The making of a movie.
After listening to the audio commentary by Eli Roth on the Cabin Fever DVD, I have become grossly interested in seeing the "making of" a movie. I should clarify this.
I'm not looking for the "how did they do that?" technical aspects of a movie. I want to see the process of makig a movie from start to finish. I want to see everything from the intitial idea for the movie, the writing process, getting the script sold, auditions, the making of the movie itself, advertising, etc.. Does anyone know of a documentary that would show this? |
Well, one thing that comes to mind is the long "making of" film that's on the Episode I - The Phantom Menace DVD. It's kind of a "fly on the wall" style documentary that shows the process from development to finish. I hated the movie itself, but the documentary is great. I can't remember the name of it. It may or may not be what you are looking for, but check it out.

HBO did a series called "Project Greenlight" which I believe showed the entire process.

Get a copy of El Mariachi/Desperado on DVD. Check out the special features. Robert Rodriguez has some excellent tips on how to make a low budget movie.

Project Greenlight is a good example. Personally since I'm in the entertainment business I didn't like it, but it does shed light on the whole process.
Production be it commercials, movies, TV, direct to video, all have about the same needs, it's just a matter of budget and caliber of staff. |
i thought all extras on both SE Lord of the Rings were excellent commentaries on filmmaking.
