Halftime Lip Synching
That was awful, just plain awful. Most of the time the artists and the music didn't even match up. The only decent part was Janet Jackson's dance routine. That was actually choreographed pretty well and synchronized.

What about her breast? :)

And what was even worse was that all the artists were singing songs that were at least 4 years old (with the exception of mr. timberlake) . What up wit dat??
And I was soOOOo hoping for the return of Mace when Pdiddy started singing. =P |

Justin claiming a "wardrobe malfunction" ROTFLMAO! |
All of the artists lip synch at the superbowl and any other of those football half-time events.
The reason is the acoustics. Anyone who has ever been to a concert in a giant stadium such as that can attest to the long delay. Since it is broadcast live, it would look odd to have the person mouthing the words and hearing them 10-seconds later. Even the national anthem is lip synched. Beyonce just did a better job at it. |

And last year, the first chick (I forget who, and don't really care) was lipsynching, while No Doubt and Sting were live. Jumping back and forth makes it even worse than having everybody lipsync. Fortunately, this will be the last MTV-directed halftime. |
It looked to me like everyone except Kid Rock and Timberlake were lip synching. I usually hate Kid Rock but I have a newfound respect for him now.
Anybody who refuses to actually sing their own song at any concert shouldn't be allowed to call themselves musicians. |
Nelly was the worst of the bunch...Damn, his mic was back down to his waist in the middle of a verse and his singing continued.
I do hope this is MTV's last shot at the half-time. MTV is the devil |

And I too am LMFAO @ him now trying to apologize for Janets breast popping out talking about it was some kind of malfunction; man whatever jt if that thing wasn't planned then why did she have the tassel on it? Y'all know y'all meant to do that...lol |
Some more research in the matter has pointed out that some performers choose to sing live, but most lip-synch at the request of the show producers. Gwen Stefani was the only one last year who chose to sing live.
Most artists and the producers feel it is just easier to lip-synch. Getting the audio feeds from a live microphone in a stadium is a nightmare. There could be feedback, the mic could go out of range and many other problems can present themselves. I'm sure you've seen and heard the problems they've had with the ref's microphone. I played in my high school's marching band and we played the halftime of the Cherry Bowl in the Pontiac Silverdome in Michigan. There was at least a 5-second delay from the field. It made it very difficult to hear what was going on. |

those are the very reasons that tech managers often times demand certain situations :) |
You know I was thinking about PMing you Cynthetiq to ask your input in this thread. In your line of work, I was sure you could shed some light into it.
It's been so long since I worked in radio that I was going strictly off memory. |
I laughed out loud when Shania Twain sang at the one before last (I think it was). It was the most awful thing I've ever seen. BLATANT lip-syncing, the whole she-bang.
|
Kid Rock did not lip-synch, but the band wasn't plugged in.
|
Aerosmith never lip-synchs. They and U2 are the only bands that have been good at a Super Bowl, IMHO.
