The modern age of advertising
If this is in the wrong forum, I apologize in advance.
So, to my fellow TV watchers, what is the bane of TV today? Commercials of course? There are some that are charming or down right funny, but most are obnoxious. Commercials seem to be increasingly used as an intermission time to hit the restroom, change laundry or start dinner. AOL/TimeWarner recently announce "In2TV", an internet TV programming option for "classic TV". Eh, not really my bag I suppose. I like to be able to create libraries of things I enjoy watching. And you can't copy this stuff boys and girls. One thing that DID interest me, however, is the advertising scheme. One minute of adverts per twenty minutes of TV. Hmmmm... So I got to thinking... it'd be interesting for some cable station to offer EXPENSIVE, two minute slots to allow that company to be the only commercial in a 30-minute period of time. Think about it. The advertising benefit is you were the ONLY commercial. People would be slightly more likely to sit through a single, 2-minute commerical than 6 30-second ones. Also, being the only commercial would make it MORE MEMORABLE. *shrug* Is it just me or does this seem like a good plan? |
