Recommend One Movie to buy
If you can only recommend one movie that everyone should have in their collection what would it be?
Beatles - Hard Day's Night
City of God
Ferris Buellers Day Off
Casablanca
This is really hard.
Office Space |
Quote:
Reservoir Dogs. |
I say you have to have Boondock Saints in your collection
Groundhog Day. I've seen it many times and I still enjoy it.
Fight Club
The Royal Tenenbaums. I've watched that masterpiece more times than I can count. Hearing the chorus of Hey Jude burst out at the start just fills me with undescribable joy every time.
The Big Lebowski
Shane
*must resist more recommendations* |
Just one hmmm...
The Godfather |
Elvira Madigan
Seven Samurai
No doubt. |
The Shining.
Animal House.
Porky's #1
oh yeah |
Mystery Men.
The 1st DVD I ever bought. |
The Wedding Singer
Agreed this is very hard..someone has already chosen Fight Club so I'll say;
Pulp Fiction |
Pi. Definitely.
The Wizard of Oz
no fucking place like home, baby |
Ian Fleming's Thunderball
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Since a lot of the movies I'd recommend have already been mentioned, I'll say:
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind |
I guess I'd have to say Rounders
Rounders is a good movie for sure. Im surprised no one has mentioned GoodFellas.
I'm going to have to second Boondock Saints.
jay and silent bob strike back -- you gotta have something with dick and fart jokes!
Heat, such a great movie. Its kinda hard to find around here though. That's my answer right now.
BUT, when it actually comes out, consider my answer changed to Donnie Darko: Director's Cut. :D |
People have mentioned Boondock Saints and Fight Club, so I'll go with Army of Darkness.
I was going to say City of God myself, but someone beat me to it. Instead I'll go with Alien.
Word. |
The Right Stuff.
Anybody remember this one...the history of the space program...from Chuck Yaeger to John Glenn. I bought this for my Dad a number of years ago. |
Gladiator
My top favorite movie |

I'm going to break the rules and recommend two. 2nd recommendation is The Searchers. Awesome movie.

What can I say, I'm a rebel :D
Very tough. I love Drunken Master (not the remake).
Hey no problem Averett. You and Frankie each get a choice.........
Well on that logic, I should be able to make two more. One for Lefty, and one for Righty.
Okay, maybe not. (you know, I don't even own The Searchers. Thats just sad) |
Dr. Strangelove
"You can't fight in here, this is a war room!!" |
I have to go with This is Spinal Tap. Too many good quotes.
This is tough because there are a lot of good movies out there, but I'm going to have to go with Cinema Paradiso. Anyone who doesn't have a tear in his or her eye at the end of this one is just simply not human.
Donnie Darko
You can watch this movie 5 times and still not fully get it. I see something new everytime. |
:p In the name of Frank, I invoke my second choice right...
Once Upon A Time In The West |
Dog Soldiers. Mix British soldiers and werewolves and you get one of the best horror comedy movies ever.
Bridge on the River Kwai.

Dog Soldiers was cool, but unfortunatly a buddy of mine loved it and hyped it up sooooo much there was just no way for it to live up to it. |
Waking Life... The one movie I can honestly say is like no other and watching it again and again is sort of the point.
Donnie Darko, definately.
Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead
<---------- EMPIRE RECORDS
Hero. Fantastic movie.
The Basketball Diaries
The biggest thing for me is re-watch value. There are alot of movies I love to see on cable every so often, but it seems like if I add them to my collection they just sit there.
I'd say Life of Brian. |
Snatch. nothing else to add.
American History X - can watch it a 1000 times.
The Shawshank Redemption: I've seen it two dozen times and it never gets old.
everyone should own that movie The One, it was pretty good
If you have a nice HDTV then I highly recommend Collateral. One of the most beautiful movies ever shot.
another great movie is the matrix. its so awsome. if only it came with free french fries
Lord of the Rings Extended DVDs (all three books worth) counts as one...get that!
wow, i need to go out and get Lord of the rings extended dvd's. I saw all three of them in theaters but i wanna watch the extended versions. Too bad they don't come with free french fries
I agree with CandyLover....Fight Club is a must have to any movie collection
I would totally recommend Saw. It is more of a thriller than a horror but it sucks you in. It's such a good movie. It's quite a puzzler too.
Anything with Deniro.......Taxi Driver is a must have...or Goodfellas
Hmmm
Heat |
Braveheart
The Vanishing. Also known as Spoorloos. Creepiest movie i ever saw. DO NOT BUY the remake.
link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096163/ |
The remake was bad... changing the ending changes the film. Interestingly both versions were done by the same director.
That said, Jeff Bridges is great (it's so rare that he isn't) |
rule violation:
two films kwaidan solaris (the tarkovsky version--do not waste your time with soderberg's) |
Full Metal Jacket.
Empire Records
it would have to be Se7en
Coming To America, with Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall!
Poolhall Junkies
a great movie |
also PCU
another rule violation |
