The Fight Club
I would recomend this movie. Edward Norton and brad Pitt. I thought it was a great movie. Very weird with a totally unexpected ending. What did you think of it?
|
Try the book.
And anything else by Palahniuk. |
I thought it took a little to long to get to the point of the story, but could imagine if they came out with an ending like that today? Especially post Sept 11th? The producers would be crucified.
|
I thought that too when I watched it again recently.
Palahniuk's books are very subversive, there's no way they could've released that film in the current climate. (which is worrying) |
It is the greatest film ever made
|
Awesome movie, the book is far more trippier though. I recommend anything Fincher or Palahnuik.
As for the 9/11 ending, GET OVER IT. |
Great movie that for some very odd reason I avoided.
Coincidently, I actually stumbled across the music that plays when they watch the buildings blow up. That was a pleasant surprise. |
Okay not to be an ass or anything but isn't it just, "Fight Club" not The Fight Club.
I agree though. Great movie and great book. As far as the buildings exploding...I think those who commented mean that the ending probably wouldnt' be made today as opposed to when it was made. I have no problem with it but I really doubt the movies ending would have stayed the way it is. |
This has to be the only movie that I can think of that is actually better than the book. I think the book is great too, but the cinematography of the movie really adds a lot. Though, this conclusion might have something to do with the fact that I read the book after watching the movie.
|
I didn't see it in theaters, and I really regret it.
I had no idea what it was about except for a bunch of guys beating each other up ala Van Damme's Lionheart. Even the first time I watched it as a rental, I hadn't a clue what I was about to experience. Luckily I had avoided spoilers & everything, so I was completely unprepared. Subversive. Even deceptive in how it was marketed. I totally love that about the show. I've read the book since seeing it (seeing it many many times, naturally) and I think the movie is a brilliant adaptation of the written word. Dark, disjointed, and remarkably true to the overall storyline. The book's ending fits for the novel, and the movie's ending fits best for a movie - they are both the best possible realizations of the story for their respective mediums. |
Yes the track at the end lebell is the pixies.
Good use of it at the end |

Awesome flick in so many ways, first DVD I bought :D |
yeah, this is one of those DVDs that you must own. Great movie. Can't wait for the next one from Fincher.
|
Great Flick...One of my favourites...Id reccommend it to anyone.
|
Great movie with two of my favourite actors.
Pitt and Norton complement each other so well in this movie. I reckon the theme of anarchy was one that they brought to life so well. Great book as well, though it took me a few reads to actually figure out that the narrator isn't quite dead. |
Yes this is by far my favorite movie. Brad Pitt and Edward Norton are excellent. If you've seen the movie but haven't read the book I suggest you do so. The book has so much more than is shown in the movie.
|
Great movie... Even got my wife to admit she liked it.
Even better watching it on DVD the second and third time. Look for the little flashes... |
The DVD's great. The comentaries are where the gold is. I own all of Palahniuk's books but I wouldn't recomend Invisible Monsters. It just felt a little flat to me.
|
Great great movie, did a great job of taking a kickass story and making it into a watchable movie. Any of his other books are to great for words, survivor has to be my favorite book of all time. Pick up the books, any of them, you won't be dissapointed.
<P>As for 9/11 the orginal ending for the book none of the bombs went off, and he wasn't taking them out just to be blowing up buildings, Tyler was aiming the parker-morris building to fall on the NY Natural musuem of history ("This is our world, now, our world," Tyler says, "and those ancient people are dead") Watch the movie, read the books, I can't say this enugh. |
anyone know if there is a soundtrack to this movie? i thought some of the music they used was pretty cool.

the song at the end of the movie is the pixies - where is my mind, and its also the last song on the soundtrack which features 15 awesome songs by the dust brothers, the soundtrack is all music from the movie, no vocals or anything, yet its still a great listen, i recommend :)
|
I bought the soundtrack and it is excellent. I highly recommend it. It is some of the best music I have ever heard.
|
The music is performed by the Dust Brothers. Incredible Music, specially Chemical Burn.
|
Fantastic flick! I did not see it in theaters because from the marketing it looked really silly. My son had been trying to convince me to watch for quites some time when this january he put it on while I was in the room messing with a box. 5 minutes in to it I was riveted to the screen. I rarely watch films twice but I watched fight club 5 times over the following week.
Every scene in fight club is a great scene and every one of those scenes fits in to a whole greater then the sum of the parts. I could sit and watch that last seqeunce where buildings are collapsing as the Pixies wail in the background on a continous loop. Not the ending from the book but a good ending anyway. |
I am JoeyB's review of Fight Club.
Great movie, but I must admit that I had to watch it more than once to catch everything. I can't identify with the pent up rage of virtually everyone in the movie, but it was still incredible to watch. I am JoeyB's post. |
Speaking of Palahnuik, I need to read "Lullaby" and "Choke", but I thought that while "Invisible Monsters" and "Survivor" were interesting, those two didn't touch the raw, twisted mischeiveness of "Fight Club". Anyone takes on his recent works?
|
I just found a used copy of the soundtrack....not as good as I hoped but still pretty cool.
|
Awesome movie, even better bookl
|
Edward Norton kicks his own ass like no other!!
|
I only just saw fight club recently after all my freinds told me I should see it.
It was a great movie. The end totally took me by suprise. |
I hadn't really heard of it until I got to college this year. I suppose it was one of those movies that slipped under my radar when it came out, as I wasn't really into movies that much then. So my friend sent me a divx of it. I tried watching it, but kept getting distracted (and the divx froze up and repeated "Thank you Thomas" over and over again... really creepy). So finally I tracked down someone who had it on tape, and watched it with a bunch of friends, most of whom had never seen it, either. We were riveted. So then I decided I wanted a copy. I couldn't find one anywhere... and I didn't have a dvd player at that point, so I was trying to find video. I finally found it at BJs of all places, and have watched it many, many times since then. There are so many small things that you don't notice the first time you watch it. Each time, you notice more things that you hadn't seen before. It's an amazing movie, and I'm going to read the book, just haven't had a chance yet.
|
I fell asleep on the first time I rented it. Gave it a second chance and became a fan. I even read the book.
|
This is definately in my top five favourite films... Palaniuk's books are even better...
Both the book and the film are highly subversive. As for "where is my mind?" the song that plays at the end... I'd have to say it was one of the best surprises in the film for me. I have been a fan of the Pixies for years and that song was like icing on a very tasty cake. If you like that song you should check out everything else by the Pixies (especially Surfer Rosa and Doolittle... kick ass albums) |
this movie is definately one of my favorites, brad pitt is freakin awesome. i think i could just about quote every line form this movie.

Go figure, the library at my school doesn't have any books by Palaniuk. I'm slightly surprised... we even have a class here called "subversive thinking"and it seems like Fight Club would be appropriate. Oh well, I guess I'll have to break down and buy it or something. Damn...;)
|
Great fucking movie. I've got the book and am yet to read it. I began looking at it and could see too much of the movie as I read it so im giving it some time :(
ps- let me know if you know where I can get the "hustler" shirt that Pitt wears about mid movie :D |
Fight Club is awesome! One of my favorites! I was so stoked when I read the book that Not a lot of stuff had really changed. It was maybe one of the only book movies that was actually as good as the book!!!!
Did anyone see the SNL with Jennifer Aniston, and for her monologue she does a Fight club parody with the girls from SNL? "2nd rule of fight club, don't tell Lorne about fight club!" |

AND SHE FALLS OFF THE BED IN THE BACKGROUND!!!! LOLOLOL oh and by the way "the normal guy" never really had a name....I mean he's Tyler Durden. But really he doesn't have a name in the movie. No one ever says it! |
he's listed as Narrator in the movie credits...
How about when Tyler nudges Marla's dresser, causing her dildo to jiggle. It's the subtle humor of it all. |

and yeah it's all subtle humor, I love it! |
sounds like you're pretty excited about that movie.. heh..
I saw it in the theater with my best friend, and we thought we were gonna see some tough guy movie... damn we were blown away. Instantly the coolest movie we had ever seen. Went out and bought the sound track the very next day. A little bit later, it became one of the first DVDs that I ever bought. |
I really liked Fight Club too. The ending was surprising, but the scene that sticks in my memory is the one where he shoots at "the evil twin" and hits the windows of the van. The expression on his face was "priceless."
|
I went and saw it with my mom of all people the night it opened. She was kind of mortified while I was laughing. I thought she needed a dose of my mentality. I read the book and couldn't wait for it to come out. There are a few things I liked about the book better, but everyone did a good job in their parts. It vents allot of frustration over the complicity of the plastic world this is becoming. I think a side point he's making though is taking the same absurdity in revolting in such ways is a pathway just as insane.
|
Is it me or is Fincher going soft? Since Seven and Fight Club the movies have been kinda lame. The Game and Panic Room were silly. Although, his ex. prod. of BMWFilms.com were outstanding.
P.S. Alien 3 has always been my favorite for some reason. |
Fight Club is one of the few films that I recommed people read both the book AND the Film.
I haven't had a chance to read Chuck's other books, but I need to get my ass in gear and do so |

Also, about Fight Club...who the fuck is Jack? Edward Norton is refered to as Jack on the back of the Video/DVD box. Where did that come from? -C.S. Flim |

we even have a class here called "subversive thinking"
am I the only one to see the complete and total irony in having a class in "subversive thinking"? regarding Fight Club, I have seen the movie about 4 times, and while I think its a great film, I hated the ending. I think the reason is that Tyler Durden knows SO much about how everthing in society works, and how to manipulate it to his ends/advantage that I just dont see how he could think that blowing up a building or two is going to erase all the records of all those credit companies. It completely ignores the fact of remote backups. That little bit of logical inconsistency blows the ending for me. Also, it seems, for some reason, a bit stale or cliche. The movie is SO subversive all throughout, and then at the end, goes for a big Hollywood explosion. That bugs me. But other than the very ending, great film that I can watch over and over. Havent read the book yet. Perhaps I should. |
