From Dusk Till Dawn
Oh man. I watched this movie out of boredom (came on HBO) over the weekend. If you don't know anything about this movie, it's incredibly weird when it hits the halfway point  Went from crime drama to a vampire killing horror flick :)
George Clooney and Quentin freaked me out in this movie. They are excellent in the movie, yet kind of creepy and perverted. I don't know. Interesting movie all around. Anyone have any thoughts on this movie? |
It helps to know very little about the movie before you see it..
its a total trip when the movie 'turns' on you...the second movie sequel pretty much sucked. Anyone who likes Salma Hayek has to see the movie, and any Taratino fans should too. |
Good movie, all around. Love the crotch gun. :D
George should re-up his Seth Gecko character. |

I remember seeing that thing in El Mariachi's guitar case in Desperado  |
you cant go wrong with stripper vampires

That movie fucking sucked! I'm ashamed to say Quentin Tarantino was even associated with that movie/garbage being a fan of his. I just thought it was stupid (do I really need to explain further?)
|
I loved it. One reviewer said, "You'd have to be French to find a subtext here," and he was right. Just balls-out unashamed blood, guts, vampires, and laughs (and Cheech Marin).
Best line, from Fred Williamson near the end: "Let's kill the band." |
"Just balls-out unashamed blood, guts, vampires, and laughs (and Cheech Marin)."
Amen to that. I loved FDTD. I thought it was great, especially how it "switched". It might not have been the best movie ever, but it's a good "leave your brain at the door and have a good time". Oh, and Seth's tattoo fucking ROCKED. :) |
That crotch gun was a stupid fucking idea. It would be damn hard to hit anything with, and after the first shot, you'd be rolling on the ground moaning.
|
Quentin was just TWISTED in that movie! A definite classic in my book.
|
"Richie, would you do me a favor and eat my pussy for me... please?"
|
Great movie :) I remember the first time I watched it, did not have a clue what it was about. Freaked me out a little :) lol
Oh yea there is a Dusk till Dawn 2 and 3 but I believe they are total rubbish so have never watched them. |
absolutely ridiculous plot twist made a great movie even better.
Seth Gecko : "have you ever been to the titty twister?" Cheech: "i've driven past a couple of times" |
Entertaining, yet overwhelmingly trashy.
I liked it, it's good for what it is, and what it is is stupid and violent. I highly reccomend that if you liked Dusk till Dawn you watch Versus, which is more violent, more oddball, more twisted and Japanese too! |
Salma. Need I say more? God damn, watching this movie is worth that alone but the rest of it kicks ass too. It's a no brainer action vampire gore flick. What more can you ask for?
|
ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES OUT THERE!!
|
Dude It's a movie

It's just a popcorn flick. It's not meant to to be Citizen Kane. |
I sure liked the first half. I'm so-so on the scond half. But, I don't really like vampire movies. Which kinda sucks since my wife and I have a standing "date" with one of my co-workers every week to watch a vampire movie. FDTD was a few weeks ago. I think tonight is Interview with a Vampire...or something.

Now, I can tell you why I think the movie doesn't suck: it's got humor, it has an original idea (to a degree), there's some good acting by people that don't take themselves too seriously, some wonderful characters, and a dash or two of absurdity and randomness. These ingredients combine together to create an amusing, entertaining movie without any grand pretenses beyond pure, unbridled fun. And this is how this movie is to be judged. |

But I didn't really feel it had good humor or was even too original for that matter. Nor was the acting that great (Especially since George Clooney was in it). You are right about one thing though, it was an amusing movie. I find myself making fun of it quite often ... Just my opinion. |
I think you have to be in sort of a "Robert Rodriguez" mode to like it. Just think of QT and Rodriguez laughing about this movie, and it makes you like it. Rodriguez is hilarious if you've ever seen him talk or being interviewed. I just think it's great that we still have people out there that are willing to take risks and do unconventional stuff in movies nowadays.
If the movie kept going with the crime drama aspect, it would be....another crime drama. If the movie started with the vampire killing, it would be...another vampire movie. Now, because of the movie being an amalgamation of the two, it has a special place in film history. Definitely stands out (for different reasons). I'm glad they made it that way  |

Maybe you expected a more intelligent flick, with Tarantino dialogues and Pulp Fiction-like story line. Couple that with your obvious dislike for Clooney, and I can see why you ended up hating it. But that on its own doesn't make the movie bad. That was my point. I don't think you can get far by making fun of this movie though: nobody takes it seriously anyway (or at least, they shouldn't). |
that is always a fun movie to watch. everything by Tarantino is good though.

The story behind Dusk 'Til Dawn is that Tarrantino needed special effects/makeup effects done for Resevoir Dogs. The effects guys did it for an absurdly low amount, like $1000 and a script for a Vampire Movie. This is the script they got. Well, technically, once Tarrantino found out they had such a quality cast (quality in this case being subjective, I suppose, to you Clooney hatersout there. I personally love the fact that Fred Williams and Tom Savini were in it) he revised the script.
They then got Robert Rodriguez to direct this nuthouse film. I think one of the things I enjoyed most about it is the sudden, lurching plot change. Its like 2 different movies. Its a Tarrantino-esque gangster flick. The WHOLE movie is peppered with some of Tarrantino's most enjoyable dialogue ever. Then, they hit mexico (with the first of 3 Cheech Marin roles) and suddenly it becomes a Robert Rodriguez action horror movie. Great fun. Its deliberatley bad, deliberately tongue in cheek. Its like a present to genre fans. As much as say, Kill Bill is to grindhouse cinema fans. I will leave you with my favorite quotes: Seth: I may be a bastard, but I'm not a fucking bastard. Chet Pussy: Pussy, pussy, pussy! All pussy must go. At the Titty Twister we're slashing pussy in half! This is a pussy blow out! Make us an offer on our vast selection of pussy! We got white pussy, black pussy, Spanish pussy, yellow pussy, hot pussy, cold pussy, wet pussy, tight pussy, big pussy, bloody pussy, fat pussy, hairy pussy, smelly pussy, velvet pussy, silk pussy, Naugahyde pussy, snappin' pussy, horse pussy, dog pussy, chicken pussy, fake pussy! If we don't have it, you don't want it! Attention pussy shoppers! Take advantage of our penny pussy sale! If you buy one piece of pussy at the regular price, you get another piece of pussy of equal or lesser value for only a penny! Try and beat pussy for a penny! If you can find cheaper pussy anywhere, fuck it! Carlos : What, were they psychos, or...? Seth : Did they look like psychos? Is that what they looked like? They were vampires. Psychos do not explode when sunlight hits them, I don't give a fuck how crazy they are. and of course: Seth : So what are you, Jacob? A faithless preacher? Or a mean motherfuckin' servant of God? Jacob : I'm a mean m... m... servant of God. |
To complain about Tarantino in From Dusk Till Dawn means you really havent sat down and watched many of his movies. Tarantino follows the same formula for nearly all his stuff: Bad plot + awesome camerawork + over-the-top behaviour = money in pocket. I loved FDTD, but you have to take it the same way you take anything from Tarantino - enjoyable and dont expect something the quality of The Last Samurai.
|
From Dusk Till Dawn was one of the first scripts Tarantino ever wrote. He shopped it around for and long time and know one would bye it. After the sucsess of Reservoir Dogs in 1992 if pulled a lot of stuff from the FDTD script for the script of Natural Born Killers.
|
I remember the first time I watched it, I was a little weirded out, but I've seen it a couple more times since, I like it. That guy playing the torso-guitar is a sight I won't soon forget.
|
Is Salma's strip scene not one of the finest on the big screen? Doesn't quite measure up to the pool scene in "Showgirls", but still is burned in my memory. I can't imagine a better method of drinking tequila.
|
count me among the FDtD fans here...
|
i like the first one,but the second and the third sequels suck.
form dusk till dawn is a good movie, but it could be better;the vampires look crapy and the splatter effects, well,i thougtht they would be harder |

And for the record, I love anything that Tarantino touches. He is, in my opinion, brilliant.
