Most badass anime characters
 

They had a thread for the most badass character (hero or villian) in video games in Tilted Gaming, so I thought I'd start a thread for the most badass anime characters.

My top 5: (no particular order)

Kenshin (Rurouni Kenshin)- little fast dude, with sword and glowing eyes of doom

Vash the Stampede (Trigun)- super smart plant dude, with BIG gun

Gene Starwind (Outlaw Star)- all-around cool guy bad-ass fighter

Spike Spiegel (Cowboy Bebop)- fluid like water, cool demeanor, kicker of asses

Legato (Trigun)- made a guy rip his own heart out, dimented, freaky, hard core bad ass


**list is subject to change as I increase my anime library and encounter new badasses

I haven't watched enough Anime Series to fairly annoint a single someone as bad ass but the main character from Blood was pretty bad ass, as was Jubei from Ninja Scroll. Also, Motoko Kusanagi is incredible in all her incarnations, as is Batau (only in the films though).

Dunpeal- Vampire Hunter D/Bloodlust. Simply a badass.

Alucard- Hellsing Another badass Vampire.

The Pirate King from FLCL (well only because of his taste in guitars)

I can't believe you almost forgot Alucard your shmuck. Also, Legato is not a badass. He's a tool. Good call on Ein Starman Deluxe. Well, there are so many, so I'm going to try to pick ones not listed above. (Spike is there like 800 times, which he deserves to be, but I'ma go for diversity.)

Ban Mido - Getbackers - Evil eye? Most badass power ever!

Jackal - Getbackers - He has knives in his fucking body and he uses them to kill for fun. Now that's badass.

Vegeta - Dragon Ball Z - I know DBZ characters aren't typically badass, but Vegeta just is. He kills his own teammate for one thing, but more importantly, he's the only Z-Fighter who will kill the peons that are trying to kill him, even when they pose him no threat. Plus, he ate those mantis people which was just cool.

The Rock Dude - Ninja Scroll - He spilt more blood than anyone except maybe Alucard. Plus, he punched Jube through a frickin' rock.

(Was gonna put Vicious here, but he's already there.)

The Butler - Hellsing - Damn. Wires in the gloves. Slicey Dicey. Old man kickin some ass. That's badass.

I second the votes for Spike from Cowboy Bebop and Vash from Trigun.

The rock dude in Ninja Scroll was nice, but Jubei was so much nicer - "You can't be hard everywhere! /fling"

Oh, the old man was badass too.

I still love DBZ - but mainly because it's so fun and easy to watch, and kinda fun to make fun of. We love to imitate the announcer... and make lots of references to the fact that each episode is maybe 2-3 minutes of DBZ time.

"On the next episode of DRAGON BALL Zeeeeeeeeeee! Goku powers up some more!"
Krillin: "I don't know Goku! He's pretty strong!"
Vegeta: "It's IMPOSSIBLE!!!! Kakarat cannot possibly defeat me!"

That pretty much sums up 90% of the episodes.

Yoko Kanno- Cowboy Bebop; I am of the opinnion that the very popular and stylistic Cowboy Bebop series and movie are made great by the perfect music written by prodegy Yoko Kanno. I know Spike is the popular pick here, but I feel that the futuristic funk and synth jazz makes this series singularly original.

oh man you guys have mentioned some great ones... and i really do think there are so many badass characters worth mentioning... but i'll pick just one...

K-Wise came close with his suggestions from gundam wing...

but my "Most badass anime character" would have to be Heero Yuy from Gundam wing...
i mean the guy is just crazy and tough and whatnot... i mean the guy jumps from a skyscraper and just walks away... and the way he just rips relenas invitation up and threatens to kill her... he's just a bad ass...

i may be a bit partial... gundam wing was the first anime i really got into...

I'd have to second the vote for Kenshin.

I don't know much about anime, but from the little I did watch as a kid, the main name that pops into my head is Ken from Fist of the North Star.


The guy would cause nonstop, enormous, bloody messes on a post-apocalyptic Earth, could make people's heads explodes by touching them, and killed his own brother (in fact, I think he killed two of them).

Kenshin - but only when he was back killing people. He became a wuss when he decided not to kill anymore people.

Vash - again, only when he's in pissed off mode.

And yeah, DORAEMON! :lol:

I don't know about that. Isn't the ultimate achievement of a swordsman the moment when he can win without drawing his weapon?

I will have to agree with Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop (Although, Ed is my favorite. :D)

Can someone please explain to me why Vash is making the list here? Don't get me wrong, I love the character and the series, but "badass" is not a word that I would ever use to describe Vash. He cries, he whines, he has a huge sentimental streak, he has a problem with killing, well, anything. I mean, sure he's a freaking genius with a gun, but he's not a badass. At least, not in any way that I'd ever classify someone as being badass.

My votes go to Alucard and Vicious.

Watch the episode called "diablo" or whatever. The one where this guy with a huge freaking gun comes after him (not one of the gung-ho guns i don't think)

All three are fuckin badasses, and their respective shows/movies contain little to none of that campy bullshit responsible for demolishing shows like Dragon Ball and Trigun. Anime is a hard genre for me to digest because shows with unreal storylines, brilliant illustrations and action can be absolutely ruined by some asinine scene in which a character closes their eyes, smiles a huge, ridiculous smile and vomits out some the most jackass lines my ears have ever encountered. Bottom line: if you're gonna make a badass anime production...KEEP IT BADASS!!!

Absolutely. I mean, come on, this guy rounds up innocent animals from the wilderness and pits them in life-and-death battles against other captive animals. That's hardcore. And when they're not fighting for his glory, he confines them to tiny little ball-sized cells.

Theres also CLEARLY favourtism amongst the captive creatures. Thats just harsh, man.

Holy shiat people, how could this list get this long and not include Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star? Granted, hes not the best drawn or animated, but he can turn into rock, cure disease and blindness, makes people's bodies turn against them, and their heads explode!!!! If this list is truly based strictly on badassness, then he should easily make the top five. Exploding heads, people!!!!

And jumping off a skyscraper and living is nothing. How about knocking one down with one punch, then having it fall directly on your head and not even flinching? That screams badass.

I've always been a big Vegeta fan. I know he got a bit soft there against Buu, but he is badass nonetheless!

since we are reanimating dead posts, I'll throw in another one. I know the anime itself will never be in the top 500, much less top 5, but MD Geist is one badass mammajamma. He kills, thats all. No remorse, no pity, no emotion. He is the most depraved part of a pair of anime features with no redeeming quality whats so ever. He definitely deserves a space on the all time badass list.

Kenpachi Zaraki (from Bleach). I'm surprised no one has mentioned him. He has to cripple himself just so battles last long enough for him to enjoy...

She's the chick who uses a bass guitar as a weapon (well, "tool," really). She's also bat-shit crazy.

Definitely one of the most badass characters in Bleach. I always find myself riveted to the episode whenever he appears.

I think if you would ask Bateau who the biggest badass was he would say "the Major" (Major Motoko Kusanagi.) She could definitely take out Spike from cowboy bebop.

Oh I am going to have to go with Guyver III (Aka. Ageto Makashima) from the Anime series Guyver.

Haha... 6 years later. iirc, I put Bateau down because the Major's just a ghost now. Bateau remains a badass.
