Shows from your youth
I'm sitting at home, watching TV at 3am. Im watching the a-team, the cosby show, and bosom buddies. Bosom Buddies is before my time, but I didnt realize back in the day how bad the A-Team and the Cosby Show were. What shows held up? What shows stunk? I think the show that held up the best, and still will, was Cheers, and the most disappointing was Night Court.

Oh goodness - Bosom Buddies -- look how far Tom Hanks has come -- who knew he'd have won an Oscar from his performance in that series.
![]() Let's step into the wayback machine for a moment -- the ABC Friday Night Lineup. The Brady Bunch (yup, it was a primetime series), The Partridge Family, and I beleive Love American Style. Playing the Love Boat drinking game in college, followed by Fantasy Island, pure trash. Mork and Mindy I think held up really well, Robin Williams was funny then he's still funny. anyone remember when tv stations signed off for the night? In the good old days before reruns and infomercials...

Man from Atlantis
Six Million Dollar Man Kroft Superstars (Electra Woman and Dyna Girl, Doctor Shinker, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters) Hong Kong Phooey Laff-a-lympics (all the Hanna Barbara characters in wacky Olympic sports... Scoobie Doobies vs. Yogi Bear's team vs. Bad Guys... what were the team names) Falcon and DynoMutt Secret Railroad... some animated French series with an English dub where this kid has a train station in his closet that he rides to another world... the girl with the star shaped hair is always there to meet him (Lisa Simpson totally stole her hair style).

If we're talking prime-time shows I remember as a child - like 5 or 6 - then Emergency! was my absolute favorite. Followed by The Six Million Dollar Man, The Incredible Hulk, and Wonder Woman. A show that I hated then but find funny now and seems to have stood the test of time is Barney Miller.
There's a station here in Chicago called Me-TV that on Jan. 1 started showing lots of old shows, kind of like what TVLand used to be. Sunday Nights at 9 is Alfred Hitchcock presents and at 10 is Twilight Zone. Sunday night has become my new "Must See TV". Every night at 8 is Mary Tyler Moore and at 8:30 is Bob Newhart, 2 shows I never saw as a kid but am picking up now and really enjoying.

Hey! The Cosby Show was good!
The Dukes of Hazzard is one show that I've seen and I can't believe I watched and liked. Little black kid in Texas getting all giddy and pretending my dad's car was the General Lee and wanting to paint a rebel flag on the roof. Oh and All in the Family and the Jeffersons...can't believe they showed characters acting that racist on tv. |

The show that I consistently hope to see in syndication is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which I believe may in fact be the best children's cartoon ever created. I'd also like to see Captain Planet again. Shows from my youth (youth in my case being probably 12-) that stunk I don't remember that well, but one that sticks out in my mind is Degrassi High. God I hate that show, and all incarnations of it thereafter.

Nobody mentioned Fat Albert! *grins* I wasn't allowed to watch television, but on Saturday morning, if it was on PBS or "educational" we were allowed to watch for a couple of hours during the hottest part of the day, while we weren't outside.....
So my line up included Sesame Street (and yes, I'll still watch it now if I catch it on... I LOVE Snuffalumpagus. *grins), Reading Rainbow, 3-2-1 Contact, Electric Company, Saturday morning book-to-short films (Not the After School special, though we sometimes could watch those, no these were short books that were made into hour long films, I forget the name of the show).... I used to sneak up late at night and watch tv in the kitchen after everyone went to bed..... Friday Night Videos! heheh..... and Up All Night with Gilbert Godfried, before Rhonda Shearer. And Maleficient.... You're not the only one who sings the preamble to the Constitution. *grins* There's a cd out of remakes by bands of all the Saturday Morning cartoon theme songs AND one of the Schoolhouse Rocks songs. I bought them both, and they're two of my favorite cds to pop in the player when I need fun music to clean or cook to. heheh.

It seems like I've answered this before, but I was hooked on The Beatles cartoon and The Banana Splits. One of the shorts featured in Banana Splits was "Danger Island," and the lead character used to say, "Uh oh, Chongo." For some reason, I still say this phrase a lot to this day.

warrrreagl... I remembered the reverb but not Oh Mighty Isis... but I just Googled it and you are right...
This thread is dredging up all kinds of stuff from my childhood... Kids Are People Too The Bay City Rollers Show (if was more stuff from Sid and Marty Krofft) ICER... it wasn't the Bugaloos... I just looked it up. It was Kaptain Kool and the Kongs... they were the hosts of The Krofft Supershow that featured: Electra Woman and Dyna Girl, Dr. Shrinker and Wonderbug and some epoisodes of Lost Saucer... It's amazing how much live action programming there was in those days... The Great Grape Ape... Thundar the Barbarian Anyone remember the short lived live action Spiderman series?

Yes. Yes it was really bad. I worked at video store (many years ago) and we had a couple episodes of it on the shelf... I used to play it on the store system... It was so bad it wasn't even funny...
Tales of the Gold Monkey rings a bell... What about "Bring 'em Back Alive?"... I loved that show...
