The Amazing Race: Family Edition

So it started last night, and I was thinking I wouldn't like it due to the constraints of 4 people and some being very young. I was delighted to be wrong. The smallest girl seems pretty tough, and should be a good competitor. And the younger boys look like they will get pretty competitive with each other, so it should be interesting. Anyone else watching? I'm hoping for some more interesting challenges this season, last season was pretty rough.

Spoiler: Does anyone know if they will be leaving the country? A friend heard a rumor that it would be all within the US. Which could either make for an interesting show, or really boring depending on where they are going.

Derwood 09-28-2005 10:41 AM

Spoiler: I don't know either way, but I think having a good chunk in America would be fun, considering they usually "travel the world" without going to any of the nooks and crannies of the US. I also liked that they already had 2 challenges that brought out the differences in the different team alignments. The Black family ultimately lost because they weren't strong enough to paddle the boat (with two little kids), while the Linsz(?) family took advantage of the buggy challenge with two light-weights to pull around.

The sooner that bitching New Jersey family loses the better

silent_jay 09-28-2005 11:06 AM

I watched it as well, I wasn't going to because I figured a family version would suck, but I was quite surprised, it was a really good episode, and I reckon I'll be watching the rest of the season.

dirtyrascal7 09-28-2005 03:29 PM

The bad part about this season is that usually there's only a couple of two-person teams that are annoying or one or two individuals... but now there are annoying four-person teams, which multiplies the annoyance and drama to a degree that is nearly unbearable to watch at times, IMO.

Couldn't agree more. I was hoping they'd get out yesterday. But looks like it didn't happen.

I think that the difference between winning and losing this year, will be the kids' ability to do any strength based tasks.

It seems that this year, I don't really have a team i'm rooting for. At least not yet.

barenakedladies 09-28-2005 03:40 PM

am i the only person that found it funny every time the african american family showed up on the screen, it said "black family" at the bottom.

im sure they got some letters from some idiots that didnt realize it was their last name.

and phil.. what a dick.

BLACK FAMILY... YOU'RE THE LAST TO ARRIVE...

i laughed everytime.

Siege 09-28-2005 06:55 PM

Yeah, I was kind of curious when I saw "Black Family". Then my sister told me that that was actually their last name.

Catdaddy33 09-29-2005 04:05 AM

I read somewhere (maybe cbs.com), they are only traveling 12,000-15,000 miles (down from 72,000 in the last couple of races) and toned down the challenges for the families. I doubt they will travel to any 3rd world countries..

What, no 10 year olds travelling 18 hours in box cars packed with Indian men?

I agree with the poster who said that there are a lot of annoying teams. The only ones my wife and I were really rooting for were the "perfect family" (the marathon runners and their uber-kids), the "siblings" (sister and 3 brothers) and the "dad and 3 daughters". The cackling "pink sisters", the Jersey family and the two Louisiana families need to go away right now.

You're right. Carmel, NY. I guess some team kept calling them the Jersey Family...

Catdaddy33 09-29-2005 10:21 AM

Time will tell about "Family Edition", the first couple of episodes on these shows are always confusing to me. What I don't think I'm gonna like is with 4 people, it seems like they are always talking over each other so I can't hear whose saying what...

n0nsensical 09-30-2005 04:27 AM

It's actually interesting to see more of the U.S. for once. I'm curious what people from other countries who watch the show will think. That whole Black family thing was just hilarious; I'm kind of disappointed they were already eliminated because there would have been a guaranteed few funny moments per show. And guess what, a gambling website has stopped betting because of excessive bets on a certain team. How can they take bets in the first place when it's obvious a bunch of people out there will know who won? This time I don't want to know who it is.

Lucifer 09-30-2005 05:19 AM

I'm pulling for the Guy and his sons-in-law family. I really hope they hit at least 1 3rd world country, maybe in central america. I was looking forward to seeing how the kids did when they arrive at the train station at 3 am and have to sleep on the street.

Locke7 09-30-2005 08:35 AM

I just wonder how the whole long distance travel thing is going to work. They got big nice SUV's and they had to go to the sporting goods store and get the tents and stuff. So now the topper of the SUV is full of gear. What are they going to say? Ok, now bring all that crap on the airplane? Although Phil did say that airfare was payed for along with gas... So who knows.

Lucifer 10-01-2005 03:53 PM

I got the impression that the tents and stuff was only for the one night

Oh man, tonight's show was vaguely funny, yet sad and pathetic. You'd think maybe ONE team member out of four would know ANYTHING about Washington including such a basic fact as the existence of a reflecting pool in front of BOTH the Capitol and Memorial. Not only that, but the clue clearly said it was the pool at the US Capitol; it's not like the producers were trying to trick them or something like in one past season when there were two museums with the same name in Paris. Hey, were those fences I saw entirely enclosing the reflecting pools now? Way to uglify the place. I hope they're for some legitimate reason other than stoppin' the terr'ists. I also hope the teams will get out to California at least if they're going to be spending all this time in the US.

Catdaddy33 10-05-2005 04:14 AM

After last night I'm really not liking this round of AR. Its almost like the "Amazing Race's Family Vacation" without Chevy Chase, I can see a clue at the Grand Canyon that will send them to Wally World...

I liked seeing the exotic locations of places that I will probably never visit, so hopefully they will hop them off somewhere, but so far in the 3 hours the show has been on they went from NYC to Virginia, which is I guess 2-3 days real time.

If they could do the family thing with 21+ folks (like the so called Desperate Housewives and the Father and his 3 sons-in-law) it would make it much easier to watch. Seeing teenagers talk about how stupid their parents are really bugs me, hell I can get that at home...

Myself personally, who has never been to Washington and is not an American only knew about a reflecting pool, I did not know there was two.

However, I am the type of person that I definately would have asked people. And I think I would have caught the 'US Capital' part of the clue.

Unfortunately, yes. There are some breaks, but not many. We were just there in June and they where there then.

So far this edition has been interesting becuase it has been taking place in areas I have been recently (or where I live). It's fun to shout at the TV - "no, turn left you moron!"

I go back and forth on this season if I like the format of the teams. I get frustrated that half of the teams have one person who just can't hack it. Didn't someone say to them that a little bit of exercise would have been an key part of preparation? Of course, the teams are more real to life than in other seasons.

And will someone slap everyone from the "New Jersey" team. I thought the sons were asses, and now I know who it came from.

Well, these teams are all Americans. I don't think it's too high of an expectation for 25% of Americans to be somewhat familiar with Washington. =P

Siege 10-05-2005 07:26 AM

Haha, score! The Paolo (sp?) family is still kicking around! I love watching them bitch at each other.

My theory is that they're hustling everyone! They're going to surprise EVERYONE by winning! :D

Not likely

Locke7 10-05-2005 11:03 AM

Yeah, I really wanted to give this format a chance, but after 3 episodes, I think it is just kind of blah.

I hope they get out of that area and move on some. Also, I think some of these teams are just lacking when it comes to common sense. The clues are very obvious, and you're working with maps of the country you live in. Some of these people should just stop and figure it out before driving without a clue...

Yeah, I'm ambivalent about the season. Some of the family dynamics are interesting, but many of the teams are incompetent. I don't think contestants will be tested as hard as they have been tested in past seasons.

I have a feeling that they are going to be the "Flo" of this season. Piss and moan the entire time, come in nearly last place every time, and then eek out and win by default. :(

Heck, I didn't know that there were 2 reflective pools, and I definitely think the one in front of the monument is more well known (ala Forest Gump, etc). And I think the producers knew exactly what they were doing, and were purposely trying to confuse teams by the wording of the clue. It said the reflective pool "at the capitol", which the entire city is "the capitol". I did think it was funny that the one team asked a guy that was British, and he knew that there were two pools.

Also did anybody else think it was a bad idea to have them sneaking around swapping briefcases in front of the capitol building? I kept expecting some secret service guys to come out and tackle them or shoot them. :D (I know, I know I'm sure they cleared it with everybody first, I just thought it was kind of bizarre what with the different security incidents that have occurred there in the not too distant past.)

fresnelly 10-06-2005 06:05 AM

Having recently been on a wonderful road trip through Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa and Michigan, I can handle an all U.S. Amazing race. I just hope they make an effort to get to all corners. And so far it's been too easy. There hasn't even been one plane or train trip yet!

<i>"OMG! How do we get to Virginia?!?" "Hey this map says to take the interstate. Phew!"</I> Duh.

I'm also sensing an American history theme, what with the crossing of the Delaware and the Civil war re-enactment. I'm much more interested in contemporary US culture. Once they start challenging the families, it will be more entertaining.

But most of all, I hope, I hope, I hope we get to see the Paolo family navigating themselves around Italy. That would be fascinating on so many levels.

highthief 10-10-2005 01:25 PM

I get the feeling this version might prove popular with US ratings, but will fair poorly internationally (The AR has been a big hit around the world).

Personally, I can't get into it. I like watching people struggle with foreign languages and customs and dealing with cities not laid out in a grid fashion - until they head to Africa or Asia or Russia or something, I've got no interest.

Locke7 10-12-2005 10:24 AM

Wow, didn't like how the race went last night. Pick a number, if you are last out of the trailing 4, you don't have a chance at catching up. There was absolutely no competition there. Ride a bus for 8 hours, get clue, run to wall and pick number. Maybe you could get lost, but it didn't even seem like that was an issue. So the last team to do the centrifuge was screwed. Whatever.

And what's up with the preview for next week. Take yourself and your 3 kids to a race track. Oh and sorry your husband/father died at a race track a few years ago. So much for compassion on the side of the producers.

Yeah, I was a bit disappointed by this episode. The centrifuge was another easy challenge and it looks like all the destinations are just going to be mainstream tourist attractions and retail stores.

Here's my prediction for a future episode:

"In this challenge, teams must navigate their way through the Mall of America and find The Gap. There they must fold 150lbs of sweaters to receive their next clue!"

Well, I'm sure they planned the destinations of the entire season before they actually picked the teams. Unless you're talking soley about the previews.

Derwood 10-12-2005 03:56 PM

All I have to say is...

FREE GAS FOR LIFE? ARE YOU SHITTING ME? Screw the million bucks, I want THAT prize!

Catdaddy33 10-13-2005 03:47 AM

At least they actually got on a plane in this episode, now they need to leave the country for a while...

I was disappointed to that the last team was eliminated, I figured it was going to be non-elimination (the producers said that they will have many more in Family, yet to see that). Since they all came in the same order they left the centrifuge. Not to mention they had that classic cut where they show the last 3 teams appearing "lost" trying to get to the mat, only to have them arrive in the order that they left.

I agree that it's cruel to have a family that lost their father at a racetrack, compete at a racetrack. Hopefully, they were made aware of it before hand.

fresnelly 10-18-2005 07:02 PM

Well, another pretty dull episode; just more driving around on interstates followed by simple tasks. At least next week's promo promised that they will leave the country. I suspect they will go somewhere safe like the Bahamas, Hawaii or England and it won't be until the end of the episode.

I always like it when they come to Canada, but I hope they send them somewhere besides a ski resort like they have in the past.

Catdaddy33 10-19-2005 03:26 AM

I admit its starting to grow on me, they said initially that there would be more non-elimination rounds, so they are narrowing the field enough to make it intersting in the last few episodes. Some of the behavior of the families really irritates me, some of the cold comments made at Tallidega about the Weavers (who lost their Dad at a racetrack), made me want to smack the shit out of them.

Fair enough. The strength of this edition is definately the personalities on display. Thinning the herd to 3 or 4 teams and then running a string of non elimination rounds would help build up some tension.

Derwood 10-19-2005 07:26 AM

I hate non-elimination rounds. If anything, they should have one early on. It's no mystery when there are 3 teams left and it's not the last episode.

I'm actually sorta upset that they are leaving the country next episode. I would have liked to see them continue on through Texas/New Mexico/Arizona. Maybe they'll be back.

Those kinds of comments make the show more interesting. Of course, it would be nice for the obnoxious teams to lose early, but without them, the show would be outrageously dull- especially this season.

Locke7 10-20-2005 12:34 PM

This season is dull. Instead of choosing to drive a race car, they use 4 person bikes. It's these types of decisions on the producers part that really bugs me.

I'm glad they're flying somewhere though, although probably not too exotic, it will be nice to hear something other than "now drive 250 miles to the middle of nowhere." I can't wait to see that prick Paolo kid get scared before bungee jumping. Now that is more like old school Amazing Race.

Lucifer 10-20-2005 04:19 PM

For old school Amazing Race, we need that Paolo family to have a full-on family feud style melt-down bitch-slapping session in the middle of some country market in Uzbekistan.

n0nsensical 10-20-2005 11:32 PM

A giant office chair, a trailer park, and a gas station? May I be the first to ask, WTF? I was trying to give this season a chance and was almost enjoying it, but c'mon...

I don't actually like any of the teams either, particularly the Weavers who I hope are eliminated soon because it's just painful to watch and listen to them.

PS Drop it like it's hot, DJ Paolo *wikka*wikka*wikka*

I agree... this season couldn't be more lame. I haven't ever watched it during its scheduled time because "My Name is Earl" and "The Office" are on at the same time, but now I think I'm not even going to record it anymore... it takes up precious DVR space that could be used for reruns of Family Guy. :)

n0nsensical 11-02-2005 12:05 AM

Well, from the low point of episodes 3 and 4, this season has become a lot better. Unfortunately I've been spoiled yet again by reading about the betting. (I really should have learned a long time ago not to read any websites related to the amazing race while there are seasons I haven't seen.) Tonight was nice with the Weavers getting yielded (I feel vindicated that obviously it's not just me who can't stand them as all the other teams seem to have the same opinion), but somehow they still manage not to be eliminated, and it was so close too. Curse the Gaghans' red bean.

Daval 11-02-2005 05:28 AM

It was a great episode for sure. I was so hoping the Gaghans would not get eliminated.

Thankfully i've managed to keep away from the spoilers this season so I have no idea who will win.

I kinda hope its the three hot sisters though (not the desperate housewives!)

Lucifer 11-02-2005 06:19 AM

I'm pulling for the Linz siblings, but that damn Paolo family has gotten their act together. I think the Linz siblings and Wally's girls want to get together at some rest stop!

fresnelly 11-02-2005 06:26 AM

Agreed that the show has returned to form. Now I wonder if they're going to just stick to North and Central America.

I was sad to see the Gaghan family go, though I suppose they would've been eliminated eventually. Even though it was the mom who blew it at the coffee plantation, the two kids are just too small, despite their big hearts.

I'll say again that seeing the Paolo family navigate through Italy would make for sublime television.

Derwood 11-02-2005 07:12 AM

Notice that Phil doesn't say "this is the 5th pit stop in a race around the world" He says "...in the Amazing Race."

Sadly, the Paolo's are growing on me now that they are being nice. The Weavers and Godlewskis have got to go!

silent_jay 11-02-2005 08:55 AM

Good to see I'm not the only one who doesn't like the Weavers, they try and make it look like they are the nice team on the race yet they are telling boat drivers to drive slow and making fun of someone for having fake boobs, nice to see the got yielded. I thought the mom was going to have a nervous breakdown when she got the van stuck.

The Paolo's are growing on me as well, they got their shit together and are finally being a team.

Derwood 11-02-2005 10:22 AM

Well, the one Weaver kid pretty much summed up why no one likes them. She said "We were raised not to trust other people, just God and our family." Well that probably means they aren't terribly social with the other teams. We never get to see what happens during their 12 hours of rest/social time. They might totally isolate themselves from the other teams.

That mom looks ragged too. Yikes.

That is true, I forgot all about when she said that. Too bad they wouldn't show some of the rest/social time, I'd like to see if they interact wit hthe other teams or if they go off on their own.

I just wish they could cut out some of the parts where they pray to find the clue or whatever they are looking for, it gets old really quickly listening to them praying all the time.

Yeah the mom does look terrible, she should have brought some make up or something.

And especially don't trust the "retards". It is always a breath of fresh air to hear someone invoke a religous high ground at the same time they are spewing derogatory remarks about others. Whatever works for you, I guess. (And it was a near breakdown - she did break down, again.)

The kids were starting to grow on me. Sure they wouldn't have won, but there was less whining from them than from pretty much all of the rest of the teams.

And the Paolo's have made that subtle switch from most annoying group to a "normal" family with two teenagers. They were part of the best moment of the show last night when the youngest tried to get directions from the guy at the bar. The wink at the end said it all - "I do nothing but sit at the bar all day, so why shouldn't I have some fun with the TV cameras."

Catdaddy33 11-03-2005 04:13 AM

I'm starting to pull for the Paolo's too, I liked the Weaver's in the beginning, but they get more and more annoying each episode, the Godlewski sisters REALLY annoy me, I cringe each time one of them speaks...You Drive!!!

Lucifer 11-03-2005 04:26 AM

I can deal with them speaking, its when they all start to shriek and jump up and down. Hit the Mute button on the remote!

I've learned to stop rooting for the teams that are "nicest" or appear "most deserving to win". I root for the teams that make the best television. The Gaghan family did not make good tv. (Except in losing: the daughter crying pulled at your heartstrings).

The Paolo family makes good tv and I like them.
Keep the Weavers around. They're fun to watch.

dman2 11-05-2005 09:18 AM

The Paolo's look like they need a good dose of Dr Phil. Why can't they get along? They are so unhappy until they win. Then they are hugging and kissing. When they lose, oh boy!! They do make for good television however. The challenges are pretty good this season.

Lucifer 11-06-2005 06:24 AM

the challenges have been ok, but I really like when everybody has to camp out on the street waiting for the bus station to open. This season needs a serious meat-eating episode like last season!

Catdaddy33 11-09-2005 04:23 AM

4 families left that I can't stand, yet I'm still going to watch.....dammit....

Daval 11-09-2005 05:22 AM

Can't stand any of them?

I find the Desperate Housewives a tad annoying but they are kicking ass. The one sister in a bikini wasnt so bad either.

I have no problem at all with the Bransens and the Linz's they are great teams.

The only team I dislike is the Weavers. They overdramatize everything and are mean and petty to the other teams and cannot figure out and cry to phil why everyone dislikes them.

n0nsensical 11-09-2005 05:45 AM

Umm, shit. I just found out that was a two hour episode. But I only watched one hour. I turned it off right after Phil said, "stay tuned for our next episode, next." Somehow it didn't register that it really was NEXT. Now I have to download it, which wouldn't be a problem except for the fact that I have a ridiculous 5 GB per week cap and I was also trying to download season 6, which will have taken me three weeks now.

Heh, I agree. This season is definitely lacking for eyecandy. Couldn't they have put in a family of models or something? (Nicole and Kendra...drool...) The best we had until then was the blurred out Bransen ass. ;)

As usual, Daval and I are on the same page. I dislike the Weavers.

-Wearing hot pants while complaining about others possibly not wearing a bra.
-Receiving comfort from another team, then slaggin on them not two minutes later.
-Constant use of the word "retard" (a personal pet peeve)
-Chucking crap at another team out of a moving car, then complaining that no one likes them.
-Making fun of Mr. Paolo's profession (What happens to your garbage girls? Does Jesus collect it for you?)

And that's just off the top of my head. There's plenty of reasons to not like the Weavers. You don't even have to look real hard.

Sorry about the rant, but the blond girl Weavers little hissy on the mat last night about nobody liking them actually blew out the logic centers in my brain. I'm finding it hard to cope.

If I had to pick a family to win, it would be the Brandons. I like the Dad, the girls gripe about him to much, I mean they knew he was older when they started. The Desperate Housewives and Linz's just annoy me, no idea why, they just do. I liked the Weavers early on, but every week I dislike them more, the girls really need to learn to dress to their body shape, someone mentioned it hotpants and chubby thighs do not go well together.

Hopefully CBS will kill the whole family thing, oh and dammit why did they come back to the US?

Derwood 11-09-2005 07:10 AM

I'm rooting hard for the Linz family. I always like the teams that have fun and don't turn a gameshow into life or death.

And all I have to say about the Weavers this week is: Chubby teenagers who wear hotpants and still say "Mommy". Nuff said

mrklixx 11-09-2005 08:01 AM

Are you guys crazy? The Weavers deserve props for making it this far while carrying those huge crosses. Not the ones that they may or may not be wearing around their necks, but the ones that they martyr themselves on every time some one else is "mean" to them.

There have been "religious" teams on AR before, but none of them were as hypocritical and self righteous as the Weavers.

"People don't like us because we're different". No, people don't like you because you're assholes.

I wish the Paolo kid would have had the stones to unleash some of the fury used on his mother, and told the Weavers the truth when they were harassing him.

Lucifer 11-09-2005 09:36 AM

I agree with that, he should have told them off. I couldn't believe that the Weaver bitches dissed the Godlewski sisters at the race track after they were so nice to commiserate with them. They both piss me off, but the Weavers just have to go. Another race track episode may just finish them off.

n0nsensical 11-10-2005 03:30 AM

Ok, I watched the rest of the episode. That last one was the worst greeter ever, it's like, umm, yeah the local culture of Page, Arizona is represented by some kid in a T-shirt. Poor Weavers, nobody likes us. I could hear the world's tiniest violin playing in the background as they got some life advice from Dr. Phil. Paolos: "I'll take your frickin' head off!" "This is a big river I can drown you here and no one would find your body!" (I sure love my :lol:s)

One of the best lines this season.

The Weaver's are probably already experiencing internet backlash only reserved for reality show two-faces. At some point, they will be challenged in an interview and need to defend themselves. Of course, the good Lord will see them through it.

   Stassi Schröder MySpace

Oops-edit out pic, I think she's still 17. But it was the group photo with the Paolos, you can see it from there.

Thats why I'm rooting for the Linz family too, they seem to be just having fun and they seem to have the attitude of hey, if we win a million bucks because of it cool, if not then we had a hell of a trip.

n0nsensical 11-15-2005 09:14 PM

Now I know why it was a double episode last week; the god damned country music awards are on now. I'd rather have my eyes and ears stabbed out with a spork, frankly. Oh well, I'll watch season 6 instead.

yep, though it allowed me to watch the finale of the WSOP

Siege 11-22-2005 08:42 PM

Wow, judging by the posts, the Weavers aren't particularly popular.

And I fucking agree. Getting along with people isn't as hard as they make it seem.

1) You don't have to be nice, but at least don't be an ass
Weaver family: failed
Evidence: Throwing crap at other teams usually puts you in the ass category

2) Don't insult random people
Weaver family: failed
Evidence: Dumbass Weaver kid insulting a biker on his way to getting lost. That biker wishes he was Lance Armstrong? Well you wish you knew how to read a fucking map.

Missed the ep where they made fun of Mr. Paolo's profession, but would've added that too.

I just want the Weavers to lose, then we can hear about how all the teams are mean and that everyone is rude, and how they themselves were all polite and kind and in their minds they are the winner.

Spoiler: I can't believe today's episode was non-elimination. What bullshit.

Lucifer 11-23-2005 04:59 AM

Freakin Non-elimination legs! I hope the other teams laugh at them if they ask for $$$. and the worst attitude at the finish line. Phil should have thrown them out for being pathetic!

Catdaddy33 11-23-2005 08:54 AM

I agree, the Weavers must go..

I'm pulling for the Bransons, the dad is really kicking ass. Even the Desperate Housewives didn't get on my nerves as much as they did during the last few episodes. The Weaver's need to stop the "everyone hates us" and "we are all alone in this race" crap, they're alone cause they all but alienated themselves from the others, claiming their faith is getting helping them along, only to belittle and insult others at every chance...

BonesCPA 11-23-2005 09:19 AM

Hey, shouldn't we all be rooting for the Weaver's since all of the rest of the teams are going to spend their winnings on nose and boob jobs?

If they post the before/after pics, i'm all for it

hossified 11-23-2005 10:50 AM

i'd rather see the money spent on boobs and nose jobs...than mcdonalds and lypo.....cripes....its a race and those nutbars stopped for mcdonalds??? And why is the mom letting the kids eat that crap anyways....big macs and fries are the last things her daughters need to be eating....perhaps they shouldbe running beside the suburban, while the son drives it.....

I'm a fan of the bransens.....i tell ya, that father has got balls allowing his 3 hot daughters to be on tv like that....and that linz chick, anyone else think she resembles britney spears?

Lucifer 11-23-2005 11:55 AM

Watching last night, while the teams were at the overnight rest stop, my GF and I cracked up at the same time, cause we both had a vision of Wally and the Linz girl playing cards in one trailer while the Bransen girls and the linz boys got it on in the other...

mrklixx 11-23-2005 12:55 PM

For being the self professed "only christian team", the Weavers sure do hate an awful lot.
"I hate the other teams."
"I hate these bikes"
"I hate Utah"
"I hate this race"

[cruel moment] I'm beginning to think that the Weaver dad may not be dead, but may have faked his own death to get away from them. I know I would.[/cruel moment]

**SPOILER** **THIS IS NOT YOUR AVERAGE SPOILER BUT MAY CONTAIN INFO ABOUT THE POSSIBLE OUTCOME, SO IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW, DON'T LOOK**

Spoiler: I was doing a bit of searching to see if there had been any leaks about the winners, because if the Weavers won the whole thing, I was going to not waste my time watching the rest of the episodes. Anyway, it seems that some online betting places have cancelled betting on AR because of an extreme amount of betting on one particular team, and the majority of the bets are coming from the home state of this particular team. The same thing happened during the last race where there was a ton of bets placed on Uchenna and Joyce, who of course won. The good news is that it is NOT the weavers (hallelujah!). Now even though I've spoiler tagged this, I won't spill the beans, but if you are really interested, the info is easily accessed via Google

Can I say for the 456th time how fucking lame "non-elimination" legs are. If you want to stretch your episode count, have more teams

Siege 11-24-2005 11:21 AM

Well, non-elimination rounds do make it slightly more interesting because the team that would've been eliminated starts with nothing.

My gripe, is the fact that there was a yield (or whatever it's called that makes a team wait for the hourglass to empty), and it was a non elimination round. The whole point of the yield is to slow a team down to hopefully make them lose. And yet this was a leg of the race where the slowest team didn't lose. What's the point of giving the ability to yield if it becomes worthless? Especially since there are limited yields in the whole race.

The Weavers look like they weren't wearing everything they had, so they won't have much to use. And seeing as how the other teams hate them anyway, I wonder how they'll get money. Maybe the mom will whore out her daughters while continually saying that God would not disapprove.

Daval 11-24-2005 12:59 PM

Lets hope the next leg goes to Alaska. They won't have any clothes and will drop out - or freeze.

silent_jay 11-24-2005 03:12 PM

I love how the Weavers get mad at the Linz's for holding an arm up to them as they pass yet the Weavers throw garbage at the other teams and they see that as fine behavior. That family needs a collective slap in the face, or they need to pull their collective heads out of their asses.

They keep claiming that everyone else is against them, but I wonder if they ever stop to think why everyone else is against them. Possible because they act like asshats to everyone.

Hopefully they don't last much longer.

Just remembered something 6 mile bike ride and those fat assed girls, yeah that isn't going to be easy at all, I can't believe they thought it would be.

Yeah, I was laughing at that too. I was thinking "Easy? Well, if you say so."

n0nsensical 11-28-2005 10:56 PM

Mmm...from the worst greeter to one of the best. I liked that the Weavers took a shot at the Mormons, um, at least I think they did, but they still managed to be unfunny while doing so. I know I couldn't go three feet through Utah without taking some Mormon shots. It's almost like they were trying to go as slow as possible on this leg. Then more encouragment from Dr. Phil; really, Phil, that isn't necessary, this is reality TV not talk about our feelings psychiatry hour.

While watching some of the old seasons, I've realized there's one thing about this season that's definitely an improvement: no more taxicabs. Those things are awful for a lot of reasons, first the competition, teams really are at the mercy of their drivers and sheer luck to get one who gets them where they're going quickly. Second because it's annoying to hear the teams bitch and moan constantly about their drivers and do the ugly American thing by trying to get them to go faster all the time.

What really made me think of this was Hayden in season 6, I can't stand her, she's as bad as Flo, constantly whining about everything and bitching at Aaron, who's just taking it easy, to do something about it. At least Flo didn't constantly bitch AT Zach though she did do a lot of bitching in general, and at least her whiny voice was sexy. ;) The cab delays aren't a big deal when there are still a lot of teams in the race, but I think for the last few critical legs they should give teams their own vehicles so the outcome isn't so much determined by their luck with drivers.

Daval 11-29-2005 06:16 AM

Does anyone know if the Weavers have been interviewed or commented publicly during the run of the show?

Would be interesting to hear how they defend themselves.

Daval 11-30-2005 05:29 AM

These 'production errors with the cameraman draining the battery' really suck ass. Didnt bother me so much when it happened once, but when it happens again? Thats bullshit. Thankfully the round isnt over so the Linz's can catch up.

It woulda been nice to see them freaking out at the side of the road at the dumbass camermen though.

Good episode though. I love the editing of the Weavers - they really look bad. And the Godlewski's, although the one sister is particularily annoying and whatnot I do feel kinda bad for her cause I share some of those same traits where I try to jump into things headfirst. She's enthusiastic as hell and not as bad as her sisters may think. They need to come together as a team if they are gonna win this thing.

The Bransens are kicking ass too. I love them. Lets hope for a three sister Maxim shoot after the race!

Derwood 11-30-2005 06:16 AM

I don't think those Bransen sisters are really that good looking....

What is up with 2 straight weeks without elimination? I know it's a 2 part episode, but that's just annoying.
The Godlewskis are total bitches to that one sister. They pick on her until she cries, then pick on her for crying. Total bullies

And how did they manage to go 7 or 8 seasons without draining car batteries, but then it happens twice in a week? They should let the victimized team jump ahead again. If I was eliminated because of that, I would be SOOOO pissed

Daval 11-30-2005 07:01 AM

yeah, at least have them start at the same time as other teams and not be penalized with the delayed start.

BonesCPA 11-30-2005 07:51 AM

The best part of the last nights show was the Old Faithful challenge. I was wondering if just one team would get screwed or would it be multiple teams. Watching the geyser go off in the distance must have been devastating.

And I guess we all know why Diehard isn't a sponsor.

silent_jay 11-30-2005 08:13 AM

I agree those production errors are getting bad, I couldn't believe it when they had another one last night. They should get to jump ahead, it isn't like the production error was their fault.

What's up with the Weaver mom yelling at the Linz's that they wasted their yield? She seems to be getting nuttier every episode. The Weavers still can't figure out why they're hated, I hope after they watch the show they can figure it out, they've acted like asshats all show.

fresnelly 11-30-2005 09:00 AM

One advantage of the non-elimination rounds, is that it jacks up the tension between the teams. The winning teams are just as frustrated as you are every time the last place team gets a break. These longer stretches allow for the competitors to get to know each other, making the race more personal, thus raising the stakes.
I don't mind the Non-E rounds at all.

mrklixx 11-30-2005 01:51 PM

"You're supposed to yied to outgoing traffic"
"Well you're not supposed to be a psycho bitch, but I don't think either is going to happen" :D

Lets just say that if it happened to me, I dont care how much it would cost me, that camera would be quickly broken into many many pieces.

Daval 12-07-2005 05:48 AM

My god those editors know how to play with our emotions. I was so hoping the Godlewski's would make a last minute pass on the Weavers to make it into third place.

Bransens and Linz's are kicking ass, I'd be happy if either of these two win.

Lucifer 12-07-2005 06:52 AM

one annoying family down, one to go. The sisters might have made it, if they hadn't spent so much time bitching at each other on the golf course. But those "carts" were kick-ass!

Seriously, they weren't even that far behind even with all that bitching.

And those carts were wicked! The ones at a private golf course i've been to seem like toy cars compared to those

silent_jay 12-07-2005 08:14 AM

I think the Godlewski's should have had a no holds barred fight at the end, they pissed and moaned the whole show, then they pissed and moaned in their final episode, I was actually happy they got eliminated now I don't have to listen to them arguing anymore.

From the preview next weeks show looks interesting, one of the LInz's saying Rolly Weaver is lucky he didn't break his arm, that would have been sweet, and of course old lady Weaver yelling don't you touch him.

It was funny listening to the Weavers try and figure out who was the ugliest in their picture, I think they were all equally as ugly as the other, although the mother does have skin that loks like she could be from that time period, so she had that going for her.

fresnelly 12-07-2005 07:25 PM

OMFG! They're coming to Canada next week! They don't say it, but If you watch next week's preview, you can clearly see a number of Toronto and Ontario locales:

Pearson Intl. Airport
Spadina Subway Station
The old Silos at Queen's Quay and Bathurst
A Harbourfront area parking lot
A Circus school - Probably at Harbourfront

The 'Jet Boats' on the Niagara River in Niagara On The Lake
A curling rink.

This makes things much more exciting for me. I can yell at the TV "TURN LEFT YOU IDIOTS!" and so on. It's the 2 hour finale so check your listings.:)
