couple of fantastic filipino groceries in town. I'm going to try to go this weekend. :) I need some banana sauce (which I also discovered today) anyway.
