I have so many movies that I love that I'd have to spend some serious time thinking to narrow it down to my top three. But off the cuff:

Pretty In Pink

The Blaire Witch Project

Fargo

*must resist the urge to rattle off many more movies*

Then there is a completely different category of moviedom that would be "Tom Hanks Movies". My non-three-conforming list would be:

Forest Gump

Castaway (brilliant writing, acting and gorgeously filmed)

Saving Private Ryan

The Terminal (yes, I know almost everyone hated it, but we love it)

Ali

All involving Brad Pitt and/or Edward Norton.

wow, those are possibly my list but I could also include: Boogie Nights, High Fidelity, 25th Hour (another great Norton Film). A film, and make fun of me if you must, I thought was suprisingly great, was The Butterfly effect. Really kept me on the edge of my seat.

Daoust 07-26-2007 05:22 PM

Usual Suspects
Oh Brother Where Art Thou
Requiem For A Dream

What's with all you Fight Club fans? I thought that movie was shite.

If you see it without any kind of hype and no possible spoilers or anything like that, then it's awesome. I saw it on tmn 1 year after it came out so i had no fucking clue what to expect apart from being about a fight club.

The movie itself is really well done and i love edward norton and brad pitt as a pair. 9/10

pan6467 07-26-2007 09:15 PM

Casino
Godfather 1 & 2 (I know they are 2 movies but you can't just count 1 and not the other..... 3 sucked sewer water though.)
What about Bob

The top 2 probably will never change the bottom one will alsway be in flow depending on mood, temperment and just what I am liking at the time.

Impetuous1 07-27-2007 04:53 PM

Godfather I and II
Gladiator
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

... really? Wow. I mean, it's not on my top 3, but that movie definitely got me all hot and bothered. Maybe it was the Pitt/Norton combo, I don't know, but mostly I just thought it was incredibly intense and thought-provoking... a very important movie in its own right (apart from the book). I also think about it every time I go to IKEA.

As for me, I thought I posted here before, but here goes:

The Syrian Bride
Sideways
Three Seasons

Garden State (dammit, I can't help it)

snowy 08-06-2007 01:48 PM

Girl with a Pearl Earring
Lost in Translation
Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring

Yes, two Scarlett Johannson movies...suppose it's dictated by my mood today. Ask me tomorrow and they might be different, but generally I have a top ten, and if asked to pick less than 10, I pick from that list.

albania 08-06-2007 02:13 PM

Shawshank Redemption - I read and quite liked the short story first, the movie really lived up to my expectations.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - just the music and the theme, I would watch it anytime just for that.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - this is probably on here because I watched it recently.

desal75 08-10-2007 09:06 AM

Goodfellas
The Godfather II
Grandma's Boy

roachboy 08-10-2007 09:49 AM

um....any list i give is just a function of what i can remember right now and my mood. arbitrary, then.

vera chytilova: daisies
andrei tarkovsky: solaris
chris marker: la jetée

i love napoleon dynamite almost as much.

mixedmedia 08-10-2007 10:31 AM

This is an impossible question, but I will submit the first three that pop into my mind:

Cinema Paradiso
The Bicycle Thief
Sullivan's Travels

hagatha 08-12-2007 12:42 PM

Yeah, its a toughie and I took a few days to consider it...

Das Boot --Director's cut, undubbed
Angels and Insects
The Shining and/or Fight Club/and Fanny and Alexander

tecoyah 08-12-2007 01:28 PM

The Thing-second one
Aliens
My Fair Lady- Hey, what can I say.....Shes a perfect woman in so many ways

Not Right Now 08-14-2007 07:14 AM

Cabinet of Dr Caligari
Sanjuro

the next three are in no particular order so I couldn't pick just one:

Dracula: Pages from a Virgin's Diary
American Psycho
Fear and Loathing

Izathatch 08-14-2007 07:26 AM

Batman Begins- I'm a massive Batman fan and I can't get enough of this movie, The Dark Knight however looks like it'll surpass this one.

Hellraiser- One amazing movie. While HR2 is a better movie overall IMO, it wouldn't exist without the first one so I barely place this one before HR2.

Transformers: The Movie (1986) - I have seen this movie over 200 times, literally. It was my favorite movie as a kid and it still is my favorite movie.

dd3953 08-15-2007 07:35 PM

i haven't even seen most of these movies listed (including fight club) . . . but let's see . . .

love stories: loving annabelle, when night is falling, & 2 girls in love
other: labyrinth, friday, & serial mom

picking 3 was too hard, so i didn't.

fatboss 08-16-2007 02:14 AM

My top 3 are........

Trading Places ("hey, one gorilla, two gorillas, who cares?")
Blazing Saddles (see my signature)
I Robot (could watch it over and over)

There are many, many other films but I'm playing by the rules and givin' ya just three.

mandy 08-21-2007 10:43 PM

My Fair Lady (I could've danced all night)
Deep Blue Sea (who you gonna trust? me! you gonna trust me)

uuuummmmmm, there are so so many of them, it's hard to pick a third.

but if i was held at gunpoint and absolutely had to pick one, i'd pick...

Mr Brooks with Kevin Costner (havnt seen it yet but i have a feeling it's going to be one of my favs cos it's my favorite type of movie )

Damnfinn 09-05-2007 11:01 AM

It's hard to name just three, since it depends on my mood.
THE QUIET MAN, I REMEMBER MAMA, THE 13th. WARRIOR.
I REMEMBER MAMA because it reminds me of all the old timers i grew up around. There are many more I enjoy but to put them in and order is difficult.
I usually go a movie for entertainment not for spirtual enlightenment (unless I'm with my girlfriend).

kathy 06-07-2008 06:28 AM
