Best Vampire and Werewolf Movies
What do you feel are the best and/or werewolf movies?
Some I can think of are the following: Interview with a vampire, Queen of the damned, American Werewolf in Paris/London, Underworld, Wolf, John Carpenters Vampires, Lost boys, Bram Strokers Dracula and Blade I & II. |
My vote goes to the Blade movies. Snipes is such a bad ass.
Interview with the Vampire...I loved the book, didn't like the movie. Underworld was fun to watch, but I didn't get into it very much. |
My only problem with the blade movies are the vampires were far to week. I prefer vampires to be bad ass and not foiled by a silver for poking them in the hand.

Also Vimpire Hunter D is a good vampire anime movie, and Hellsing is a well made short series (13 episodes) about vampires as well. |
Watched both of those recently, good stuff.
I saw a vampire movie a while ago that stared Adrian Paul (the highlander) but i don't recall what it was called. It was a fairly good movie. Adrian Paul was a vampire cop working with other cops to try and stop some bad vampires. |
i like both Underwold and Interview with a vampire. Itīs hard to say which ones the best.
|
The Lost Boys would have to be my favorite.
|
The first Blade.
But I'm about to pop in The Lost Boys right now :) |
Please don't say Underworld. Please!
That movie was more about shooting guns in incomprehendable fight scenes than the actual lore of vampirism. Horrible movie. My vote goes to Interview. |
The best was interview. And underworld was the suckiest suck fest that ever sucked!
|
Werewolves:
Silver Bullet American Werewolf in london(paris sucks) The Howling Waxwork Monster Squad The Wolf Man Werewolf of London Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman Curse of the werewolf Dog Soldiers Vampires: Bram Stoker's Dracula Dracula (Bela Lugosi version) From Dusk Till Dawn Fright Night Nosferatu Lost Boys Salem's Lot(kid at window NUFF said!) supposedly Ginger Snaps(werewolves) and Near dark/Martin(vampires) are good but I haven't seen either. |

Was Silver Bullet the one with the kid in a wheel chair?
Also, Omega Man could be listed under Vampire movies. |
Queen of the Damned....enough said!
But I'm reading Bram Stoker's Dracula right now, and I'm not quite sure which version of the movie I should watch when I'm done with it??? |
Near dark kicks ass on principal, and in concept, and has some kick ass scenes(ok, its filed with em) but the cure for vampirism is lame, and so that drags it down.
I've heard that ginger snaps rocks |

I though Underworld was horrible. I was sooo disappointed in that movie. Man, the things they could have done with that story. Oh well.
I'm a big fan of the Bela Lugosi Dracula (1946?). Also, I think if you could take the Renfield from that movie and put it in the more recent version with Keanu Reeves you'd have a kick ass movie. Buddyhawks, good call with Vampire Hunter D. But my favorite is Lost Boys. How can you go wrong with both Cory's in a vampire movie? |
I still like Bram Strokers, the newer one, even though it does have Keanu Reeves, who isn't the greatest of serious actors, but he does a good job and the story is excellent. I like vampire movies that stay more towards realism of there species...
|
I've never actually seen any werewolf movies, but I've always been a vampire fan. :p By far the best vampire movie out there is Interview with the Vampire. All the rest are so cheesy and campy compared to the genius of that movie. Bram Stoker's Dracula was a good movie too, but I enjoyed the book a great deal more.
|
Dusk til Dawn
Bram Stokers Dracula Lost Boys TeenWolf (how you gonna forget about this classic) Monster Squad Oh yeah... Whats that one movie with Leslie Nielson(vampire)? That ones good too. |
i am reading bram strokers dracula now and i love it, but i didnt know there was a movie out based on it. is it old, new... any info would be good.
|
Bram Stoker's Dracula - 1992
Directed by Francis Ford Coppola Gary Oldman .... Dracula Winona Ryder .... Mina Murray/Elisabeta Anthony Hopkins .... Professor Abraham Van Helsing Keanu Reeves .... Jonathan Harker Actually a really good movie, one of my favs. |
After watching Lost Boys last night, I must say that it definitely has the best soundtrack of any vampire movie.
|
Love At First Bite
|
Is love at first bite that Jim Carry (before he was big) movie?
|
2 vampire movies not mentioned, but perhaps interesting to vampire film buffs -
The Addiction - http://imdb.com/title/tt0112288/ (which i have seen, and i liked it) Shadow of the Vampire - http://imdb.com/title/tt0189998/ been on my 'to watch' list for a while.. |
I Was a Teenage Werewolf - a pretty good werewolf movie. It has all that teenage angst and such thrown in too. It's a little different than your average werewolf movie, but still interesting.
Fright Night - a great vampire flick. The plot, special effects and Roddy McDowall as the old vampire hunter make the movie work well. This is probably one of my favorite color vampire movies. Shadow of the Vampire - an interesting take on vampires and the movies they're in. Willem Dafoe plays the vampire and does an awesome job. It's not the greatest, but different enough to be really good. |
Monster Squad and Fright Night....ahhh, the memories. :D
Anyways, vote goes for Interview or Queen of the Damned. |
I thought Ginger Snaps would have got a mention by now.
I really liked its different take on the werewolf transformation |
The one with Jim Carrey is called Once Bitten...I think...
|
I've only seen underworld. And while it was fun to watch, the storyline had such great potential that they could have tapped into, but diddn't. Perhaps they will, since they ended it leaving room for a sequel, but since sequels are so often worse than the original, I doubt it.

Great flic, I got it on DVD myself. Fearrrrr the Cories! Sort of on topic: has anyone else checked out the Van Helsing trailer? It's a vampire/werewolf/other scary shit movie starring Hugh Jackman. I think it looks pretty damn sweet. LINK |

Nobody else has seen Innocent Blood?
|
Innocent blood... good stuff.
Underworld seemed like a rip off of everything white wolf, entertaining though. Bram Stoker's Dracula was cool, but after watching it again 10 years later, it was laugh out loud funny and cheesy. I still really like it. Now this might just be nostalgia, but I really liked a short-lived Aaron Spelling TV series, Kindred the Embraced. It was from the White Wolf stuff and probably really cheesy. I just remember it having a rediculously hot woman in it or at least she seemed that way to my 14 year old self. |
How about the movie Nosferatu? It's what the flick Shadow of a vampire was based on. The original movie was pretty good, if you like german silent film that is...
|
Yup, like mentioned above, Innocent Blood was pretty good. Funny, sexy, and a little scary, too.
I also like a comedic vampire movie called "My Best Friend Is a Vampire". Let's not forget "Vampire In Brooklyn". I quite liked it. |
i just did an IMDB search on the film that I mentioned (Love At First Bite). there are two, one a 1950 3 Stooges flick and the other a 1979 vampire spoof. I meant the second:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079489/ very amusing back in the day |

Underworld....ehh, i thought it pretty much sucked, but i did watch it.
Queen of the Damned .. Good music but thats about it. Interview with a Vampire...personally, i didn't find the plot very interesting, and i even found myself bored with it at times. Definately better than QotD or Underworld. Blade - the first one was fun, the second was just kinda dumb. I think we wil have THE best one coming out soon. VanHellsing looks to be badass. Specially since, in my opinion, pretty much all the vampire/werewolf movies so far have been on the whole - crap. |
I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer with Kristy Swanson, I know it is cheesy but I always watch it if I see it on. For serious vampire movies I like Interview with a Vampire. The only werewolf movie I can remember seeing is the Teen Wolf thing with Michael J. Fox, and I love that movie also.

I really wish White Wolf would get with a good film company and make a movie, their aspects on Vampires and Werewolves look like they would be really cool on the big screen.
A Link to the new Van Helsing movie trailer for everyone: http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/van_helsing/ Wolverine is Van Helsing lol |
Innocent Blood - http://www.imdb.com
Near Dark - http://www.imdb.com/ Martin - http://www.imdb.com The Addiciton - http://www.imdb.com/ Cronos - http://www.imdb.com The Hunger - http://www.imdb.com Nadja - http://www.imdb.com - Ok I don't love this one but I love pixelvision... Fright Night - http://www.imdb.com/ The Lost Boys - http://www.imdb.com Vampire's Kiss - http://www.imdb.com Omega Man - http://www.imdb.com I'm not all that big on Werewolf films... As for Underworld... I agree with most here that the film was a mess. A very nice to look at mess but the story just missed the mark. After it was over I just kept saying, if only... A shame. |
Van Helsing looks like it has tons of potential, but it also looks like one of those flics that could easily be complete crap, too. Although I was one of the few people in the country who didn't have a problem with League Of Extrordinary Gentlemen. Wasn't a great movie, but it didn't deserve the critical shit canning it got either. If Van Helsing has the same style, with maybe a little harder edge, it should be alright.
And for the record, Underworld was completely underwelming. It was pretty built up for so long, that when I actually saw it, I knew in the first few minutes that is was going to be extremely ordinary. |
I like Innocent Blood, Lost Boys, Bram's Dracula, Blade...
i'm entertained by most of the vamp movies... |
Lost Boys, Interview with a Vampire, Bram's Dracula, The Hunger and Blade. In that order.
|
Dont forget
Roman Polanski's "Dance of the Vampires" not scary but very well done. |
Interview With A Vampire
Shadow of the Vampire Salem's Lot and Blacula  |
In my own library,
Buffy, John Carpenter's Vampires Fright Night Shadow of the Vampire To my shame, I haven't seen Lost Boys or Interview. To my credit, I was at the Premier of Bram Stoker's Dracula. I'm sorry, that movie sucked. And F.F. Copola is short. And wierd. |

Please... don't mention Buffy the TV series... I am still in withdraw.
Best show in ages. |
When I think of great vampire flicks I think of 2 things.
1. The Lost Boys.....Overall a kickass vampire movie. Good one-liners, nice gore, great soundtrack, the vampires look good, and its funny. Can't wait to see that special edition DVD that was mentioned earlier. 2. Just about EVERY Christopher Lee (Thats him over there in my avatar)/Hammer collaborations . The Horror of Dracula Dracula Prince of Darkness Dracula Has Risen From The Grave The Scars of Dracula Dracula A.D. Christopher Lee was the best Dracula EVER! other good/decent/funny/good because they sucked (no pun intended) vampire movies: Fright Night Salem's Lot Bram Stoker's Dracula Once Bitten Near Dark Shadow of the Vampire Nosferatu Vampire Hunter D Interview Dracula 2000 (I'm embarrassed to say, but this fell into the decent category for me) John Carpenter's Vampires My Best Friend is a Vampire Buffy the Vampire Slayer |
I'm not a big fan of werewolf movies, there haven't been to many good ones that I can remember. But if you watch no other see Ginger Snaps. By far the best werewolf movie I've ever seen and it actually manages to be quite frightening. Plus it actually has multiple levels so it's not just some lame gore flick.
|
must agree with "Jim Kata" although beeing into "Christopher Lee" gives away our ages :)
|
Well Jonah, I'm only 27 but was lucky enough to have an uncle who thought that showing me Christopher Lee's Dracula movies at the tender age of 6 was a good idea...and you know what....it was!
well...my parents might disagree with that considering I spent many a nights sleeping in their room for quite some time after that. |
I enjoyed parts of Underworld. It had so much potential! One of the things that underwhelmed me the most was Spoiler: the hybrid lycan-vampire. He just didn't really look like much to be afraid of. Hopefully if they do make a second flick, they can find a director that pics up the pace and story more.
|
The only two good parts in Underworld were when she jumps down the building. And when she walks into the house/mansion and they have that great ass shot.
