Burger King Ketchup & Fries chips...

http://www.usatoday.com/money/indust...er-chips_N.htm

So I was walking along at my local grocery store, minding my own business, when a logo catches my eye as being out of place.

"Burger King?", I wonder aloud.

Yes, Burger King has released potato crisps that taste EXACTLY like french fries with ketchup. And they're addictive.
http://i.usatoday.net/money/_photos/...rgerchipsx.gif
I'm a health-conscious guy, but I'm having trouble getting these things off my mind. I'm now using them like other, normal people use croutons; in my salad. Still, this stuff is dangerously addictive, and I feel a moral obligation to warn everyone.

BEWARE!

allaboutmusic 02-02-2008 02:50 AM

They sound amazing. I like the ketchup-packet styling too...

dlish 02-02-2008 04:36 AM

umm.. does the ketchup come seperate?

allaboutmusic 02-02-2008 04:39 AM

Do you particularly like BK ketchup?

OMG...these look AMAZING.

I love ketchup flavored potato chips, but they're really hard to find. Probably a good thing, as I'd eat too many.

SSJTWIZTA 02-02-2008 12:51 PM

Oh, Sweet.

this new habbit im about to form will probably outweigh most junkies meth addictions.

Baraka_Guru 02-02-2008 01:06 PM

What?!

http://www.qsrmagazine.com/articles/...urger_king.jpg

There's a flame-broiled burger flavour too?!

I can see myself now. 3 months down the road, obese and hanging on to life all because of these chips from hell.

Willravel 02-02-2008 06:14 PM

I BEG YOU! Heed my warnings, fellow Tilts! These are delicious snack foods of DOOM!!

I have met the enemy, and it is me, or rather my appetite!

Plan9 02-02-2008 06:16 PM

I'm glad that I don't have a weakness for snack foods.

You've been eating tuna every day for like 2 years and this wouldn't tempt you? Jesus man. You're like a machine.

The muscles that he's referring to his abdominal muscles. You can extrapolate from there. ;)

On topic - I must find and try these chips.

The_Jazz 02-03-2008 08:05 AM

But... Burger King fries suck!

Lucifer 02-03-2008 08:09 AM

I'd have to take a pass on this, not liking ketchup, but this packet from Scotland remains the epitome of potato chip flavour for me:

allaboutmusic 02-03-2008 09:34 AM

The lamb and mint is nice - but my favourite has to be salt and vinegar... divine. Other interesting flavours we get here include beef and mustard, Thai sweet chili and Marmite!

spindles 02-03-2008 04:57 PM

These would be one of my favourite flavours

Sugarmouse 02-03-2008 05:15 PM

lol whatever the fook next.I bet theyd make me hovel.lolbut i understand the appeal.

LoganSnake 02-03-2008 08:42 PM

I'll be on the lookout for these. So far no chip has been able to sway me away from TGI Friday's Baked Potato Skins. If this does it, then I will truly be amazed at its potency. Until then, it's just another wannabe in my eyes.

Plan9 02-03-2008 09:00 PM

WHOA! You try the new flavor, Will?

Blasphemer!

I'll be on the look out for those next time I go grocery shopping. I fuckin' love BK fries.

Redlemon 02-06-2008 09:51 AM

I tried to find them in the local convenience store. Didn't have them, but there were about 5 varieties of TGIFriday's chips, clearly made by the same company.

edit: T.G.I. Friday'sŪ Salted Snacks, in Mozzarella Snack Sticks, Onion Rings, Chili & Cheese Potato Skins, Cheddar & Bacon Potato Skins, and Sour Cream & Onion Potato Skins.

Burger King Snacks Expand Test Market
LINK
PHOENIX -- Food manufacturer and marketer The Inventure Group Inc. said it plans to pursue a national rollout of its Burger King brand of salty snacks in the vending channel, after its test marketing results exceeded managements' expectations in the fourth quarter of 2007, the company stated.

"Strong initial shipments and consumer takeaway from the vending channel led to our decision to implement full national expansion into one of the company's largest channels," Eric Kufel, Inventure president and CEO, said in a statement. "We intend to implement Burger King brand salted snack test markets in other major channels during the first half of 2008. Though still early in the test market process, the brands' vend channel performance has exceeded our test market expectations to date and we are cautiously optimistic about the potential of this exciting new brand."

Test marketing in the convenience, drug and grocery channels began in the first quarter of 2008 and has generated significant retailer interest, according to the company. Meanwhile, mass merchandise and club store tests are expected to begin during the first half of 2008, while Burger King quick-serve-restaurants are scheduled to test the Ketchup & Fries snack product throughout the first quarter of 2008 in markets in Ohio and Florida, the company stated.

In addition, Inventure is developing more new items for the Burger King snack line for potential test marketing in the second half of the year, which will complement the Ketchup & Fries and Flame Broiled products, the company stated.

They are the same company, Inventure. Inventure also owns the old Keebler brand "Tato Skins", Poor Brothers, among other brands of snack foods and frozen berries.

For those who invest and are looking for something on the cheap with a good chance to move up, Inventure seems to be a decent shot.

Why not just go to Burger King and get some fries?

Cause potato chips typically cost less per serving compared to fries, and I can't keep hot greasy fries hot and greasy for long. They don't store well. Potato chips do, though.

kcurrin 02-08-2008 02:41 PM

Oh my gosh, I've just developed a craving and I've never even tastes them.

silent_jay 02-08-2008 04:39 PM

Are these available in Canada?

Willravel 02-08-2008 05:00 PM

Probably not yet, but since we have the RIAA/MPAA I'll call it even.

IMO they were okay. I actually would have liked them better without the "ketchup" flavouring.

gh0ti 02-09-2008 02:16 PM

Hmm, I looked around for these at the local grocery store the other day, they didn't have them. I guess they haven't made it down to Florida yet.

lagoonguy 02-14-2008 06:05 AM

not in georgia either. flavored chips is always a little strange to me, cuz there's nothing 'natural' about potato chips tasting like ketchup is already in them... but i guess it's no different than BBQ chips, which i do like, so maybe i should just accept the artificial world we live in

Ketchup doesn't grow on trees.

What if I made you a dish where I cooked potatoes with onion, vinegar, salt and pepper, cloves, allspice, and tomatoes? That's basically the whole thing, other than preservatives. Oh, and sugar and cinnamon, which are usually ingredients in a decent ketchup.

snowy 02-14-2008 08:41 AM

You forgot garlic, will, which is also frequently found in a good ketchup.

Willravel 02-14-2008 09:05 AM

Ah, of course! I must have been just waking up to forget garlic.

Damn MPAA\RIAA, hate those bastards. I'll have to take a gander for these chips tonight at the grocery store, need to try something different.

spectre 02-15-2008 03:36 PM

I have to agree with Will. I noticed these in a vending machine at school a few weeks ago, and they're damned good.

777 02-15-2008 03:39 PM

/me makes a note to buy these BK thingys and see why they are driving Will insane

Ustwo 03-14-2008 09:23 AM

This reminds me of a sad event in my life.

My school vending area installed a 'fry machine'.

It would cook the fries right there when you hit the button, as in frozen ones fell in hot oil and you got fresh fries every time.

It was awesome, it was heaven, it made a 2 hour lecture seem like a happy place.

It....made the entire school smell like french fries. About two weeks later it was gone due to some administrator complaint.

They gave us a glimpse of nirvana and snatched it from us.

Life, has not been the same.

DEI37 03-14-2008 07:30 PM

These things are nasty. Now, if they were Wendy's fries, that would be alright. But, BK fries are the worst in the industry by a long shot.

I'm going to guess someone figured out that 'really hot oil', 'unsupervised' and 'vending machine' didn't work out so well.

allaboutmusic 03-16-2008 11:10 AM

Air-cooked fries. Sounds like turbocharged convection baking. I want one.

ItWasMe 03-25-2008 06:53 AM

I still haven't found any BK chips around here. The TGIFridays chips are good, though. Especially the mozzarella stix chips.

Edit: I found them today at a Plaid Pantry. The Fries/Ketchup aren't bad. But the Flame Broiled ones are pretty good.

Church 03-25-2008 08:26 PM

Haha, crazy American grocery stores and their lack of ketchup flavours! This is one of the most common flavours here in the great north. lol

jewels 03-26-2008 12:21 AM

We actually designed those at my office. (the packaging graphics)
I thought they were pretty nasty smelling and couldn't bring myself to taste one.

100% agreement.

In the UK, BK put some sort of wanky varnish on their fries. Yeurch!

You're not missing anything. Don't worry.

jewels 07-17-2008 11:59 AM

They're actually not bad. My daughter found them today, of all the places, in a Walgreens. Even the cashier asked where we found them and couldn't wait to get herself a bag.

I give it a thumbs up. Better than most of the regular potato chips out there.
