Big Fish

I saw the movie twice in the theatre (I had told two people I'd go with them... oops) and absolutely loved it. So I just bought the book and was wondering if anyone else had read it, and, if so, what did you think? Is it comparable to the movie?
I probably won't have a chance to read it for a while, so I'm just curious to hear other people's opinions...

Well quite frankly I found the film overwrought and ultimately unsatisfying...

Little more than the same saccharine crap Disney churned out for years, without the good stuff, like talking animals and unexplained musical numbers...

Ruthless Review.

I thought it was one of the best films I saw in the past year. I wanted to see it a second time in the theater, but never got a chance. I haven't read the book.

I wept like a friggin' baby at the end of this movie. Haven't read the book because I don't want to get the pages all wet.

This was the worst movie I saw all year. Now to be fair, I didn't see Gigli, but admit that it might have been worse.

I found every scene to be far too dull and dark, and every character was unlikeable. Therefore I didn't care if the old guy died at the end or if his son grew to love him. The answers to both questions were telegraphed to the audiance early in the film due to Mr Burton's hamhanded "direction."

But that's just my opinion...yadda yadda yadda

It was slow at times, but I did enjoy it. I was very impressed by the look of the film, and it is worth paying to see.

At one point in the movie, I actually went outside to smoke...

I didn't care about the end, all the characters I couldn't have cared less about. I wanted it to end almost from the begining.

I thought it was a good movie. The imagery and symbolism was excellent. However, something was missing in the movie. Not sure what, but it just didn't "hit" me like some movies. I didn't really care about the movie 3 days after. I mean it was good, but I just didn't get any emotion out of it. The score and environments were amazing (as was Ewan McGregor's character, the younger father). The other characters didn't really wow me. Marla Singer did good.

Sadly after seeing the movie "Big Fish" writer and satirist Spalding Gray jumped off the Manhatten Ferry and committed suicide.

What does that indicate?

I usually find that the books are better than the movies though. Maybe that's because I usually read them first, though...
