Million Dollar Baby

After hearing all the hype regarding this film and the praises given by some friends, I was expecting to be wowed. Unfortunately, I was more than slightly disappointed, specifically by the story. I won't say more, so as not to give anything away. However, Hilary Swank did an incredible job and should receive the glory due her.

I hadn't even heard of this movie until it was nominated for an Oscar.

To be honest, I've never been all that impressed with any Clint Eastwood movie. Unforgiven was okay, I guess. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (he did that one, right?) was another "meh." The only one I was sort of impressed with was Mystic River and I think it had more to do with Penn's performance than the actual movie.

I'll probably end up watching this one as well. I enjoy watching Morgan Freeman and Hillary Swank is a fine actress, who regretably, never seems to get her due.

I was surprised at the way this film turned out. Clint seems to be on some sort of drama kick and I guess that's his thing nowadays. I don't have a problem with it as the last few he's done were actually pretty good. They kept me watching anyway. I could personally relate to this movie which is one of the reasons I liked it.

My wife drug me to see this but I'm glad she did. Swank did a hell of a job.

Knowing what little about boxing as I do, I can at least attest to the fact that the outcome of the title fight would be highly improbable today, given the media exposure and all. Perhaps that could have happened in the 30's and 40's, but not today.

The fight outcome and movie outcome was mega-disappointing. If Joe Schmo had produced, directed, and starred in this film it would have gotten no attention at all. I like Clint a lot and I'm a helluva fan, but I think this movie's attention is along the lines of The Emporer's New Clothes; people are afraid to admit they didn't like it because it's Clint, after all.

I really liked it I thought everyone did quite the job on the acting, of course like everyone else I was no thrilled with the ending. But not all movies end like Rocky or the Karate Kid

The girl I was with during this movie fainted when Hilary Swanks' nose was shifted back after being broken. Really freaked me out.

And I think is the exact problem that I and others have with the movie; the fact that the studio is promoting it as a Rocky-type film. That's the part that is deceptive and distasteful to me. I have a very liberal attitude when it comes to the Arts, and nothing in this movie offended me. However, I still didn't like it, and I feel like I was tricked into seeing something I wouldn't have normally attended if I'd known.

Don't let our comments stop you from seeing the film. If a movie is bad, I will tell someone not to see it. This is a well-made film, and Eastwood could very well win an Oscar for directing. Even though I was not pleased with some aspects of the film, I would hate for someone to not see it because of something I said. I know several people who loved it. So, see the film and make your own judgment. I would like to hear what you think.

yeah, you should still go see it Porkchop. i saw it yesterday, and it was a pretty good movie. i don't agree with some people that it was "movie of the year," but it was really good. and i also agree that Swank did a VERY good job. i've not been impressed by her work before, but she did an AWESOME job in this movie.

Insane

I just saw this today I hadn't really ready any reviews but I was actually surprised because they did kind of make it out to be a female "Rocky" type movie. In the end though I really liked that it I wasn't the typlical happy ending hero-who-overcomes great-odds type of movie (even though I guess that's open to interpretation). Hillary Swank has come a long way and Oscar or not she's gotten recognized for that. I think it's kind of cool that she actually did grow up in a trailer from nothing so in it's own way it does kinda mirror her life.

I don't know if it was best picture or not but overall both of us felt it was well worth the price of admission.

Wow, didn't realize there were so many fairy-tale ending seekers on this board. This is the best movie of the year but will probably lose out to The Aviator at the Academy Awards. Well directed, acted, and written. I actually like to be suprised once in a while and this certainly fulfilled that desire.
