Noodle's Adventures: KCMO and San Francisco... what to do?
 

Ah, yes.
The insanity that is my life.

I'm heading to school again this year the last week of July in KCMO.
I plan to hit the Maker's Mark bar at least once, even if I have to go alone.
But I'm looking for things to do to keep myself occupied in the evenings near the Gas & Light District and the area of town near all those Conference Centers... near the Hallmark place.
That's where I'm staying.
I won't have a car and S is having surgery that Monday the 26th in Sacramento,
and I'm trying to keep myself sane and not having panic attacks sitting around in the evenings after classes are over.
I'll be in town from the 25th in the evening through Friday night, the 30th.
If anyone has any ideas or knows of anything going on, that'd be awesome.

I fly out of KCMO at 7am directly to Sacramento to receive my doped-to-the-gills
significant other who will have a 6 - 10" incision where the laminae from L-5 to S-3
will have been removed.
Literally airport to hospital room.
We drive that afternoon to San Francisco, where a friend of ours got us a
$50/night deal at a Brisbane/Airport hotel until the 5th when we go back to
Sacramento for his post-op.
So there, I'm looking for reasonably priced and non-physically taxing things to do.
S is a food-person, so I want to take him to Berkley for crepes
and the Haight for some exploring and the sammich shop he saw on
Man vs. Food, Gordon Biersch for beerz, and if there is a God somewhere,
the Thai barbeque place I went to in 2004 will still be there.
We'll have a rental car, so I'm going to drag him to Sonoma to hit Viansa,
so I can purchase and ship some wine home.
I've already told him he will cooperate or I'll dump an extra percocet in his coffee.
I loved SF when I went and I hope that he'll be able to enjoy the trip, somewhat.
I'm looking for a good pho joint (I'm going to drown him in the stuff), coffee spot,
pub, daytime and nighttime entertainment that, again, won't kill his back.
Normally, we'd hit Muir Woods, the PCH to Half Moon Bay, etc.
Anyone know local joints that are those must see places that are described
with "if you ever go _______, you just HAVE to _________" for San Francisco?

And, if anyone is in either area, hit me up, yo.
Especially, KCMO... TOASTER. :lol:

Blessings to you and S Noodle, you are an amazing person from what I have read here at TFP and I wish you all the happiness possible, I will be thinking of you and yours as the big day nears, I have a dislike of surgery but recognize it's worth, all will be GOOD. :)

Have you ever been to The Cliff House along the coast, it is quite a photo op place, and the history is amazing. Another amazing photo op is Twin Peaks, I don't remember if you can drive directly up to the top anymore but if you can you can see from bridge to bridge and then some from there. Twin Peaks: San Francisco's BEST View.

The San Francisco Symphony is one of the best in the country. If you get into town in time on the 25th, there's going to be a free concert at Delores Park starting at 2.

Just returned from SFO area. Santa Rosa has a hopping night life. Santana owns a club there called "The Cantina," it's located on a stroll with several other somewhat trendy clubs. "S" may not be up to heading out for dancing drinking. I've always enjoyed the Presidio Park. There's also the Fine Arts Museum and the de Young, I try to hit them when in town and have time.

If you're up for a slice I like Mary's Pizza Shack, think they have about 20 locations in the small towns north of SFO.

I second Idyllic's Twin Peaks suggestion for great views of the city(s) and you can always find a stripper somewhere in SFO going by the name of "Twin Peaks." I think Carol Doda started that. I have no idea why I know that.

Speaking of views, just north of the Golden Gate you can exit and head up a hill for some great shots with the city in the background. At sunset these can be amazing scenes. I can't remember the name of the exit but I'm pretty sure it's the first one after the bridge.

The sammich shop he saw was likely "Ike's Place" interesting menu with sandwiches like "The Ex-Boyfriend," "The MILF" and "The Al Bundy." Our first trek there the line was long and we gave up and ate elsewhere. We returned a couple days later, early afternoon and managed to get served. Their "dirty sauce" is different and I wasn't sure I liked it, after a couple bites it grew on me.

Speaking of north of SFO, lot's of road construction on 101 right now, might want to keep that in mind when planning trip times.

If you're looking for stationary things to do: just hanging out in Golden Gate Park on a sunny afternoon is nice, as is the beach in San Francisco. Hit up the beach across from this surf shop: WISE SURFBOARDS---HOME and you'll definitely see something worth watching. The last time I was there I saw some really cool displays of kiteboarding. Of course, it's a lot cooler than the beach where you are from, temp-wise. Be prepared for that!

The other nifty beach that's a short drive from where you will be is Pacifica; there's a Taco Bell on the beach and lots of surfers to watch.

Right, Lindy, I reviewed that thread before posting this one and I was able to do some of the things on the list, but not having a car was a significant impairment. I was not able to hit any of the BBQ joints as they weren't within walking distance. I took a cab to the museum which was retarded expensive and explored Union Station and the Hallmark Center areas.
This year I know where I can get to, physically, so I asked about the G&L district and Hallmark Center, just in case something new had cropped up.

S is actually starting to view the SF leg of our trip as a potential mini-vacation and his mood is better about exploring and seeing what he's able to do after surgery. Hooray!
