I hate Katie Holmes

Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, and John Travolta make me sick. Tom Cruise should just shut the fuck up and be an actor. What an easy job if your good looking, think about it. You need no brains to be an actor. There is no talent involed. All you have to do is pretend. Ya, sure, there are good actors, I'm not saying that, but why do we put this people on pedestals? Why do we care so much about their lives?

Scientology......What the Fuck!! Gee.. I want to follow a Religion that a science fiction author came up with. Hubbard was a smart business man though. I think I'll start my own religion and charge people lots of money to join. Instead of aliens to worship I'll have everybody worship ghosts. Ya Ghosts!.................acutally aliens are more cool than ghosts. No one would belive ghosts. Thats to out there. Or would they???

i've been reading a lot about scientology lately. i think it is much weirder than the weirdest mainstream religion. even weirder than mormonism, which is not exactly mainstream itself. it is certainly a cult.

even though i think the likelihood of buddah or mohammed or moses doing whatever they supposedly did is higher than the likelihood of the alien/volcano/thetan business, that's not why this is crap. i find the treatment of the individual more interesting. here is a good analysis that i came across:

http://www.cultclinic.org/qa3.html
Quote:
CULT, CULTIC GROUP
Deceit in recruitment
Totalitarian
Destroys the family unit
Isolates its members
Keeps non-believers out
Exploits and manipulates its members with mind control techniques
Commitment is encouraged during recruitment process
Criticism is met with threats of legal action
Leader and follower consider leader to be above reproach
Questioning the leader, or basic tenets, is not allowed

RELIGION
Information offered up front
Allows freedom of thought and members have a say
Promotes the family unit
Works within society
Open to general community
While there are guidelines members are not systematically controlled
Thought before commitment is encouraged as part of conversion process
People are free to speak out against the tenets of a religion
Clergy are expected to be responsible for their words and actions
Critical thinking is allowed and (hopefully) encouraged
anyway, let's get back on cruise control...

Scientology's celebrities are compensated richly for endorsements with:
...
Free luxury accommodations and carte blanc use of the finest Scientology facilities and properties. Scientology's current leader David Miscavige learned that after Tom Cruise divorced Mimi Rogers, he was persuing Nicole Kidman. Miscavige also learns that Cruise has a fantasy of running through a field of tall wheat grass with Kidman. So, Miscavige orders a section of Scientology's desert compound in Giman Hot Springs to be plowed under and planted with wheat. At a cost of tens of thousands of dollars, and through the slave labor of cult members who work all day and all night for weeks, a field of tall wheat grass is grown in the desert so that Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman may run though it. During their visit, Cruise and Kidman are provided the additional luxuries of a specially prepared suite, maids, and two four-star chefs, all at scientology's expense as a quid pro quo exchange for Cruise's endorsements of Scientology.
maybe it's not so bad (for tom cruise) after all!

I'm going to cut down my original post, and just say these two things. First, the irony you create is positively delightful. "Tom Cruise shouldn't talk about things he has no experience or education in" then "acting requires no talent". Absolutely fantastic! Hypocrisy reigns in the envious land of Tom Cruise hatred.

Everyone has overreacted to what Tom Cruise said on the Today Show. That douchebag who interviewed him was twisting his words, and the ASA (or whomever it was that released a written rebuttal) is just an elite group of fucktards trying to cover their precious grasp on the public, and control over what types of opinions are allowed regarding psychological problems. Tom Cruise said that drugs do not cure the problem. SURPISE, they don't. Amazing. He said that there are better methods of treating mental disorders. SURPRISE, sometimes there are. It may not be exercise and vitamins like he said, but psychiatrists and neurologists really don't know fuck all compared to what everyone thinks they know, and they pretend to know.

They forced businesses to pay them a large percentage of their profits each month or boycotted them and did other things which forced non-paying companies to go out of business in that town.

DO NOT GET INVOLVED IN THIS CULT!
which town in Florida?? give the facts please.

Well they have all your attention so they are doing something right. Yor're not alone though. It's hard to get away from it.

I believe in my own religion. It's called ..."I don't give a fuck." Miraculously, those who seemed at one point all encompassing,.. soon dissapear.

Ignore it and it will go away. Heighten it's importance beyond that of polishing a turd, and soon it will stink with over exposure.

This thread is funny! I used to live near a scientology "castle" (in San Jacinto)I wasn't allowed in, but it was bad ass looking from the outside. I guess L Ron Hubbard used to live there (Hemet, near San Jacinto).

Hmm. I went to church as a child, and I'm not brainwashed. My parents gave a few dollars each week which was then dispersed to charity. The place was filled with happy, friendly people. Is that absurd? Not all religions are the same.

But seriously, how can ANYONE believe in Scientology? I mean, I'm all for freedom of religion, and I think different beliefs are great... but I can never quite wrap my brain around this one. *sigh* Oh well...

If, at any time, you'd like to back up your statement with anything slightly resembling evidence, feel free to do so. We won't stop you.

i don't need any 'evidence' to back up the statement because what i stated is not only my opinion, but for the most part truthful as well. to say that any one religion is superior to the other (if you wish to call scientology a religion or cult is irrelevant, as both are generally the same, and all religions/cults are no better than one another) is simply a ridiculous statement. everyone is entitled to worship any "god" they wish, and the fact that there is no proof of such an "entity", is all the evidence i need. the size of the flock doesn’t change anything either.

and hulk, i'm sure there were plenty of happy and friendly people in your church, it's nice to have an imaginary friend such as "god" to put their minds at ease and cease questioning. when there is a "god" in your life, you have no more need to worry as it is all "gods" will/plan.

I was referring specifically to the "bullshit brainwashing cults". First off, a cult is a non-mainstream religion, and therefore the statement calling all of them cults is an oxymoron. Second, if you'd like to give me a lesson in "brainwashing", I'm open ears.

Also, evidently religions and cults can be better or worse than one another, as "better and worse" are subjective terms, and hence I believe I can safely say that the majority of the world (which like it or not, is religious) would consider their own religion to be superior (or "better") to others.

cult ( P ) Pronunciation Key (klt)
n.

A system or community of religious worship and ritual.
it doesn't seem to state that a cult is non-mainstream. is not religion communities of worship? as i stated before, the size of the flock doesn't change the facts. sadly, you are correct, the majority of the planet is religious and severely lack independent thought, but nonetheless, it seems to keep the majority of them in check, which can be viewed positively. and yes, it is brainwashing due to the simple fact i stated earlier about the lack of proof that “god” exists. billions of people are following a religion (a majority comprising of monotheism) because it is what society says is 'right'. their inability of independent thought has rendered them helpless to think otherwise, and if that's not brainwashed, then it's a dangerous mental weakness. whatever floats your boat though, nothing is going to change as humanity is already doomed for self destruction.

indeed better or worse are subjective terms, but in this case, viewing this objectively, they are all one in the same in essence.
