Casino is missing from that list.
And the made for TV movies
Last of the Dons
Mafia Wife (the Valerie Bertinelli/Eric Roberts movie of Joe Bonnano's marriage and problems)

For a good spoof there's

My Blue Heaven

Most of these aren't what would typically be called "gangster" movies, but they're close enough in my opinion.

Training Day
The Untouchables
Knockaround Guys (real gangster movie, and decent but certainly not the best by any standards)

Does "City of God" count? It seemed rather goddfellas-ish to me.

indigochild111 11-28-2004 06:43 PM

How about Carlito's Way. If i remember correctly it was pretty decent.

For a spoof I got a kick out of the movie Mafia. Maybe that's cuz I'm Italian, and although it was a spoof, I couldn't help noticing the things that are SOOO true

i.e. Kid backtalking to Mom. Older brother smacks kid upside head and says "Don't talk to Ma that way". Mother smacks brother upside the head and says "Don't hit your brother." God, I love Italian displays of affection :)

World's King 11-28-2004 06:46 PM

Bronx Tale
Hoodlum
Casino
Boondock Saints (kind of)

Fremen 11-28-2004 07:34 PM

Innocent Blood - A vampire/mob movie.

unregistered092 11-28-2004 08:21 PM

we're missing the obvious here: MAFIA

such a good movie

It's obvious, but to ignore Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction here would be criminal (no pun intended). Also Godfather II is the peak of the trilogy for me, part 3 is not so great however. True Romance has some great mafia scenes as well with Christopher Walken. Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and the sequel Snatch feature UK mafia. I also really enjoyed the mafia comedy Made.

The Long Good Friday

Nikilidstrom 11-29-2004 03:29 PM

Godfather 2
Carlito's Way
Untouchables
King of New York
Harlem Nights
Chingoo (Friend) Korean mafia movie

Booray 11-29-2004 04:54 PM

My favorites:
Donnie Brasco
Goodfellas
Godfather I & II
Casino
Once Upon a Time in America
Carlito's Way
Untouchables
Road to Perdition
On the Waterfront
Chinatown

I think Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Training Day, and City of God were all great, but don't really strike me as mafia movies. If those were being included, then Usual Suspects and L.A. Confidential should be thrown in too.

Miller's Crossing - best Coen brothers movie, ever.
Donnie Brasco - -probably more of an undercover police movie but it's the inside the mob movie--
On the Waterfront - a classic
State of Grace - All about the Westies (the irish mob) this movie was brilliant -with an exceptional cast

----
Comedy -
Analyze This
Mickey Blue Eyes

LIMilf 12-02-2004 04:13 AM

Goodfellas- best ever
Casino - very close second
Donnie Brasco - distant third

lpj8 12-02-2004 07:27 AM

My favorite mob movie is The Untouchables,
I also liked Godfather I, Scar Face, and Casino
Although a little of topic, I like The Sopranos just as much as any movie I've seen about the mob.

Sargeman 12-02-2004 07:59 AM

Some of my other favorites that haven't been mentioned yet are:

The Warriors
The Wanderers, not too gangstery
Blood in Blood out -Prison gang type.

Fremen 12-02-2004 12:26 PM

Mobsters - with
Christian Slater as Charlie 'Lucky' Luciano, Patrick Dempsey as Meyer Lansky, Richard Grieco as Bugsy Siegel, and Costas Mandylor as Frank Costello.

Cynthetiq 12-02-2004 01:10 PM

Three hitman movies:

"Prizzi's Honor", a really good film.

"Backtrack" - because I like the cast.
This movie is sometimes edited for TV; whole scenes deleated. yuck!

"The Mechanic" a C. Bronson film. good story, good Bronson.
