Has anyone seen Robot Jox?

If you or anyone you know has seen the film "Robot Jox" be advised: there are people who can help you.

My list of movies has two catagories the good good ones, and the good bad ones. "Robot Jox" starring nobody that you probably know, takes place in the future where all wars in the world have been abolished. So disputes are won by fighting giant robots manned by one 'robot jock' and its sort of a free for all.

I'm curious to see if anyone has seen this film:

believe it or not, it was a breakthrough in claymation.

YES I SAID CLAYMATION!!!!! rent it. You just have to rent it.

wow...claymation...

liquidlight 04-04-2005 10:59 PM

I've seen this movie, wasn't Roy Schnieder or some such the lead? As I recall I was a younger teenager and it was a spur of the moment rental. We all laughed so hard that we honestly made it all the way through.

FngKestrel 04-05-2005 12:23 AM

Was this the movie where they slid their feet on a pad in order to get the robot to move? If so, I've seen this. Pretty damn funny, but unintentionally so.

Fremen 04-05-2005 12:48 AM

The lead in this movie (which I have seen, btw) is Gary Graham, the guy who went on to play James Caan's part in the tv version of Alien Nation.

It was an ok movie. I've seen worse.

sgn43 04-05-2005 01:11 AM

I could, you know...crush you both....like BUGS!

ahhh, this is one of those movies from my childhood that were so bad that they were great. much like Blood Sport, and anything starring Steven Seagal.

Locobot 04-05-2005 02:14 AM

There were several films like it at the time, all of them horrible.

d*d 04-05-2005 02:30 AM

I've seen it and i think there's a sequel

ranger 04-05-2005 08:03 AM

oh the memories... "sob"

bendsley 04-05-2005 08:11 AM

yeah, i remember seeing this movie. the girl lead in it was pretty good looking as i remember.

off to check imdb to see who she was.

NeverBorn 04-05-2005 02:03 PM

I saw this movie, I love giant robots so it hit a twing in my amusement zone.

Fire 04-05-2005 10:17 PM

yes, I saw it- even had a copy under my "bad movies " file- havent seen it in about 10 years though, and think I threw it out, on account of none of my friends wanted it...... (after checkinh imdb, i was amazed to find that the texan was not joe don baker....)

Holdem Dvorak 04-06-2005 02:48 AM

Yeah I love the Nintendo suits they wear with all the sweet AV cables. My fav character would have to be Alexander. The sequal was called Robot Wars, and it included one actor that died in the first one who played a different character.

So Low Budget. But still awesome. Directed by Stuart Gordon.

Lasereth 04-06-2005 01:00 PM

Ha ha I've definitely seen it. I remember it sucking when I was little so there's no telling how bad it is now. When you're little, it's hard to not find big robots cool, but I definitely still thought the movie sucked. I feel compelled to watch it now.

Hain 04-07-2005 07:06 PM

Oh damn you Dvorak... Yes there are SEQUELS, Robot Wars and Crash and Burn, all of which are childhood favorites. The hot chick role, that was Dice Man's girlfriend. And I need one of those Nintendo suits. That movie is terrible and it gets funnier every single time I've seen it... I haven't watched that in a while though. Dvorak, were getting as many of the guys together for some crap movie festival.

AND IT ISN'T CLAYMATION! It was miniatures Dvorak! You know that!

Oh, I sound crazy.

ranger 04-07-2005 07:35 PM

yes you do, but what else is new? and you don't need a suit. but we do need a crap movie fest. and this is a crap movie. for the fest. sadly.

crow_daw 04-07-2005 09:45 PM

My family used to own a video store and we actually had this. I never in my entire life thought I would hear of that movie again. I seriously think if someone would have given me the task of writing down ten movies I never expected to be mentioned by anyone EVER, I would have come up with Robot fucking Jox.

Wow.

Willravel 04-07-2005 09:56 PM

I LOVED that movie. Espically the post traumatic stress about launching a giant, rocket propelled, metal fist into the crowd. That was why I became a psychologist.

I had goosebumps when the super Jox flew in with 4 legs!!! 4 LEGS!!!! Is this available on DVD yet?

sgn43 04-08-2005 02:08 AM

This isn't really related to the movie...but, I remember my best friend sneaking a porno to school back in 9th grade by concealing it in a RobotJox box. I saw it in a locker we shared and thought it was actually Robot Jox, so I started laughing. Then I took the tape out to find "Fresh Meat #5" which caused me to laugh even harder. So, there I was in the middle of the English building's hallway, laughing hysterically, holding onto a VHS tape while people looked at me as if I'd just lost my mind.

Ahh. Good memories.

Hain 04-08-2005 10:58 PM

What is everyone's interpretation of the giant chainsaw!

:Laughs hysterically: You'd fit in Antioch perfectly with Ranger, Dvorak, and myself. I am all for it coming out to DVD. And Dvorak knows, if it does, I'll have to buy two--"INCASE ONE BREAKS!"

The Super Jox though... what the hell did the production crew think people would think with that giant chainsaw!?

Seer666 04-09-2005 08:45 PM

I've seen it. And being the fan of bad movies that I am, I plan to own it. this movie sucked so bad it was great. The plot sucked, the acting was worse, the special effects second rate. Only Ed Wood could have made it better.

Holdem Dvorak 04-12-2005 09:06 PM

WillRavel, not only have you made my day, but you have proved that dwebs like me who just sit and TIVO Robot Jox everytime its on, can actually go out and be a productive member of society. Yes I love my TIVO. I can TIVO anything I want. I think i'm gonna post a thread about it.

Willravel 04-12-2005 09:11 PM

...Robot Jox was on tv>? What channel? I'll bet Robot Jox fans are the most productive and important members of society. We should be worshiped as GODS, for our tastes are greater than those of the common man.

Holdem Dvorak 04-12-2005 09:18 PM

WillRavel, it was on HBO once, ONCE. I coulden't find it again, but you better believe I have a TIVO scout out for it. I will post a thread for everyone when its on next.

Willravel 04-12-2005 09:29 PM

I figured you'd say it was on at 2 a.m. Monday morning on Sci Fi channel or something. HBO? Hahahaha..that's funny.

Even head shrinkers can be silly bastages.

Redjake 04-17-2005 12:59 PM

hahahahaha OH MY GOD I FORGOT about this movie. I saw this movie like 20 times when I was younger. Wasn't there another one called "robot wars" or something like that? I remember thinking "this sort of sucks" when I was like 12 or something but it was awesome because it had robots and people that piloted them from inside. ROCK ON!

Redjake 04-17-2005 01:05 PM

oh no. I just clicked on "view trailer" from the IMDB link and I am now officially rescarred for life. check it out :)

I've got fond memories of it. Most vividly, I recall the crotch-mounted chainsaw in the American guy's mech, and that his girlfriend was Raj's wife from What's Happenin' Now. The video store I used to work for had this cool 3-D plastic poster for the movie, and I swiped it when I quit.

Holdem Dvorak 04-24-2005 10:01 AM

I too used to work at a movie store. They fired me for poor sales numbers. Yeah didn't sell enough damn "reply".
