Evil Dead is being remade yet again

Original Evil Dead getting remade...

The original Evil Dead writer/director Sam Raimi (Spider-Man 2) and the star of the franchise, Bruce Campbell, are teaming together again to produce a remake of the original 1981 horror classic. The pair will work on the picture through Raimi's Ghost House Pictures. Raimi will not direct the feature.

"The Evil Dead is such a special film to Sam, Rob, Bruce and horror fans that we are going to take great care in renewing this franchise," said Joe Drake from Senator Intl (who owns the worldwide rights to the franchise.) "By keeping its original formula intact and given audiences' appetite for horror, we expect that we'll have a real hit on our hands."

The original Evil Dead centers around a man named Ash (Campbell) who fights off a group of teenagers possessed by demons, and led to two sequels, Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness.

Yeah I don't have a link :hmm:

Raimi not directing? Say it isn't so!

K-Wise 11-18-2004 12:44 PM

Well they say he's always planned on making a fourth and they think thats probably why he isn't directing this one.

Asta!!

teflonian 11-18-2004 01:20 PM

This has to be a joke. I saw it on some other board too and just don't understand what they would be thinking? They already made a remake of Evil Dead... Evil Dead 2!

lol I laugh because it's true!

CSflim 11-18-2004 03:09 PM

Sweet Angry Jesus! This better be some kind of a joke!

Evil Dead 4 Starring Bruce Campbell and directed by Sam Raimi: Oh yes please!

Evil Dead remake by some worthless hack: No! You go to hell and you DIE!

grendel 11-18-2004 03:31 PM

yeah, i read about that on AICN this morning... here's their take:

personally, i don't see the point, even though i'm a huge ED series fan.

I've got the rope, where do we find Sam Raimi!

guthmund 11-18-2004 09:58 PM

Well, what better way to pay homage to a great series of movies than by re-making the same fucking movies with a different fucking director.

It makes a lot of sense....from the pocket book standpoint. Even if the new movies are utter shit and chances are they will be, they know all the cult movie fanbase is going to go out and see it. What do they care as long as they get paid, right?

I'd love to eat my words on this one, but I probably won't. :hmm:

brandon11983 11-18-2004 10:02 PM

I can't even fathom how much it will suck. You just don't mess with perfection.

docbungle 11-18-2004 10:13 PM

I look forward to seeing it and hope they do a good job. You never know.

Gortexfogg 11-21-2004 08:46 AM

I don't see how they could make the movie better...more evil? more blood? They must be possesed to even think of remaking Evil Dead...

alpha 11-21-2004 09:23 AM

I don't get people who like Evil Dead. I think it sucks.

RogueHunter65 11-21-2004 11:59 AM

You cant remake Evil Dead. Part of its majestic is the style in which it was filmed. I think that this would ruin the series. Although It would be cool to see Ash back in action...Ash is the man!

The title to this thread is "Evil Dead is being remade yet again"
was it ever remade a first time outside of different packaging/special edition type stuff?

grendel 11-24-2004 12:15 PM

well, lots of folks see ED2 as a remake/sequel all in one. that's what i figured "again" was all about.

mikey4fingaz 11-24-2004 12:27 PM

Bruce kicks major ass.. Im glad they're at least giving fans something else to look forward to. I also heard that it wasnt a remake but a sequal to the Army of Darkness, like what happens next to Ash... hope so anyways.

Stompy 11-24-2004 01:44 PM

Evil Dead 4: Army of Darkness 2

CityOfAngels 11-26-2004 12:02 AM

Hey, as long as it has Bruce Campbell and a tree that rapes people, I'm game.

It may turn out to be better than the original one you know? :)

The improvement of special effects these days should add a great deal to the horror

K-Wise 11-26-2004 03:38 AM

I too just love how technology has evolved. No more crappy looking werewolfs like on the howling movies, nope now they're much better like in American Werewolf in Paris and Van Helsing :D

Asta!!

Horror? In an Evil Dead movie? Have you seen these?! ;)

And I agree about the tree raping scene. Don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it in any movie.

wario 11-27-2004 04:59 PM

Evil Dead 2 wasn't exactly a remake of 1. I forget the details of the official story, but it goes a little something like this. It was put out by a different distributor so they didn't have the rights to show an introductory montage of what happened in part 1. So they re-did the events of part 1 leaving out the unnecessary characters within the first few minutes of the movie. The sequel actually begins when the Evil Force picks up Ash and carries him through the woods, because that's where part 1 ended.
And as for the remake, I look at it this way. George Romero has been trying to make another film in Night of the Living Dead franchise forever but has lacked the funding. Then the studios remade Dawn of the Dead. It was a hit and now Romero has the funding for his fourth Dead film. Hopefully this Evil Dead remake will yield similar results.

I will gladly eat my hat if this remake is better than the orginal.

Neither Sam or Bruce have confirmed this news themselves so this news could be another round of Internet BS just like Freddy Vs. Jason Vs Ash. We'll just have to wait and see.

Why mess with a classic?

Ask Lucas. Here's a hint: it's green and fits nicely into wallets and bank accounts.
