Garfield too negative????

A friend of mine just took his kid to see Garfield yesterday and said that the whole movie was just to negative for some kids to see. I tried to say that "Well...that's what Garfield is! He's a narcisistic little bastard who loves to play dirty tricks, loves himself...and his lasagna. Everything else takes a back seat. He agreed somewhat but still thinks that it's too much for little kids.

Any others feel the same way?

The trailer looks awful, and mixing live-action with a cgi Garfield is a terrible idea. You can't have cartoon violence with real animals involved, and then try to sell it to kids.

maybe they use the word "negative" interchangably with "really friggin stupid" or "so unfunny that it'll put you to sleep".

Too negative? I dunno about that. It's...well, it's Garfield. Garfield is as Garfield does. I'm gonna miss the movie, though. I can't imagine how they are going to pull anything worthwhile off with this. If I wanna pay $9.00 to be disapointed...I'll go to the Sizzler.

Pffft...

Garfield's soft...

I haven't seen the movie, but if he doesn't basically outline to the kids that their lives will most likely be a long agonising struggle through the festering cesspool that is human society and that any meaning they might find is little consolation in the face of the inevitably pain and suffering they are guaranteed to experience repeatedly and endlessly until the sweet release of death then he's failing in his position as being negative...

Damnit Kostya, get over here and clean the water off my keyboard! That was funny

I guess I just don't get this whole thing with negativity.

Is it his attitude, or the whole movie? Because I have seen many negative characters for kids that have gone over quite well- Droopy, the Cowardly Lion, and many others.

I think that the way society tries to tell kids that life is always peachy and perfect is building them up to a great disappointment. I don't think that we should be negative all the time to avoid that, but I think that we should have a happy medium.

Eeyore is the BEST negative character of all time, and I love him

I agree. But I love him more

Oh, and this movie looks horrible. Poor Bill Murray.

Give that girl a tedy bear from the top shelf!! THAT, in my opinon, is the crux of the majority of the problems today.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Hmm...this brings to mind a wonderful uplifting song that I sing every now and again to put things back into perspective. You may all know it. It's called "Dust in the Wind"?

Well...I think it was just the way he conducts himself. Like he uses people to get what he wants and is occasionally violent. Like my friend said his daughter called him over to the chair she was sitting in and invited him to sit with her. When he did...she shoved him off while laughing. Now....I thought that to be funny as hell but he thought that it was the wrong message to send to little kids.

I thought the idea sucked as well. I'm putting it in my Netflix queue just to check it out but I wouldn't pay $9 to see it. One more dollar and I could get a lapdance. :D

Agreed! Man rubyee rules!

I really don't think he was negitive enough. The cartoon strip shows a really negitive son of a bitch cat that thinks the world sucks. This cat is to playful... I hate it
