Iron Chef, Battle of the Masters.
Ok did anyone else watch the battle of Flay vs. Sakai. I think the ratings by the judges were way wrong atleast for visual appeal and orignality. No I can't speak for taste but in those two fields Sakai definately should have won. Flay's stuff didn't even look visually appealing in comparison. Also what happened to the other Iron Chef in this competion. Why is Morimoto taking on Puck and Batali?

In the first battle, Flay Vs. Sakai, Sakai mentioned that Iron Chef Chinese couldn't make the trip. Sakai used shark fin in his first dish that evening as a tribute to his "good friend".
I've watched both battles so far and I've disagreed with the judges scoring in each episode. I thought the dishes prepared by Saki and Morimoto were more much more appealing visually and more original that what the american chefs put together. Is this going to become a new series on the food network? I really don't think I'm going to bother watching it after these initial international battles. The appeal of Iron Chef, at least to me, is the exotic and bizzare nature of the show. The live squid, the silly dubbed voices, the completely over the top chairman, these are the reasons I enjoyed the original Iron Chef. This new version puts me to sleep. |

Sakai got fucked over. I think Flay is a joke. By the way, did you notice the "cold sore" on Flay's mouth. That alone, it should have lost, it was fucking disgusting.

We're watching it tonight. It's okay. I think that the judges don't have a good appreciation for Japanese food. I also wonder if it's going to be a series, or just a special. I think they wouldn't have spent all the money for just these few hour specials, but it might be like a pilot. I think the American chefs vs Japanese chefs doesn't really work for a series, but the American Iron chefs versus American challengers could be cool.

Ya I think that this is going to be a new series. I think it is going to be americans vs americans. I don't think that the judging is at all fair. I think that there should have been a few judges from japan and a few from the US to make it fair. The US judges can't judge the foreign items very good. I think that the Puck decision was good but the other 2 were way wrong.

What I hate about the American judges is that they were judging by taste of the dish, not how well the chef incorporated the main ingredient, or how the chef brought out the flavor of that ingredient. It just seems that Flay hid the main ingredient of his dishes by adding lots of spices. Or maybe I just biased. Nah.

I read on the IMDB forum that the guy that played Chairman Kaga was an actor, as well, and wasn't really related to Mark Decascos. I don't know if it was true or not. Btw, I like Alton Brown, too. ![]()

Iron Chef America was the worst piece of crap I have ever seen. The judges were obiously paid off, Flay beating Sakai is a joke, and Batali beating anybody is a bigger joke. Did you see how smug he was when he presented his dishes?
They should both be impaled on the new chairmans sword, as long as he turns it on himself afterward. I LOVE the original so maybe I'm just a little partial to the REAL Iron Chefs. This show is yet another example of how we can't do things better than the japanese. And why the hell didn't they have an audience? It's called "Kitchen Stadium" for a reason.

I don't know why everyone has such a negative attitude. I thought the shows were pretty good for the first couple of episodes. I think that it will only get better as people beging to find their flow and get into a groove. I think that the Iron Chef Japanese are at a distict disadvantage on this show because American and Japanese tastes vary so greatly. None the less, I think this show has potential and I am looking forward to seeing more of it in the future. I also expect that it will allow for greater inspiration in my own kitchen because it will probably deal with more available ingredients than its Japanese counterpart

I hate the new Iron Chef. THe host sucks, flay and mario are worthless. The only thing I like on the show is Wolfgang Puck.
Kaga should show up and beat the shit out of the new host. I have no idea why food network picked ex-crow (Mark) as the host. The judges were idiots... WILL PEOPLE STOP BRINGING DEAD SOPRANOS ACTORS ONTO THEIR SHOW... If one of the judges says he hates raw food, than he is going to be biased against Japanese cooks. I find it funny that all the judges are willing to eat caviar (whale eggs) but than turn down salmon roe (more eggs). |
