How on Earth did a terry Gilliam film slip my attention, it comes out this month, and I had not heard of it til I saw the poster last week.

I didn't realize anything about this film until going on the Internet Movie Database to look up Matt Damon movies. This movie looks really good but might suffer from lack of press. Let's hope that isn't the case.

I love Terry Gilliam as a director. So far I liked all his movies. I will go see it and try to look pass the fact that Matt Damon is in it. :hmm:

I hadn't heard of this film until we went to the movies last week and saw a poster...no commercials, no trailers, nothing. I'm sure we'll go see it when it comes out.

I seen a teaser tonight on television.

It took me a minute to figure out that that was Matt Damon, another to recognize Heath Ledger and yet, another minute to figure out what the hell was going on.

P.S. Am I the only person who liked The Adventures Of Baron Munchausen??

The Adventures Of Baron Munchausen kicked ass. Terry Gilliam is one of my favorite directors, other then Stanley Kubrick. I loved Terry on Monty Python.

This movie definitely looks like it could be a sleeper hit. I'm looking forward to it, especially with regards to all the drivel that seems to be released right now-- it's time for something new and interesting in the Marquee.

Absolutely not, thank you for asking this is one of those films that I adore yet no one seems to know. I have forced a couple people to watch it when I saw it on cable, and they loved it.

I need to get some Gilliam dvds I keep hoping he will have a smash hit and they will go back and do special editions of his films. I need the Criterion Brazil, and really want to see Lost in LaMancha, which is a documentary of a film he never finished, which starred none other than Johnny Depp.

I thought the La Mancha thing stared Lithgow?

Filmmaker & Monty Python alumni Terry Gilliam has dreamed for years of making a movie about Don Quixote. He finally got the chance to make his dream movie, "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote," in 2000, starring Johnny Depp and, in the title role of Don Quixote, French actor Jean Rochefort. But due to budget problems, shooting schedule problems, horrible weather problems, and the unfortunate ill health of actor Rochefort, the production was a disaster from the word go. After only 6 days of troubled shooting, "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote" was completely abandoned.

Fortunately, out of the wreckage of Terry Gilliam's never-finished film comes "Lost In La Mancha," a brilliant documentary that captures everything that went wrong with the movie, from the first eight weeks of pre-production (which wasn't smooth sailing either) to the disastrous six-day shoot that followed. We see both sides to Gilliam throughout the movie---one minute he's giddy with delight at making his dream movie, the next minute he's blowing his obscenity-laden top over his project collapsing all around him. And it's not just Gilliam who suffers, as *everyone* involved with the movie, both in front of & behind the camera, gets dragged down right along with him as all hell breaks loose on the doomed production.

Watching "Lost In La Mancha" is not only fascinating, but it's also very educational, giving the viewer a first-hand look at what goes on behind the scenes of mounting a movie, including all of the business aspects involved such as financing & other professional agreements that have to be made before a single frame is shot. It's also a sad documentary to watch, too. Looking at all the terrific hardware, costumes and set pieces that were created for the movie (including marvelous life-size marionette puppets that can march in perfect synchronicity), plus the widescreen footage of the scant few scenes Gilliam shot before the production was shut down, the viewer is given a genuine glimpse of the movie that *might* have been, and is all the more saddened---and sympathetic with Gilliam & his team---because of it.

Happily, though, all is not lost for "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote" just yet. Terry Gilliam is reportedly preparing for a second attempt at shooting the movie, and, having seen the movie's potential in this excellent documentary, I wish Gilliam all the best in the world in finally bringing his Don Quixote movie to the big screen. Judging by the glimpses of it in "Lost In La Mancha," I definitely believe it will be a truly great movie. :-)

just found out that gilliam is directing it, so it will probably be much better. maybe he can even make the big bucks he deserves on it, who knows.

I've been following the making of this film for at least a year. I'm soo excited for it!

And yes, I love Baron too. It was one of the first movies I ever saw and has been extremely nostalgic and awesome to me ever since. I was dumbstruck when I grew up and found out it was considered a flop :hmm: :lol:

I saw it yesterday and I have to say it was mostly a let down. It just seemed overburdened by special effects and plotting. Some really hilarious moments including the Office's Gareth and Spoiler: a kitten being kicked into rotating blades. It seems like it's being spun as a sleeper to hide the fact that it's actually a failed hollywood action/effects film. Great performance from Jonathan Pryce and Heath Ledger was surprisingly not too bad.

I would have to agree with Locobot's review. It was a decent film, but nothing really seemed to gel together. I don't like fomula movies, but this seemed to try to make a non-formula movie by mixing a bunch of different formulas.

I saw this earlier today and was really disappointed. It has a spastic flow to the story and some of the dialogue is really difficult to understand.

Oh man! I'm going to see it soon and I must say I'm not getting excited. I heard some bad reviews. No one really likes it. I love Terry Gilliam and I would hate to see one of his movies suck. Well, I'll try to block out the reviews when I go see it.

I really, really wanted to. Hubby didn't :( There was only one part of the movie that actually grabbed my attention Spoiler: when the girls face gets "stolen", that part was pretty cool, but was completely ruined when the gingerbread man jumped into her and she bit her own thumb and said, I taste good!! Completely ruined it

I would highly advise not wasting your money or time on this film.
