Cedar Point?
Okay, so I have a season pass to all Cedar Fair parks for this year, and I really want to go to Cedar Point for the first time.
Anyone interested? I'd be able to drive up (late) on a Friday, stay in a hotel for Fri/Sat night and drive home early afternoon on Sunday. It's about a 7 hour drive for me. Kings Dominion sucks and I probably won't be going to Kings Island much now that I don't have much reason to go to home to the Cincinnati area (bitter, anyone?) soooo.. Cedar Point? Please? |
Cedar Point kicks ass (or at least it did back in '89 when I went there). Now I'm jealous because I can't go.
|
I could do a Saturday in August. Do they have a water park? I'm not a huge roller coaster person. The last time I was there (about 15 years ago) they had enough rides that I liked though.
|
I couldn't do Cedar Point this year - only got the gold pass to Kings Island. That said, if you are in the Cincinnati area and want to go, let me know! :)
|
I'd go with you, but I'm going to boot in a few weeks here. have fun with ASU! Don't forget to scream.
|
I can definitely do a weekend in July or August. I'm pretty sure they do have a waterpark.
Shoegirl, I'd love to go to Kings Island with you sometime! That would be awesome. :) |
I could do Kings Island too (I've never been there, but I think it is closer).
|
only 7 hours from Virginia???? really? damn. it's much further from NYC, but I'm trying to figure out when I can go this year.
|
ASU: Cedar Point is in Sandusky (right on Lake Erie, between Cleveland and Toledo), Kings Island is in Mason (north of Cincinnati).
Cynth: Yep, it's a 6 hour, 53 minute drive according to Google (which means less for me in my Mazdaspeed3, ha), about an hour less than driving to Cincinnati. |
Cedar Point is more fun...but Kings Island is closer for me. I'd be up for either, assuming I could get off work.
|
Just be careful for the mayflies. I was there last week and it was quite gross. The coasters were awesome though!

Would August 8th or 15th work? July 25th might also work. I would also be willing to go to Soak City on Sunday until 5 or 6 (If we go to Cedar Point). I do have a free night in a Holiday Inn to use. Aren't there more people who live in Ohio/Michigan (Even Chicago) here? |
I'm currently planning on going to Cedar Point the 18-19 of July.
I'm sure I can be convinced to go again in August (not sure which weekend will be better for me, will have to check the calendar again), or go to Kings Island instead. :) I MIGHT be home next weekend for the 4th and kinda want to go to Kings Island while I'm home for a bit. Waterpark, maybe. |
I won't be around for the 4th, but I might be able to do the 18th-19th, but I need to know pretty soon. I'll be off-line from this Saturday until the 13th of July.
Do you not like waterparks? I'm not a big rollercoaster fan (I would get sick if there are too many steep drops). |
I usually go to amusement parks for the rollercoasters. Waterpark is always an afterthought to me, though I DO love the lazy river. :)
|
I'm a big fan of water slides, and in the July/August heat, I would rather be swimming in the water than standing in line. ;)
If you know anybody that will be around here in the next two months from TFP, could you PM them and ask if they would want to go to Cedar Point? It would be great if they could reply to this thread. |
Dangit! Why do so many of you awesome people have to be talking about so much fun so close to me!!! Gr.
I am utterly bogged down with labwork at the moment and Tt is in the midst of an intensive summer semester. We won't be able to make it. :( |
Spending a few hours on a Sunday having fun wouldn't be the end of the world. It would probably be good to unwind and relax for a little.
|
ASU: How would you feel about just Kings Island sometime in August? There I'm more up for the waterpark, since I'm much more familiar with the rollercoasters. :)
Kings Island would also be more doable for GG and CinnamonGirl, I think. GG: You will have to let me know if you're available at all for whatever weekend we choose, because I can always come and steal you since my parents are about 15 minutes from you. :) |
I can get to Kings Island and back home in a short drive, so it's not a problem whenever we do this. Either one of the second two weekends in August would work out great.
|
Crap. I've been wanting to go to Cedar Point for over a decade. Won't happen this year though.

And ASU: you're right. A couple of hours on a sunday sounds like a lot of fun. I will try try try to get myself freed up for a half-day of TFP-ness. I WANT TO GO!!!!! arg. |
Count me in for a group trip to Kings Island, as long as the date works. I'm in and out of town on the weekends this summer, but I'm sure we can all find a day to go! YAY!! :)

Cedar Point.
The worst amusement park experience I have ever had was a Cedar Point. My wife and I were there about 3 days before the big east coast blackout. We were supposed to be there for 4 days but quit after 2. The lines were horrendous. One roller coaster we waited 3 1/2 hours for. We got on an hour after the park closed. Every single line was hours of wait, for two days. Sure, the rides were good, but not that much better than other places. I was so bad, we decided to finish our vacation in Detroit rather than stay at Cedar Point. PonyPotato, what is wrong with King's Dominion? The rides are great, and plenty of them. Area 51, the Anaconda, the Rebel Yell backwards, Shockwave, Volcano, Grizzly, and the Crypt. Since I left the area several years ago, it looks like they added the Ricochet, drop tower, and Dominator. The Avalanche isn't too bad, either. Do you remember the King Cobra? Plus, the drive from the DC region was better there than to Busch Gardens. And Wild World was a joke until six Flags took over. But it was still full of criminals from Prince Georges County. |
new man: Kings Dominion just SUCKS. I virtually lived at Kings Island every summer growing up, and Kings Dominion doesn't compare. There are no impressive rides - all of them left me wanting something like the Beast or Diamondback - and the one ride that surprised me with its speed was Volcano, which I waited in line for almost 2.5 hours to ride and the ride itself lasted something like a minute.
FYI, since Cedar Fair bought both KI and KD, there is no longer a backwards racer/Rebel Yell. I like rides that actually impress me, and luckily Kings Island has at least a handful of those. Perhaps I'm just weird or needy, but Kings Island is nicer, too. I expect Cedar Point rides to be better than Kings Island, and I don't care about waiting in lines as long as the ride is worth it. Volcano wasn't worth it, and neither were most of the rides at Kings Dominion that I had to wait for. It wasn't worth the 2+ hour drive to get there, either. |
I finally have a date for Cedar Point!
I will be going next weekend (Aug 15) to the park, but will be in town from laaaate Friday night to Sunday around noon. A couple friends from Fredericksburg are coming with me and a friend from Findlay is meeting up with me at the park. I can't wait! |
