Yes, terrible. She apparently got a shot for her voice. Funny, she had the same problem twice on her tv show!

^ You catch Josh Groban on Oprah the other day? My mom did and Tivo'd it for me to hear it. Now he can sing. Even Tom Hanks was a little moved during the performance. Where did that guy come from? I don't know too much about the dude.

Asta!!

I was in the studio that day. We ended up retaping the song, but I don't know why. He sounded good the first time. (These singers usually have some person who nitpicks the shit out of everything and wants stuff redone).

K-Wise 10-28-2004 04:03 PM

Hmm that is unusual. Well guy did a good job.

Asta!!

Nimbletoe 10-28-2004 05:53 PM

Josh Groban is one of my favorite singers. He's an actual musician, and is really talented. Good stuff. If someone tells me Ashlee is as good a musician for him, I might really cry IRL.

K-Wise 10-28-2004 06:02 PM

I never knew he was a musician as well. What does he play? On Oprah he had someone accompany him on the piano....So I assumed he is unable to play that....or is it that he is unable to sing and play at the same time or he just prefers not to? Either way he has more talent than most.

Asta!!

Nimbletoe 10-28-2004 06:47 PM

He can and does play the piano, but he is primarily just a singer. He co-wrote a few of his songs on his newest album as well. He turned down Carnegie for a recording contract though, so again, primarily just a singer.

He was accompanied by a live pianist as well as a recording backing track (w/o vocals I may add). Like most Oprah guests, he had the lyrics in the teleprompter, but usually that's more of a safety net for the singers.

fyi - drudge is reporting that 60 minutes was there at SNL filming a story about behind the scenes at SNL that will air on Sun - they filmed the who incident from behind the stage - might be kinda interesting to watch...

Yup, I just saw a promo about it on the tube.
It showed Ashlee walking around in a huff and backstage crew members scrambling around looking to find an exit. :p

By the way Derwood, is there any way you can tell me when they're going to re-air the Josh Groban episode?

I like the way the guy carries a tune.

I wish I knew actually, because I missed it tuesday. I only wanted to see it again because I'm in one of the "bumpers" for a second. Bumpers are the 5 second tape piece that leads in out of commercials. This season, they are all pieces of people "working around the studio", so there is one of the stage manager counting down, some of the control room, and then one of me running a spotlight. I saw it the day we taped, but haven't seen it during a show yet.

Best I can tell you is that on www.oprah.com there is a link that says "This Week on Oprah" that tells you that weeks shows. They will re-run some shows during Christmas time.

Cool. I think Shania was on that show twice. Was it her most recent appearance when she was on with Dolly Parton?

And do you have any juicy backstage gossip about Shania? :p

Fremen 10-29-2004 03:43 PM

Appreciate it, Derwood. Thanks. :)

Some people is suprised that she mimes her songs... FFS every singer does it!!! nobody bitches at any other crap singer. Are people so dumb that they cant work out when a radio edit is playing.

And when she is responsible for operating the studio equipment herself then you can label this as being her fault.

Anyway, I love it when this happens cause it shows that you should always sing live.

heroquest 10-29-2004 10:04 PM

Haha, I love it. I highly dislike that tart. It serves her right, when she tries to be so "real". It really annoys me her riding on the coattails of her horrible sister. And their Dad creeps me out, how he manages every aspect of their lives, and gave Jessica a promise ring not to have sex. Ugh.

billege 10-29-2004 11:23 PM

Her complete lack of professionalism got me the most.
She showed her idiocy by jumping around like a fool.
She showed no respect to the band when she walked off. That was incredibley arrogent, and then to blame them!! The audacity of that bitch, stunned me. What incredible gall.

I blame the greater audiance though. We (whoever we are) are allowing frauds like her and her ilk to sell millions of records. The radio is overflowing with the same shit, and real musicians are harder and harder to find in the mix. The teenage girls, whoever, is buying this crap, is to blame.

If the audiance was failing to pay for this shit, by holding artists to higher standards, it would go away. Ashlee sold a shitload of albums to some group of "music appreciaters." Someone made money of her awful voice. I mean, god, to digress for a second...she sounds BAD. Really, really bad. Even on the radio, in overly massaged vocals it's clear she can not sing. But still she sells boatloads of CDs....

I think one facet of our RIAA friends current "disaster" is that the vast majority are NOT supporting fucktards like her, and that is accounting for a major loss in CD sales. I don't want her shit, and I'm not going to buy it. I don't know anyone in, or near, my age range (I'm 27) that would buy an Ashlee S album. Pop is narrowly focused on 14 year old girls. They can only buy so much.

I will buy Eminem's new album, coming out 11-16-04, that'll be the first album I've purchased in....um........ah......wait.......um......shit.....I know there was...wait, no.....but......no.....um........ahh........crud........ah.....um.......OH. no, shit...........um.....

I'm pretty sure it was Outkast's "Speakerboxx." Before that I honestly don't remember, but at some point I did buy Korn's "Take a look in the mirror." Maybe, I've bought 6 albums in the last 2 years. Maybe...

Either way,
Ahslee should be ashamed, but I don't think she'd understand why.

Nimbletoe 10-30-2004 02:24 AM

If I have a teenage girl, she will be grounded for months before she ever buys anything like that. MONTHS.

silent_jay 10-30-2004 07:39 PM

Looks like it took SNL till the first sketch of the night to make fun of Simpson, gotta love it, she will never live this down

Reese 11-01-2004 02:09 AM

Pop music is processed in the studio, edited and chopped up so no two lines are from the same take, The Pop star just lends their name and image to the to the album which was most likely also created by the recording company. They don't write the songs, they can rarely sing the song all the way through without a mistake. Is this Bad? Not exactly.

It's sad to see that a pop star with millions of dollars to buy catchy lyrics and hire producers gets more acclaim than a songwriter that sings all his own lyrics and plays his own music. I'm not saying there's no talent in the pop music business, I'm just saying the true artists aren't the people you see, it's the producers.

The pop music is totally different than any other music but it's expected to be played the same way all other music is expected to be played, live on stage. It can't be.

Flyguy 11-02-2004 12:33 AM

This is why I download my music. No way in hell am I going to give my money to these frauds.

A good example of something similar (yer gonna laugh) Milli Vanilli. Haha people loved those songs. I think I even mighta liked one of them. The real people behind the songs, actually singing and writing them never got any recognition. And since Milli were exposed have been dismissed all together. Very sad.

Asta!!

Ashlee Simpson is just another reason why pop music sucks
