Back to School remake

My first reaction to reading this was that this is so stupid. WHY REMAKE BACK TO SCHOOL??? I guess I understand though. It'll make money. Maybe not a lot of it, but some. It won't cost much to make and people like Cedric the Entertainer. It just doesn't seem old enough to remake. Oh well. Here's a news bit:

According to the Hollywood Reporter, MGM has started developing a remake of the 1986 Rodney Dangerfield classic, “Back to School” as a starring vehicle for comedian turned actor Cedric the Entertainer ("Johnson Family Vacation").

The original film, which was co-written by Dangerfield, followed the exploits of a fun-loving businessman who enrolls in college alongside his disheartened son to help him get through school.

If the remake project starts groundwork, it will fall under the MGM’s two-year, first-look deal that was recently signed by Cedric and his production company, “A Bird and a Bear Entertainment”

This December, Cedric will appear in theaters with Jim Carrey in the film, "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events." He is currently shooting MGM’s “Be Cool” with John Travolta and Uma Thurman and also has been tapped for Paramount's remake of "The Honeymooners."

I hope this makes as much money as the "Can't Buy Me Love" remake did.

Heh-heh! Nice burn, Hrothgar. ;)

Yep, this just doesn't make any sense at all.

You had the perfect cast in the last one, and it had a young, and gorgeous Terry Farrell in it.

Lotronex 04-23-2004 09:48 PM

Bah, its not that old yet.
And besides, Cedric sucks. I would much rather see Bernie Mac, or even Drew Carey could pull it off.

so, who they gonna get to play Sam Kinnison's part???

I doubt that it will be an exact "shot-by-shot" remake. Rather a remake more in the sense of Ocean's 11, where in they take the title and the lead character's name, then go off in a slightly different ( and crappier ) direction.

God, he was the best thing in the picture. But here is a
link to five guys who could play the part.
Dan Hedaya is my personal favorite.

I agree, this film is too new to be remade. Maybe they think they'll draw a black/urban audience, though, with Cedric. I agree, films get made or remade mainly because somebody with money got convinced they could make even more money by funding the film.

Hollywood has run out of ideas once again!

This can only be bad.

I completely agree. Cedrick sucks and Back To School does NOT need to be remade...just re-released.

What is with all this remakes lately? Can't anybody come up with an original story anymore?

Exactly!

Another reason why Hollyweird is out of ideas.

This is going to be a waste of money and film!!

I was refraining from posting here, but my reaction after just reading the thread title: http://www.torlian.net/pics/web_imag.../greensick.gif
after opening the thread and seeing who the star was: http://www.torlian.net/pics/web_imag...doublepuke.gif

hard to even imagine this film/story without seeing
http://www.celebrity-gallery.com/con...ll/terry12.jpg

(could not find any shots from the film on a quick GIS but I have always liked how she looked in that TOS uniform from the 30th anniversary '96 episode.)
edit: ok, I found one from 1986 with two seconds more of searching but still like that DS9 shot above better.

They better let Rodney play Dean Martin.

and judzia dax could take the sally kellerman role.

I've got a great idea... let's remake PULP FICTION!

That movie did good, right? People love it, right? Let's DO IT AGAIN!! Weee...

What's with remaking movies that aren't even 20 years old yet?
