Superdawg Chicago

OK, let's round up Chicago folks and anyone who wants to visit our lovely city.

We're going to make a date to partake in some delicious Superdawgs.

Who's in and what day/time works?

JJ and I are open since it's summer so you poor saps who work all year round can throw out some times. ;)

The_Jazz 07-02-2008 04:02 PM

Well, weekends are the only thing that work for me, unless I randomly happen to be coming home from O'Hare at just the right time.

Most Saturdays and Sundays work, and I'm about 15 minutes away. I might bring the family, too, since The_Wife and Max both love Superdawg (especially the shakes). So if we can agree on a weekend day, I'll almost certainly be in.

amonkie 07-02-2008 04:41 PM

Not sure if this was on the agenda for this coming weekend or not...awfully short notice but hey, you're all in the same city :p

Cause I'll be in town this weekend...

spectre 07-02-2008 07:12 PM

WOOHOO! I live not too far from there and they're awesome! I'm in! :D

ratbastid 07-02-2008 07:45 PM

You know what? I'll be in Chicago and plan-free the evening of Friday July 18th...

SecretMethod70 07-02-2008 08:33 PM

well shit, talk about short notice...I'll see what can be done.

There hasn't been an official date set yet. Those are just ideas floating around. Monkie is going to be in this weekend, but to get a bunch of people together for that is short notice although not impossible if people are willing. This thread was in regards to the hot dog thread in general discussion.

Ratbastid, where are you going to be staying in Chicago? If Superdawg doesn't come through for Friday possibly some of us could meet up for coffee or tea.

Maybe, I should have made a general, "Find yourself in Chicago? Let's get together." thread... :)

ratbastid 07-03-2008 06:15 AM

I'm game for anything! And if it doesn't work out this trip, I'll be back a couple times a year for the foreseeable future.

I'm staying at the Holiday Inn at Mart Plaza, which is off Orleans. I won't really have my own transportation, either, so something walkable from there would be best, unless somebody wants to come get me.

That's only a few blocks from our old apartment.

If you want a really good bacon cheeseburger and chili cheese fries, we should make plans to go to Portillos. Of course, the restaurant offers a ton of grill items and Italian foods so it's a pleaser for everyone, even vegetarians. It's only a few blocks away from where you are staying.

I don't know if it's better than Superdawg since I haven't been there, but it's a hell of a lot closer.

What times are you thinking of?

The_Jazz 07-03-2008 04:35 PM

Well, if we're moving this to better accomodate ratbasid - which is an idea I'm 100% behind btw - Portillo's is fairly convenient to his hotel. I think that the Gold Coast Dog on State and Grand is closed, which is a shame. The Weiner Circle is fairly easy to get to and find, but I don't know if I can go there in the daytime and not act like a drunken asshole - I'm pretty sure that there might be legislation requiring it. It's also probably walking distant for you guys, Shesus, if I have the locale of your new place pegged right from the pictures in your journal.

There are also some places in the Loop (Luke's, the Gold Coast at Northwestern Station), but I don't know if they're even open on a Saturday.

Huey's on Balmoral and Clark is pretty good, but I only mention it because it's the closest to my place, but if I have my druthers, I'm going to Wolfie's on Peterson and California.

I know I'm forgetting some place major, but it will come to me. Maybe there's something in Wrigleyville I'm forgetting.

onodrim 07-05-2008 04:07 PM

I would be happy to do something the night of Friday the 18th, that works well for me. :) I work until 5:00, but I have a car, so I can get anywhere in the city by 7:00. I have no objection to Portillos, as that is close to ratbastid's hotel and delicious. I hope this works out, it'd be great to see everyone! :)

I also just realized that Friday night happens to be opening night for The Dark Knight, so perhaps if there was interest, we could make it a dinner and movie night. :) I'll be going to see it either way. :p

shesus 07-05-2008 10:21 PM

So, it looks like it will be Portillos on Friday, July 18 around 7:00.

Of course, that's if it sounds good to Ratbastid.

ratbastid 07-06-2008 06:27 AM

This is awesome. The meeting I'm attending is on Orleans and Institution Place (one block north of Chicago Ave.) so it looks like Portillo's is about the same distance walk from the hotel. I'd totally be up for Dark Knight too.

JumpinJesus 07-06-2008 10:23 AM

Isn't that the Moody Bible Institute?

I can't wait for Portillos. It's gonna be good.

And hopefully no one's capa will get detated.

spectre 07-09-2008 04:05 PM

Sweet, Portillo's!

Shouldn't be a problem if we stay away from Subway!

 clever....

I am glad to see the chi-town crew reunited :D It just seems like the universe works better with JJ and shesus there!

Oh and speaking of subway Spectre... I finally tried Jimmy Johns... it IS better than subway.... in fact, it's downright addicting...

shesus 07-09-2008 06:41 PM

So are we shooting for dinner and a movie?

Dark Knight is showing at 10:30 at the closest theater to Portillos.

Or for an extra walk, not a bad walk though, it's showing at multiple times: 8:30 9:15 10:15 10:45 11:15pm 12:15am.

ratbastid 07-09-2008 07:59 PM

I dig Jimmy Johns (mostly because they're so fast I freak), but Quiznos is still my one true love, sandwich-wise. Hard to beat the toasty goodness.

I'm totally game for dinner and a movie! I vote we do dinner at 7:00 and then shoot for the 8:30 or 9:15 movie.

SecretMethod70 07-09-2008 10:14 PM

A time should be set and advance tickets should be purchased if people are going to see Batman. Enthusiasm for this movie is pretty high.

I'm totally unsure whether or not I'll be able to make it, but I hope so. I'm starting a new job on the 17th and it may involve working Friday night or early Saturday morning. Or it may not.

If we end up buying advance tickets for the movie though, I think I'd be willing to risk the $15 in order to be sure and join you all if I can make it.

Have you had Potbelly's? They kick Quizno's ass imo. They have a sandwich called A Wreck which is sex on bread...but I digress.

Those times sound good to me. I suppose we could get the tickets in advance. I think the 9:15 movie would be better so we aren't rushed to eat and run since the theater is a bit of a walk.

JumpinJesus 07-10-2008 07:54 AM

Just so everyone knows: when you get your tickets the theater is AMC River East 21 on E. Illinois.

World's King 07-10-2008 08:20 AM

I wish I could go.

LoganSnake 07-10-2008 10:48 AM

Lucky Strike is a nice place to meet up. Bar + bowling + food + AMC theater next door.

Bowling + drinks + Dark Knight = win.

http://www.bowlluckystrike.com/

There's a 70% chance I'll be there next weekend with a friend.

Is there a way to buy them online? Or can somebody grab me one?

There is. You pay with a credit card online, then walk to a machine in the lobby, stick your card inside and get the tickets.

Buy them here: http://www.movietickets.com/house_de...?house_id=8267

ratbastid 07-10-2008 12:40 PM

Awesome. And we've settled on the 9:15?

LoganSnake 07-10-2008 12:44 PM

Is this happening on Friday the 18th? I'll probably be there to see the movie on that day after work. Need to finalize the details with the person I'm going.

spectre 07-10-2008 04:47 PM

I'll be there, I'm just waiting on buying a ticket to make sure I'm not the only one going. :p

JumpinJesus 07-10-2008 05:17 PM

Shesus and I are a go. We'll be there, spectre. Go ahead and buy a ticket.

okay, is spectre gone yet?

Okay, now that spec's got his ticket, let's go see Kitt Kittredge: An American Girl. tee hee, he'll feel so foolish going to Batman alone.

onodrim 07-11-2008 06:09 AM

I think the 9:15 is best also, better not to be rushed. It seems we're pretty much settled on that.

So 7:00 dinner at Portillos, and then 9:15 movie, sounds great. :) I'll go ahead and buy my tickets later today. (Not for the American Girl movie JJ, very funny :p )

Logan Snake - Yeah, we're talking about Friday the 18th.

LoganSnake 07-11-2008 07:56 AM

Not gonna make the 9:15 show, I don't think.

The_Jazz 07-11-2008 08:08 AM

It's not looking good for me. We've had 3 babysitters say "no" and only 1 left to hear from. Regardless the movie's too late for The_Wife (and most likely me too), so we'd head home.

JumpinJesus 07-11-2008 08:20 AM

what the hell?

At least you two can make it for Portillos, right?

Drew goes down at 6 or 6:15 and Max goes down at 7:15 or 7:30. If we can get a sitter, then we'll be there for dinner, but so far no go with any of our usuals.

LoganSnake 07-11-2008 08:36 AM

I get off work at 5. By the time I get home and change it will be 6:30. By the time I get downtown to meet up with a friend (who I'm meeting from another forum, coincidentally), it will be around 7:30. Me and him are going to catch Dark Knight at the same theater as you guys, but at a later time.

Sorry to disappoint you JJ, but I haven't purchased my ticket yet. I just found out from work that I have to go to Florida for two weeks and I'm just waiting to find out when I'm going. If I'm in Chicago the day of the meetup, I'll be there.

SecretMethod70 07-12-2008 03:55 AM

sheesh, by the time Friday rolls around there won't be anyone left! :(

ratbastid 07-12-2008 04:03 AM

I'm still coming. I have my plane ticket and everything.

JJ and I will definitely be there. But we're not just anyones. ;)

onodrim 07-12-2008 10:40 AM

Has anyone purchased their tickets for the 9:15 show yet? I went to do it this afternoon, and it seems that the 9:15 is either sold out already or you just can't buy for that time online anymore. If people have already bought tickets, then I guess I'll (and probably secret) just hope for the best that when we go I can still get a ticket. However, if no one has bought a ticket yet, the 9:45 is still available. Stupid work getting in the way of my ticket buying time and messing me all up :(

SecretMethod70 07-12-2008 10:48 AM

we could buy the 9:45 tickets and try to sneak into the 9:15 :p :|

dlish 07-12-2008 12:33 PM

im so envious...wish i could be there

im still hoping to come to Chicago at some point before year end, probably jet off to Seattle for a few days too.

Keep us update on this! Chicago of course, who cares about Seattle. :p

As for the movie, has anyone bought tickets yet? Maybe we'll just do dinner and then grab a drink and shoot some pool or something.

ratbastid 07-13-2008 04:26 PM

I have not bought my ticket yet. I'm up for whatever. I'm quite sure I can scare up somebody to see the flick with when I get home.

onodrim 07-13-2008 07:24 PM

I bought two tickets for the 9:45 show already.

SecretMethod70 07-13-2008 07:30 PM

we could scalp them outside the theatre :P

ratbastid 07-14-2008 03:25 AM

I said "I'm up for whatever", but the truth is, 9:45 is a little late for me to get started on a movie, given I have a meeting in the morning. If that's the showing we're doing, I'll bow out of that part of it. Y'all go, though! I'll be more than happy to meet for dinner!

shesus 07-14-2008 06:31 AM

We haven't got tickets yet and aren't going to try. The last time we went to see a movie that was sold out, we had to sit in the front row and I got sick and couldn't watch it anyway.

We'll meet for dinner and go from there. The next step is do you want to meet at the restaurant or do you want to meet at your hotel?

I might not be coming straight from my hotel, so we should probably meet at the restaurant.

shesus 07-14-2008 07:39 PM

Alrighty then, we will meet in front of Portillo's at 7:00. It is on the corner so it should be a decent meeting spot.

For those who don't know (I'm assuming only ratbastid), the address is 100 W. Ontario. It is on the corner of Ontario and Clark.
