Yeah, I like Troma films, they are certainly different. I wouldn't ever consider buying any of them though, I just catch them when they come round on TV.
I've seen Toxic Avenger 1 & 2, Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD and Terror Firmer and they are all funny in a 'so bad they're watchable' kind of way. I didn't realise Cannibal: The Movie was Troma <--- Thats a funny film! |
Ah yes Troma.... Class of Nuke 'Em High, great movies. Brings back better memories.
In the beginning of VHS there were so many truly great Indie studios that released great movies. Sadly almost all have been swalloed up or forgotten. Nice to know Troma has survived. |

Surf Nazis Must Die. Oh yeeeaaah baby.
USA's Up All Night back in the day was all about Troma. Nuke Em High, how could I have forgotten about that one? |
I went to theatre school with 2 people who were in Tromeo and Juliet (Sean Gunn and Valentine Miele)

I have seen some Troma movies. I think it's funny how the director/creator uses the same car crash in like 3 movies. Also, the same little girl, who I think is his daughter, is in a bunch of the movies as well.
I would say that Cannibal the Musical is their best movie. "Yes we are...Indians...Don't you see our T-P..." |

I've got something of a collection myself. I think my favorite's Sgt. Kabukiman, although the first Nuke 'em High and Tromeo & Juliet are close runner-ups. I picked up Terror Firmer ages ago, and still haven't gotten around to those acres of extras they pimped- supposedly, this was the most content-packed DVD ever made up to that point. I also really dug Toxie 2, the one where he goes to Japan. It's even got a cameo from Go Nagai in it (Devilman, Cutey Honey).
There were a number of movies I bought on the name alone, and royally regretted it (damn those clever marketing types!). Fat Guy goes Nutzoid was something I wanted to see for years- even though all the stuff on the box actually happens (Fat Guy with mohawk chick, hanging from helicopter, jacking up a mailbox) it still manages to be really boring. And there's that loathsome guy with the mustache, who wears a tobacco-stained shirt that you can see his bony physique through when he stands in front of a light source. He's like a walking recessive gene. :| Same with Teenage Catgirls in Heat- nothing can live up to that title. |
I've only seen the Toxic Avengers. Funny as shit. Especially when they throw the one guy into the meat grinder and it has the cheesiest blood spray ever.
Gotta check out the other ones. :) |
I've met Lloyd Kaufman a few times at the American Film Market he's a really nice guy. Very unassuming.
