Sin City. via Apple

Not sure what to make of it...

Pacifier 09-15-2004 01:10 AM

strange but interesting.

the "sin city" movie looks very promising, I can't wait to see it.

diergray 09-15-2004 04:57 AM

Looks like it will be as f'd up as the comic. I cant wait!

yellowgowild 09-15-2004 07:26 AM

It's starting to grow on me the more I watch it. Now I'll have to pickup some of the comics to understand what it's all about.

Mr.Deflok 09-15-2004 11:26 AM

Just like the comic which is great, also, very artistic but... it doesn't seem to gel very well... and the static drawn images feel forced and out of place... I actually felt a little sick after watching the trailer for some reason... Maybe I need to watch it again. I'm sure it'll be a good film though.

I think this teaser was made for ComiCon to just give a small look at what's happening so far with the project. I don't think the drawn images will be there in the film....just a way to show how much the film looks like the comic.

gnort 09-15-2004 07:55 PM

I heard that during filming actual pages from the comic were used as script pages. That is a good sign.

MageB420666 09-15-2004 08:08 PM

when is it going to be in theatres?

thesupermikey 09-15-2004 09:22 PM

MageB420666: when is it going to be in theatres?

I think 1st quarter of 2005

Mephisto2 09-16-2004 12:22 AM

I normally dislike comic movie cross-overs, but even I have to say this looks cool.

I like the fact that the "adult nature" of the comic story doesn't seem to be PG-ized in the film. Or so I'm assuming.

They're adult comics, right?

Looks good.

Ultra-noir.

This is either going to be incredibly good or the biggest unintentional joke ever.

Right now, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt ... but Rodriguez is traditionally silly, so that scares me a bit.

True, but at least it's being co-directed with Frank Miller, and who better to interpret Frank Miller's work than Frank Miller himself.

whocarz 09-16-2004 07:59 AM

Wow. This looks bad. Hilariously bad.

moonstrucksoul 09-16-2004 08:08 AM

hmmmmmmmmmm, not sure what to think. the noir of it all looks promising.

Mr.Deflok 09-16-2004 03:24 PM

It is good to see Bruce Willis in a "hard" movie again though, I suddenly have the irresistable urge to watch Die Hard With a Vengeance...

the_marq 09-16-2004 05:17 PM

OK. First off, this is NOT a trailer.

This is a demo reel that Robert Rodriguez put together to try and convince Frank Miller to let him direct the full movie. Miller didn't want Sin City made into a movie for fear that Hollywood would fuck it up. Imagine that.

Secondly, if you are not a comic book fan or a fan of the Noir Genre in general of course you're not going to like this movie, or this demo reel for that matter.

Finally, even if you don't much care for the subject matter I'd still recommend going to this movie for the production value alone. The whole thing was (is being) shot on a virtual soundstage. No sets have been built, and all the actors are performing infront of a blue screen. This was the only way for Miller and Rodriguez to get the visual feel of the stark black and whites of the comic art.

Anyway, I think it's gonna be awesome.

peeweesbigbong 09-16-2004 07:22 PM

yea, i cant wait! i loved the comic i hope hollywierd doesnt fuck this up.

oh yea! and the_marq....i was on a movie set with rick schroder for a few weeks, he's a cool guy! Freddy prinze Jr. and Henry Winkler (the Fonz) were also on that sewt, they were assholes

thesupermikey 09-16-2004 10:18 PM

Ive got a chance to watch the clips, as well as show them it to a few people. I am speechless. Really. The Noir-ness of it is so right on. The colors, lights, music. Everything. This film as a chance to be the best piece of art to hit mainstream cinima in a long time

yellowgowild 09-16-2004 10:28 PM

Even if they fail, at least they tried. I love variety.

Baldrick 09-17-2004 04:01 AM

I've watched this clip a good dozen times, and each time I get just a little giddy... :)

Sin City. via movie-link

Not sure what to make of it...

crap. there are bewbies. Someone should have put a NSFW on the demo reel. (The msn link)

World's King 09-17-2004 11:26 AM

Wow... I have a hard on.

maximusveritas 09-18-2004 08:54 PM

I haven't read the original comic, but this looks like very interesting. Josh Hartnett and Bruce Willis almost had me turning this off, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that Clive Owen, Rosario Dawson, and Benicio Del Toro will be in it. It'll probably be hit-and-miss.

noodles 12-28-2004 11:25 PM

i can't seem to load the trailer linked in the first post, but here's a newer one:

http://www.apple.com/trailers/miramax/sin_city.html (small)
http://images.apple.com/movies/miram..._city_m480.mov (large)

don't know if its different from the originally linked one.

i really like the way this looks, full of style and personality. i hope the plot's good.
theater date: april 1, 2005

Willravel 12-28-2004 11:31 PM

Jessica Alba is my get-out-of-marrige-free woman. I won't miss this (despite JA in "Honey" *shudders*).

monkeysugar 01-01-2005 11:55 PM

Loved the comics, can't wait to see the movie.

mrklixx 01-02-2005 07:38 PM

I misread the title of this thread as "Sim City trailer", and I was thinking "How in the heck are they going to make a movie out of Sim City"

keyshawn 01-02-2005 07:47 PM

saw the actual trailer of this at work today

I was sitting in on the previews for darkness, and this came up.
This is a goldmine idea - a film-noir for the 21st century, akin what max payne did to video games; however it appeared that hollywood is going to screw it up by trying to add glam/glitz/sex.

The only thing you can screw up by adding sex is a preist! Anything else is fair game as far as I'm concerned. Besides, Sin has plenty of gritty stuff like sex.
