House, M.D.; does anyone else watch this?
I searched for a thread about House on here but I didn't find anything. Anyone else watch this show? It's Tuesday on FOX. I like it, I think House is funny because he's a friggin bastard. Anybody else catch this show?
|
I love House.
Greatest show on FOX as of late. Like, it's cool how sarcastic he is, and he knows how to push peoples buttons, but for the good of the case. |
"Take two asprin and don't call me...ever" House M.D.
It is an awesome show...I'm intrigued as to what is going to happen on the show each and every time I watch. I enjoy his (Dr. House's) cynicism, sarcasm and wit. I find him to be hilarious. The writers of this show have a great thing. :D
|
House is great, I've really enjoyed the episodes I've seen, it comes on a little late for me to want to stay up though since my bedtime is usually around 9
|
This show is great..... Did they figure out who is being fired yet? If feel like I missed something...
|
I watched it religiously when it first came out, and I really like the House character. However, I think the show got stagnant way too fast. Every episode was "Someone comes in with a mysterious, life-threatening illness, and after trial and error, House comes up with some brilliant idea that saves the patient". I know there are other sub-plots, like his pain med addiction, but the sheer repetition of the main plot kind of put me off. Now, I only tape it if I'm not taping anything else.
|
I have a question for those who watch it....last week's episode (I think) was about the woman who they supposed had some kind of sleeping sickness...and were trying to get the hubby to admit he'd had an affair.
I didnt get to see the last 10 minutes...does anybody remember how it ended? |

aha!!! I had a feeling it was her and not him. She reminded me of the wife in the CSI episode where her husband killed the girl that worked for Lady Heather
|
On this past weeks show it looked like the girl doctor has left the show. Is she really gone? I like her far more than the australian guy, Anyone been able to confirm anything?
|
Love the show. Hate the new Chairman of the Board.
The girl can't be dismissed that quickly. There has to be a further fumbling attempt at a love interest. Thanks for listening. |
I like this show a lot.
I'm just waiting for the big showdown between the boss man and House. With the last new episode taken into consideration, it has to be soon. I admit the main plot usually follows a pretty predictable path, but I watch it for the odd 'free clinic' patients he gets i.e. the girl who has sex while sleepwalking, the overweight gal with the big, freakin' tumor and when he told Santa to have a smoke to cure his 'bowel problem. Good stuff there. |
I absolutely love this show. Hugh Laurie does a fantastic job as Dr. House and is probably my favorite tv character along with James Spader's Alan Shore. I'd say this is by far my favorite new show of the season and I'm really glad it's set for another season. And, the fact that I'm watching it religiously now says a lot because it conflicts with Scrubs, which, in my opinion, is one of the best comedies of the past several years. My VCR recently gave up on the whole "being functional" thing, so I'm always in an unfortunate predicament on Tuesday nights.
As for the show's plot being redundant, I was never put off by the fact that the formula of "patient is admitted with weird ailment, House and team make guesses that are wrong then House realizes something and saves the day" has been used with each show I've been able to catch. The show is a medical drama, but the way it works is much more like a detective or CSI style show than ER, and just like those detective shows, one can assume the plot will at least loosely follow that formula. I really enjoy the rest of the cast and I think they all play off of House really well, and I'm really curious as to what will happen with Dr. Cameron (the doctor who resigned in the last episode). I hope she sticks around, because as well-written, interesting and funny as the show is, it doesn't hurt to have a ridiculously pretty woman in the cast, heh. |
I'm also a big fan of House. He says the kind of blunt, truthful things to people that most of us don't have the cajhones' to say to people in real life. It makes the show REAL funny and that's why I watch.
It sucks that one of them must go. My money was on the one that House actually picked, but I wasn't expecting him to be a snitch for the new Big Boss Man. |
I also really like this show. it is the same situation every week, but its written really well and you just can't get enough of the Dr. House character
|
Chalk up another for a fan of House, M.D.
I like how the patients don't even see House for the first 30 minutes of the show, and they're always like, "Who're you???" ;) |
I like when House has to do the GP thing. That baby putting stuff up his nose and that lady with the tumor in her belly, or last week the sleepwalker nympho.
|
I watch it every Tuesday when it's new. It's one of the 4 TV shows that I watch, which says a lot - I like it :) I'm really hoping Dr. Cameron isn't gone for good. First, because her character really provides a lot of personal insight into House, and it creates a good dynamic, but also because she's really cute. Not to mention the actor that plays her is basically from my hometown :D
I'm pretty positive the next episode is the last one for Vogler. |

House, Scrubs, Grey's Anatomy....
addict of all 3 here. |
I enjoy this show and catch it whenever I can. It's pretty good about getting the details right medically.
I'd echo the criticisms about House following the same pattern every week. I don't even think any of their patients of died yet. Considering these are supposed to be cases no one else can solve, that seems unrealistic. |
3 patients have died - the woman with rabies, a baby, and, today, a mother.
|
Hey everyone. I got the urge and made a new thread topic on House M.D. (your favorites) in General Discussion...Hope everyone enjoys! :D
|
yes! She's back! :D I do hope they close the romantic storyline well though...it shouldn't be too hard, but it's important that they do.
|
Ar first I was a bit skeptical of another Fox medical show, but it actually is very good.
*sigh* If only more medical shows were as entertaining as this & Scrubs... |
House is the only show on TV, other than the Daily Show of course :D , that I make time to watch every week. Me and my girlfriend love it!
|
Thanks for correcting me SecretMethod70. I really have to go back and get caught up on this show.
Am I the only one who finds it hard to believe that a girl like Cameron would fall for a guy like House? There's got to be something wrong with her. |
Quote:
totally agreed....too bad the jerks at the networks decided to play both at the same time :( I'm about 3 and a half hours from being absolutely torn between House and Scrubs. |
My parents love it. I can see the appeal.
I love the fact that they use Massive Attack - Teardrop for the theme! I love MA :D |
The Patient Has Rights
My friends and I love to watch House, there's just something about the dry wit that is great. That's just my kind of humor.
|
I have to say I was a little offended by last nites episode....as much as I love this show, views like that do nothing for people like Dave and I and the stigma that some people associate with BDSM relationships :( House called that guy a freak because he liked strangulation....well....I do too

I was just laughing because it was the same dude from Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle!

I really like this show. House is by far my favorite, but Wilson and especially the dynamic between the two made last night's episode that much more enjoyable. Now that House has gotten his date out of the way (the bald-faced realism during the restaurant scene was delightful) I wonder just how far the 'love interest' angle will be taken? |
House is easily my favorite new show of this season. I've been hooked ever since the first episode I saw, and this is my most anticipated show for next season.
Did anyone catch tonight's season finale? I think they ended their first season very well and it was really nice to finally get to see another side of House. A lot was explained regarding his leg in the past couple episodes, and we finally got to see a glimpse of House as a loving boyfriend and a large look at his past and the woman he's still in love with. Man, I love this show. |
Finale was great. I am glad they will keep playing the old episodes because apparently I missed a bunch of them. In the recap of the old ones, I didn't recognize hardly anything
|
For those that missed the finale:
Spoiler: last night was a continuation from the previous week. they found that the husband is in good health but his brain is dying. house had an idea to give him some hemoglobin but if he does and his guess is wrong he will die before the night is over. so they injected him with a substance to read his brain activity, they put him in a CAT scan and asked him some questions, he got agitated cuz House was asking the questions so he started ranting about how he took the wife on a honeymoon to paris and blah blah. so House talked to the wife and she said they never been to paris, so they looked at the pictures of his brain and realized on that question, his brain thought he was telling the truth but he wasnt...he was having delusions. so they realized what illness he had but to make 100% they need a urine sample when he was having his mentalattack..just then the patient was not able to feel his legs/hands he was becoming paralyzed. he brain was dying faster than they thought. and he didnt want to be injected with the hemoglobin. so house said fine. the wife wanted him to take it so they argued and house was going to inject him but the 3 doctors wouldnt let him, so he faked like he wouldnt then stabbed him in the leg. the injection was supposed to induce another attack. in the commotion his tube to his urine came undone so house drew urine straight from his bladder. He tested it and they found out what was wrong with him and treated him. he made a recovery but they want to keep him for observation. while he is in the hospital the wife applied for the job of Counsel for the hospital, but she would only take it if House approved. he reluctantly approved and went home. while at home he tried to walk w/o his cane but could barely manage 1 step. it went off with him sitting on his piano's bench and just staring into the camera. Now what is the deal with his leg i didnt watch all of the prequel to the season finale.. |
Sela Ward's character, the girlfriend, authorized an operation which removed a large muscle mass from Dr. House's leg. He was suffering from "muscle death" due to lack of circulation, which started the deterioration. It was either clean out they dying tissue, or amputate the leg. She signed the consent forms when he went into a coma. I do not recall what happened after that. I also missed the finale. Damn.
|
ok so they went ahead and cleaned out the dying tissue. he wanted to just see if it would pass on his own, right?
|
Yep. So House talked the doctor to put him into a coma to sleep off the worst of the pain and hopefully recover. Once he was out, Stacy (Sela Ward) acting on House's behalf had them do the other surgery that subsequently caused the limp. A surgery, House himself and previously declined.
The more I watch this, the more I like it. Sure he's caustic and sarcastic, but he's so funny. That opening scene where he drugged Stacy's new husband was fantastic. |
Quote:
Haha. The opening where House drugs Stacy's husband is absolutely the ridiculous/funny stuff you'd expect from House. And I also love House as the lovable anti-hero...much like Alan Shore of The Practice/Boston Legal. And to add on to the surgery that Stacy authorized. Basically, House was being stubborn, and incorrectly so because he was desperate to keep his leg and have it retain full functionality. However, because of how much muscle had died in his leg due to being deprived of blood/oxygen, the chances of that were very unlikely and House's decision to "wait it out" would almost definitely lead to his death. So, Stacy took the middle ground (something she even mentioned House was not a fan of), and had them remove the dead muscle mass in House's leg, saving his leg but also leaving him with limited functionality and a lifetime of chronic pain. House knew Stacy saved his life, but could not get over the fact that she went over his head and went against his explicit requests. He never forgave her for what she did, and that led to their relationship's demise. However, the flames definitely did not die...and that is something that should make next season very interesting from the get go. |
Anyone have the Finale on TIVO or something? I only got the first hour.... I think it was a two hour one right??
|
No, the finale was only an hour long.
|
So who watched the season premiere? I thought LL Cool J did a terrific job, although it almost seems wrong that I care about a serial killer. The ambiguous ending was done fantastically although Hallelujah seems to be overused on TV as of lately.
|
I watched it - I'm so glad House is back on TV. I don't watch too much TV, but I really enjoy the 3 or 4 shows I do watch regularly!
|
OMG HOUSE FANS!
He's gonna be parodied on MadTV tonigt |
Just watched it last night, and as a;ways, was pleased by the work of LL Cool J. That guy has some acting chops.
|
We have now have this show in England, and it is slightly strange for us as Hugh Laurie is a English comedy actor. It takes some getting used to seeing him playing the straight guy for once, and with an American accent. It is an ok show, but I can't see it have any long term future as all the episodes seem quite similar, as other people have pointed out.
|
Even I noticed that, but it doesn't make it any less good. I wish they would have more twists. Like the lady dying of rabies - that felt good in a sadistic kinda way. It proved that he isn't a miracle worker, and that they can't always win.
I wish now and again they would have something like they have to rush out of hospital because Dr. Cameron's brother has lost his arm, and like flesh eating bacteria has entered him, but only house has put it together etc. By the way - Best Writing Emmy for House - the three stories. (You champion) p.s. Has anyone seen him off screen? Not knowing him before, but when he opened his mouth and spoke with a english accent I was amazed, even if I already knew. |

Hugh Laurie got robbed at the Emmy's. I don't care how good James Spader is, Laurie deserved it.

I dunno, as a Boston Legal AND House fan it's a tough call. I'd have to say Laurie was a close second personally. His work with the accent is truly impressive, but I do think Spader's character is more challenging and he pulls it off quite well.
|
I found the episodes at the start of the first season were very similar, but as the season moved on they started moving on the side stories as well and my interest in the show was retained.
I have it set on TiVo so I never miss an episode now. |
Quote:
I knew that Laurie was british as I had seen him on 'Spooks' a few seasons ago (at least, I think it was 'Spooks'), but to see him parade around in a dress and acting the idiot was really, really weird. |
BlackAdder is one of my all time favourite British series. Completely and totally hillarious. I've seen them all.
Baldrick is my favourite character :) |
Dammit! I totally blanked last night and forgot to watch. Drat!
|
Black Adder is good but you should also check our Laurie in Wooster and Jeeves... More comic genius from our man Hugh...
As odd as some have said it is to see him playing the buffoon in Black Adder, I have find it odd to see him playing in House. To me, Hugh Laurie is a goofy, English, comedic actor. My mind sometimes has trouble marrying the two together as I watch House. I keep expecting him to be the Prince of Wales... House is great by the way. |
House is amazing. I'm hooked, the season premire was kinda BLAH but this past one with the little girl was OMG. see look at how much i love the show, I'm using caps. Anyway, quick question:
If anyone has downloaded it or TIVO'ed it, Right after they finish the Life or death procedure with her, they pan to Camron and the Australian dude, if you look behind them you see JOHNATHAN TAYLOR THOMAS. I thought it was wierd as hell, i was like...what's he doing there? Am i just hullucinating, do i miss HOME IMPROVEMENT that much? |
HAHA, I see who you mean. Not sure if that's actually him though.

Hey guys, it's Tony Shalhoub. ;)
I saw Hugh Laurie in one of those Rowan Atkinson period pieces on BBC America recently, (after having seen him on House and in the Stuart Little movies), and was very amused by the character, and amazed all over again by his House accent. He seems to have a different American accent in Stuart Little, than the House one. |
"one of those Rowan Atkinson period pieces on BBC America recently"
It's Black Adder dammit! Comedic genius, dammit! Don't make me come down to East Texas and re-edumacate you Fremen... I have frequent flyer miles and I'm not afraid to use, em. ;) |
 Yes-suh!
|
Monk rocks thou - and isn't House a comedy, just kinda? Also did NCIS get any nominations?
EDIT: Spelling |
House is definitely a drama.
|
This last episode was good but what was that little sub-plot about the black man not wanting racist drugs? In and of itself it was a fine bit of acting, writing, etc.
My problem lay more in that it felt like was grafted onto the episode rather than part of the organic whole. |
So, there are complaints when the secondary patient leads to a revelation regarding the primary patient, and now there are complaints when the secondary patient is it's own mini story by itself? Oh well, you know what they say - can't please everyone ;) :p
|
Another House fan here. I think that show has very good writing and chemistry. I will admit i am glad they got rid of that board of directors guy last season, he annoyed me beyond belief!
|
What did everyone think of the last episode (the one with Ron Livingston as the TB doc)? It was probably my favorite so far and probably the first one where I found myself disliking House throughout the whole show. Part of this was because I identified quite a bit with Livingston's character, but mostly it was because it really laid bare House's intense ego problem and how he cares more about being the "best doctor" than actually helping people and saving lives.
|
Oh my god, i loved last nights episode.
Especially the whole Spoiler: subplot about the breast cancer lady, and Foreman filling in for House at the clinic, then House trying to prove that people forgive cripples to Cameron right as Cuddy enters the room, making it seem like House was apologizing to the breast cancer lady. Man, that didn't come out right, but I think you know what I'm talking about. |
Quote:
|
I partly agree with you spec, but I think there was also a definite point in Livingston's character's comments about House not being comfortable with hope.
|
Quote:
I agree with Spec, that House was just calling BS on Livingston's character. And I also agree about House being called out for his pessimistic views, but it's not the first time he's called out and (at least momentarily) silenced by a patient. Off the top of my head, I remember him having a moment just like that with the Presidential hopeful Senator from season 1. Regardless, it was a fantastic episode. Tonight's episode was also great, and I continue to be amazed at how well-assembled this cast is. I don't want to go further and spoil anything for anyone, but I'll just say that this season just keeps getting better and better. |
Dude! I'm covering my ears, or more appropriately, my eyes! Down under, we're still on season one, the episode the 3 stories ep. Mmm, Carmen Electra.
Methinks it's time to discover Bittorrent... :) But thanks all for supporting House! |
Quote:
Haha. Don't worry, you're not too far behind. And definitely get your hands on the second season episodes if you can. The wait from season one to season two was almost painful, hah. |
Well if we're not getting Lost until 3 months into next year, and that finished ages I go, that leaves...
There aren't that many figures on my hand to show how many months until House. *Runs and cries*. |
As I am posting this from a hospital waiting room (it's pretty cool that they have public internet terminals here :D ), there were at least 2 things that are glaring examples that House is a completely fictional show. 1) The doctors are the ones who actually perform the tests/scans, and not JoeBob the technician. 2) Although I have not seen every single episode, I have not once heard "the HMO will not cover that procedure". ;)
|
silly me, here I thought House was akin to medical school
|
Quote:
BTW, that is pretty cool that the hospital has public internet terminals... Just be sure to double check the bill, no? I mean, it is a hospital. |
Saw the 'Three Stories' episode that won the Best Screenwriting award. Man it was good. Good back ground. Solved 3 cases. Beat up some trainee doctors and explained why his leg is dead. The only beef I have is there was about 5 minutes of Carmen Electra :(.
But definiatly deserved the award! |

So wait, are you sad that Carmen was in the episode at all, or that there wasn't enough of her? And how about that last episode? I enjoy that they give you little bits and pieces of the characters every so often like they did tonight. |
Not enough.
(I need more words) So how about House? |
