Boondock Saints

I searched TFP v.4, but nothing.
I remember someone (or three) recommending this movie. I finally bought it. It is great. So many classic bits and quotes.
Anyone remember who recommended this? I need to give them their deserved thanks!
Don't be shy.

Pham 04-20-2003 11:42 AM

It's an ok movie, but very overrated. imho.

richeee 04-20-2003 04:30 PM

So it wasn't Pham!
Who was it?

KillerYoda 04-20-2003 05:07 PM

All I gotta say is the sequel better not suck.

degrawj 04-20-2003 06:18 PM

over rated? wtf? i thought that movie was fucking awesome!! awesome gun fighting scenes, and funny as hell. a great combo.

Unknown Poster 04-21-2003 04:37 AM

That movie is great. I have seen it at least 30-40 times.

maximusveritas 04-21-2003 05:34 AM

definitely gotta agree with Pham. Way overrated. 2nd-rate Tarantino clone with some religious BS thrown in. It tries to be more than a mindless shoot-em-up, but fails miserably. Like many "cult movies", it does not deserve its reputation.

TehOck 04-21-2003 07:26 AM

Overrated? no way. Not in my case anyway. Hell, I hadn't even heard of it until I saw it one night while flicking though movies on cable. Too bad that they haven't released it on DVD out here in Australia.
Definitely one of my favourites.

Ryan 04-21-2003 01:29 PM

BEST MOVIE EVER PLAIN AND SIMPLE!!!!

This is by far my favorite movie of all time, the action scenes mixed with the dark comedy makes this a most own and a cult classic for sure!!!

You are really missing out on a lot though, if you haven't seen teh unrated/nc-17 version. I belive it is only availble in europe and japan(mayeb china). I know for a fact the one that is published by FOX and realesed here in teh states is very watered down and it detracts from the movie a lot. They edit out the Russian hotel scene, the diner scene whree rocco wastes those three guys, and much more. I recommended you guys try and download that version off E-mail or Kazza or whatever. Also I cant wait for the sequel and yes it better not suck.!

Panopticon 04-21-2003 02:04 PM

I enjoyed it, although I didn't feel it was an amazing movie. Slightly overrated, but it is worth watching.

World's King 04-21-2003 03:09 PM

That movie is a cult classic. I will rant about it when ever I get a chance.

RenegadeSoul 04-21-2003 05:43 PM

That movie was awesome

snowy 04-21-2003 06:42 PM

I have the DVD...Highly excellent movie. Certainly makes you feel better about your own spot in life...and teaches you a valuable lesson about the "rule of thumb" ;)

So Ryan, how exactly can I get a dvd of this version? Thanks for intriguing us...

richeee 04-21-2003 08:48 PM

Also~ I am still looking for the TFP member(s) who first recommended this, so they can take credit for it! Anyone???

Maveric 05-09-2003 10:40 AM

back in the day, it was Halx who went apeshit (wildly excited) when he bought the DVD... I remember him talking about the special features also... not sure if that was the TFP 3.0 or the TFP 2.0 version.... it's been awhile.

chodarama 05-09-2003 01:00 PM

I remember recommending it.

THE MAC GOD 05-10-2003 09:26 PM

One of my all-time favorite movies... too bad no one really knows about it... those of you who say it is overrated must not live in the states... Everyone I ask is like "The boondock saints????" ... I originally bought 2 copies for $40 each when that was the only way to get them... have since bought the fox version with a couple deleted scenes... God I hope they eventually release the NC17... ALso, everyone (men and women) I have shown this too and recommended this to has actually really LOVED it...

Halx 05-11-2003 12:16 AM

Maveric, I had the DVD before any of these fanboys ever knew about the movie :) And my version of the DVD doesn't HAVE any features because it's an original print, before this whole craze.

You gotta get the DVD with the special features! It's halarious, especially the deleted scene of the brothers talking long distance on the phone with their mom in Ireland...

Eiresol 05-11-2003 09:48 AM

Overrated? This film is totally underrated.
Nobody knows about it and it's a great film.
The r2 version is basically a vanilla dvd. No special/extra features which is kind of crap but the film makes up for it.

Jadey 05-11-2003 11:43 AM

No shit!? Overrated?!? I think Willem Dafoe is great in that movie. It's always nice to talk about this movie with others on TFP, becuase most of my friends have never even heard of it.

I cna't wait till the second one comes out.

Hedgehog 05-11-2003 08:14 PM

Fantastic movie.

richeee 05-12-2003 08:19 PM

I hereby grant this post to Halx- it must've been Him that originally turned me on to The Boondock Saints!
Thanks, Bro'!

What's the word on "the sequel" ?
Anyone?

Jadey 05-12-2003 08:41 PM

Some updates on the sequel;

http://www.theboondocksaints.com/home.cfm

GSRIDER 05-13-2003 09:14 AM

I thought I had seen this but after going to the webpage realized that I have not.

Speaking of Irish killers. Has anyone seen <a href="http://www.thekrays.co.uk/">the Krays</a> based on a true story about a set of Irish twin brothers. The site goes to the actual Krays page and not the movie.

Its a great movie though. Gonna chalk Boondock Saints on my to see list (just another fanboy)

LeewaySeabarge 05-28-2003 02:57 AM

This movie rocked, hands down

Doos 06-03-2003 12:13 AM

absolutley awsome movie, loads of catchy little phrases to use with your mates.

"is it dead?"

ARRH 06-03-2003 04:50 AM

i remember i used to have one of their quotes as my signature. not saying that that's where you got it from. anyways, i remember a friend of mine told me to download it about 2 years ago. never heard of it before, just gave it a shot. and i loved it. funny, good action, and billy connely! excellent movie!

Bonesaw 06-03-2003 06:15 AM

All this hype and praise for this movie makes me want to see it. Other's I work with have seen it and also say it's a great film. None of the video...er DVD....rentals have it around me or it's always "out". <sigh>

fckfckfckfck 06-04-2003 10:06 AM

Its my favorite movie...

When i worked at best buy as a cashier for a little over 6 months, anyone that brought up a tarintino movie or a guy richie movie, i pulled out a copy of it, and started talking to them about it, about 1/4 or so would buy it, one guy liked it so much, he came back the next day and raved up and down about it. All in all, ive yet to find anyone that hasnt like it. IF you havnt seen it GO GET IT. :)

rockzilla 06-04-2003 02:18 PM

Yeah, I loved it, a lot better than any of the Tarantino schlock. Who played the bartender with tourette's syndrome? I can't remember where else I've seen him.

Gortexfogg 06-04-2003 07:21 PM

Boondock Saints rocked. Anyone who doens't think so needs their eyes checked. My friend was telling me about so we rented it. He kept saying there was one scene with a cat that I wouldn't forget. After I saw it, I definately didn't forget it! Awesome flic hands down.

Knolan Fairdale 06-04-2003 08:04 PM

I love that movie. Period. I was at my friend's house doing homework on St. Patty's Day, and I suggested watching that movie, a perfect movie for the holiday. Ended up watching half of it before I had to walk home at like 2 am, tipsy from some green beer.

Sure, the movie's got its share of plotholes, some of which are quite blatant, but so what? It's a great movie, and so full of quotable lines. Rocco's joke as Ron Jeremy stands by, the whole cat thing and talking to the ladies in the wake of it, how the brothers have fun with Rocco when he shows up late, the rule of thumb, the porno club, the encounter on the street, and of course, one of the best monologues I've heard in a long time and one that I can't stop uttering, the courtroom speech. I'd put that speech right up with Atticus Finch's and the one from A Few Good Men as far as courtroom speeches go.

The way the movie was directed, of showing the aftermath of various incidents and the police & Agent Smeckers' theories of what happened, and then showing what actually happened....that nonlinear format is a very convincing and well-conceived way of telling the story. I don't think it would've worked as well if the story had been straightforward and liner, like Die Hard or something. The Boondock Saints is the kind of movie you need to see at least twice to fully grasp and appreciate, kinda like The Usual Suspects. I love it, and that kickass soundtrack....almost makes me feel like riverdancing...

MSD 06-06-2003 07:08 PM

Poor cat ...

2 lesbians. One lesbian to actually screw in the lightbulb, then one wee little lesbian to SUCK MY COCK!

Jack Ruby 06-07-2003 06:42 AM

Loved it first time I saw it. Pretty cool in a juvenile sort of way, good job by Willem Dafoe, but no 'cult classic' IMO.

Porkchop 06-07-2003 11:30 AM

Will have to give this movie a try . Have not seen it and only 2 mates sing its praises, but sing praise they do.

madsenj37 06-08-2003 02:58 AM

This movie is excellent. Its too bad more people dont know about it. I myself have only known about it for about 2 years.

emopwr 06-25-2003 10:44 PM

The Boondock Saints

Ok, let's all discuss how awesome this movie is!
FUCK FUCK HOW THE FUCK DID YOU 2 FUCKS FUCKING WHAT THE FUCK!

Mr_Q 06-25-2003 10:49 PM

What if it was one guy with 6 guns...?

This is a great movie - but half the world hasn't heard of it. Heck, I bought my copy for $10 - that's regular price! It must not be selling well if retailers are marketing it as a discount DVD. or maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.

I need to go watch the movie again now...

Latch 06-26-2003 06:13 PM

Second one comes out next year somtime, supposedly...

emopwr 06-26-2003 06:13 PM

It's got quite a cult following. I am suprised by the lack of replies for this movie. oh wells. no <3 for tbs.

oh and another great line from that movie. the bartender with terrets or whatever

'why dont you make like a tree, AND GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE!'

Nikilidstrom 06-26-2003 07:02 PM

I finally got to see this movie 2 days ago, and it is badass. I was a little disappointed in equilibrium, another movie that is really hyped on this board, but there was no let down from this movie, other than it ended too soon. I mean, the movie had Ron Jeremy in it for Christ sakes! how freakin cool is that! Willam Dafoe is freaking hilarious, although I really didnt need to see him in drag. Needless to say, my copy of the dvd is on its way as we speak. The sequel is in post production already, so it might make it out before next year. However, the original was never realeased in the theatres here, so I'm probably screwed on the second one too. Anyone know if the original NC-17 version is available anywhere?

Mr_Q 06-27-2003 11:29 AM

"We're like 7-11. We might not always be doing business, but we're always open."

diergray 06-27-2003 08:41 PM

Dammit another DVD I have to buy!

rat 06-28-2003 10:57 AM

great movie. strong message, strong acting on everyone's part. nothing beats vigilante justice. nothing.

THE MAC GOD 06-30-2003 06:54 AM

I;ve been a fan since my now GF introduced me to it 3+ years ago... I wanted it so bad on DVD that I bought it off ebay for $40 (which wasn't unheard of back then since they werent selling it in the states-although you could maybe find a couple tapes)... So I have that version (which I bought twice) and the new one with the commentary (still waiting for when they will hopefully release the NC-17 version) for 10$ at target (doh!). ANYWAY, IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT, BUY IT... DONT RENT IT... BUY IT... it is that good. And I can't WAIT for the sequel.

THE MAC GOD 06-30-2003 06:55 AM

oh and it is

Fuckin WHAT the Fuckin-FUCK, who the Fuck? Fuck this FUCKIN, how did you two fuckin FUCKS, FUCK?!?!?

emopwr 06-30-2003 09:47 PM

lol i just love the dialog in the movie. i dunno if its because of the accents or what, but everything just comes off completely realistic.

Jadey 06-30-2003 10:11 PM

I think Willem Dafoe is great in that movie. "I'll have an Onion Bagel with cream cheese."

I got my copy for $9.99 at Best Buy.

EvilPoda 07-03-2003 11:08 PM

Greatest. Movie. Evar.

That's about all it comes down too.

"funny funny funny funny!!!" was great scene too imo

blindside 07-04-2003 09:47 AM

I think its one of the most under rated movies ever. I never heard of it, but always saw it at Best Buy for $10. Heard some good reviews online, went and picked it up. LOVED IT. The scene with Rocco and his g/f and her friend was hilarious :o

Stare At The Sun 07-04-2003 11:41 AM

Tips For Starting A Thread In Tilted Entertainment

This is the place where we discuss movies, TV, books, and the all the arts except music which has a forum of its own.
If you want to start a new thread the first step is to do a quick search of the forum to make sure there are not threads about the same subject.
Once you have done that, give the thread a clear title that will let people know what you want to discuss.

http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...=&threadid=972

just a note... GREAT MOVIE- Great Minds Think alike...

richeee 07-06-2003 06:39 PM

for more Boondock Saints---never can get enough!!

emopwr 07-07-2003 09:27 AM

hehe whoops, musta missed that thread. but a movie like boondock saints needs at least 2 or three different threads ;)

ok and heres a question i had about the movie: the porno theater scene, WHO are the men in the right/left booths? It seems that conor knows who they are, but the movie never really shows who they are. are we just to assume they are just known bad guys?

nulltype 07-07-2003 10:52 AM

It's not some sort of deep movie containing philosophical revelations, but I did consider it to be a damn good movie. I imagine that any sequel to the movie will suck and I wish they'd just make a different movie instead of making a sequel.

livewirerc 07-07-2003 12:02 PM

The movie doesn't ever explain who they are, so I'm assuming that since Connor "knows everybody" they're just some other scumbags that need to be taken out. I just got the DVD and haven't watched it yet, maybe it'll have some commentary or something that sheds more light on it. :)

Meg 07-09-2003 11:09 AM

I thought it was amazing that it was Rocco's first movie and didn't have any previous training to be an actor. I especially enjoyed the Hotel scene where they poke-fun of a typical Hollywood shooting scene.

GakFace 07-09-2003 05:14 PM

Now that I have a Job, its on my List of DVD's to buy. I love the movie, It kick "Fuckin" Ass

(Fuck is quoted because of its fun-loving use in the movie :D)

Maveric 07-14-2003 03:43 AM

definitely make sure to check out the deleted scenes. my favorite is where their mother calls from ireland :)

anyways, yes there's supposed to be a sequel, and no it isn't even in pre-production yet...

wanna have some fun?

invite a few of your friends over and preferrable some hot babes if possible. hell, fuck it, forget your friends and just invite the babes :D .

allow me to introduce you to the BDS drinking game, you will need -
 • a few bottles of your favorite hard liquor and some shot glasses
 • several small pieces of paper and a pencil
 • a hat or bowl

directions -

Write the name of all the main characters on separate pieces of paper and fold them up and place in a hat or bowl. Everyone chooses a character.
Write on separate pieces of paper - common phrases or curse words like fuck, shit, damn, funny, etc/ and situations like a gunshot, when blood is spilled, someone is punched, etc.. fold them up and place in a hat or bowl. Everyone chooses again.
Start the movie, everytime a person's chosen character says or does what is written on their piece of paper, they have to do a shot.
Maveric 07-14-2003 04:08 AM

this movie has so much awesome dialogue in it! for example -
Quote:

Shut your FAT ASS, Rayvie! I can't walk to the store to get a pack of smokes without bumping into 9 guys you've FUCKED!

pmb145 07-18-2003 06:55 AM

I thought the movie was great. I can't believe I never heard of it until about a month ago.

neddy65 07-18-2003 03:57 PM

I worked in a video store and the screener copy arrived with Dogma. Aftrer watching Dogma I threw Boondock Saints in for the hell of it...... I was blown away!!! I recomended it to everyone and I only had 1 person come back to say she didn't like it. The way the director told the story( end, theory, and event) was like a slap in the face after viewing the seemingly endless follow-the-formula movies out there. I bought it asap and loan it out under penalty of death, but only to the very deserving.

darkshade 07-18-2003 08:30 PM

damn that movie was good

tooka 07-27-2003 05:55 PM

i thought it was silly and not very subtley homo erotic
sort of like the brotherhood

Hrothgar 07-27-2003 08:24 PM

The director tried to emulate Tarantino with moderate success. The acting, on the other hand, was terrible i.e., Rocco and Pappa Joe. Anytime Pappa Joe was in a scene I had to wonder if he paid someone to be in the movie. I wanted to like this flick but I've seen better acting in porno. A sequel is not necessary.

Stare At The Sun 07-27-2003 09:13 PM

^ hey, how about you die. :D

3zos 07-28-2003 10:21 AM

ok a question:
i have the american release dvd, has the russian hotel and cafe scenes..
now people are talking about an nc17 disc. in a rudimentary search on ebay, i find this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=32046

anyone have any idea as to whether or not this is an uncut version, at least in how it relates to the american dvd release?

Lasereth 08-03-2003 08:24 PM

No one realizes this, but the Boondock Saints DVD is edited to hell. I downloaded it using my select P2P program, and after seeing it multiple times, I decided I wanted to buy the DVD. Well, I bought it, and it's edited. Yep, censored. The gun scenes (the particularly gory ones) are all shorter, with the blood pouring out of people scenes entirely gone. It's pathetic.

I'd rather the Boondock producer make an un-edited DVD before a sequel to this amazing movie. I want a new DVD with more features (even though the DVD I bought had funny as hell extras) and above all NO CENSORSHIP. I can't believe production companies are allowed to do crap like that. Some movies have gory fight scenes simply to entertain, but a movie like Boondock Saints makes the gunfight scenes graceful in an artistic way.

-Lasereth

jinobli 08-03-2003 09:13 PM

this movie was fuckin amazing

Stare At The Sun 08-03-2003 09:30 PM

<-----Sure is. I really need to get my hand on an unedited version...

pkeigs 08-03-2003 09:35 PM

I love this movie with all my heart hehe... I Would like to see the unedited version but its probably pretty hard to find. The characters are awesome and the fight scenes just kick ass.

A listing for Boondock Saints at 1:00 A.M. Central Standard Time. on the USA network.
So if you see this message, run, don't walk, to your t.v., if you're a true fan. ;)

On USA? THAT'll be good. It'll be missing half the dialogue, including the greatest line in movie history.

stonecurran 10-02-2003 12:02 AM

its a bloody awsome movie. i would love to by it on dvd but i can never find it. anyone got an idea?

Flatline 06-26-2006 06:21 AM

re: who's the bartender?

I'm not sure if this forum is still active, but I created an account just to post this. Lots of people wonder who the bartender is, and I figured it out. Do any of you remeber a show back inthe mid 80's called fraggle rock? Well the old man that lived upstairs plays the bartender. There you go, mystery solved. Oh and for the record, I was one of the first to see the movie... it wasn't actually pulled from EVERY theatre, it showed here when it released, there were about 6 people in the theatre. Since that day I've searched for the dvd, and since bought the original release, the special edition, and the unrated edition. You know that I'll be buying the NC-17 version if it comes out, or if I can even track it down. You can get a glimpse of what the NC-17 version would look like in the special features. The coffee shop scene where Rocko kills three people is longer, and you see the muzzle flash as well as blood spraying the walls and spurting out of them. I can't wait to see the hotel scene unedited, apparently it's something like four minutes longer. All in all, a great movie, and the sequal is supposed to pick up right after the courtroom scene, let's just hope that it can live up to the first one.

ElwoodBlues 06-27-2006 10:11 AM

Old thread, but I figured I'd throw in my two cents.

I love the story of the movie. Very cool idea. Vigilante justice, yeah!

That said. Someone was asleep during the entirity of film school. And I think it was this director. So many bad shots, bad cuts, overall just a poorly made film, which at times can overshadow the great story. For me at least.

On a side note, the sequel got scrapped. Sorry to disappoint all of you's who were excited for it. The info was up on IMDB for a while, but it was removed about 6 months ago.

Gatorade Frost 06-27-2006 11:12 AM

Eh, I thought the movie was very overrated. Everyone talks about how great it is, but after I saw it I thought it was pretty lousy. The acting was poor, the movie's plot was pretty poor - It was a decent idea, but how it was done was unlikely enough that I thought it was a horrible movie.

Halx 06-27-2006 11:43 AM

Funny thing.. this thread popping up. Watched it again for the billionth time. I remember downloading it on it's 0-day release way back when. I fail to see where people nitpick about this film. I for one thought that most of the scenes are awesome.

looks like the sequel "All Saint's Day" won't be coming anytime soon...

Guess we'll just have to settle for the East Coast Saints.

Good movie, not *great*. Fun, though.

Three years later and IMDB lists Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day as being slated for a 2009 release as of December 2008. Currently listed as in "Post Production". Everyone is back except WIllem Dafoe. Is anyone interested in this? The lack of Willem Dafoe almost ruins it for me...

depends how they removed him. As long as the movie keeps up with the old one, it should be great.

It's one of my favorite movies. I wonder how it would have done if it was mass-released in movie theaters?

This is one of my favorite movies to turn my brain off and testosterone out to.
