d'oh i don't get showtime but i must admit that it looks like a good show. i like television with truth to it. "L" for Lesbian or Love?
|
I'm curious what REAL lesbians think about this show. I mean, look at the cast. It's like Baywatch turned loose on each other. I think it's a laugh to try and sell this show as a poignant drama about life from a lesbian perspective. Now if they're pushing it as a hey-fellas-check-out-the-hotties-kissing show, then I'd believe it.

How come there's a lone guy up there, if the show is about lesbians?
|
Maybe s/he a women
|
Looks like a lame "Sex In The City" clone.
|
nipple confidence... that's what makes me want to watch the show

Here's a lesbian site that includes a review of the show
http://www.afterellen.com/TV/thelword.html I bet you can even get this website in Europe. |
My favorite quote from that previous link...

Well, who knows? My guess is this is going to become another closet success mostly due to the large numbers of men tuning in. :) |
Is it hot or not.
Well, I haven't seen the preview, and won't see anything about it until it is purchased by one of the free to air networks in Australia and touted as 'the new hit show from America', but nevertheless I will go with a solid no. This is of course a guess, but I believe that the gigantic intellectual void which has slowly swallowed the world of television much like the mysterious 'emptiness' which ate away at the world in 'The Neverending Story II' makes any new show about a 100/1 shot at being watchable. The most irritating thing being that despite 'The L Word' being the television equivilent of a striptease by Jar Jar Binks to the musical stylings of Hanson, it will still be overwhelmingly popular because 'boobies' will be gratuitously flashed onscreen for at least 5 out of every 10 minutes... If the Simpsons weren't on I think I'd be using my TV as an aquarium now, far more entertaining than anything Jerry Bruckheimer can think up. |
looks like it might get alot of male viewers :)

Its a Sex and the City for both men and women. Brilliant.
Women will like it because its juicy and gossipy and sexy and features strong female characters. Men will like it because its lesbians. The good-lookin' kind. These people are marketing geniouses. |
None of the lesbians I've seen in real life look anything like that.
Think more along the lines of Rosie O'Donnell. With more facial hair. |

Girl on girl = ratings.
|
Looks like a good show, as long as they don't start telling me how to remodel my kitchen or something.
|
Not impressed. Unless they get naked every show I'm not gonna watch.
|
Damn, us Canucks aren't allowed to visit the link either. Too bad, because with that gaggle of beauties in the photo, I'm oddly interested in the show now... :)

Okay I finally saw this. It was Okay. I will tune in again. It was kinda like an R rated Lifetime drama about lesbians. The part where the wife cheated on her husband was kind of disturbing because I had an ex-girlfriend who thought it was okay to cheat on me with another girl... Anyways you non-united states people can see the website even though those fuckers at showtime are blocking your IP... here is a link that routes their site through an anonymous proxy: http://anon.free.anonymizer.com/http.../lword/home.do |
Feh. More reality junk. And why do they have to include some stupid guy in the show? To prove these women can still talk to men? Puh-leeze.
END REALITY SHOWS NOW! GIVE US GOOD OLD FASHIONED UNREALITY SHOWS! |
Watched the premeir last nite. Both my wife and I really liked it. Will probably become one of our regular shows to watch. I'll admit I was drawn by the frequent lesbian sex scenes and nudity but the characters seem really good and hopefully they will develope with the stories.
|
The guy in the photo looks PISSED!
|
The second one was a little better. It focus's more on lesbian "gaydar" and even shows the downsides to female "stalkers".
I like it more than the Sopranos. |

It's a good ol' fashioned drama.:D My wife and I both really like this show. Showtime really does have some pretty good original series. Really, we can't wait for the return of Family Business this week! |
Wow never seen a site that wouldn't let me access it because of where I live, that's crap :\

First shows are always introducing characters.
I like Alicia (the journalist, bottom row right on the image in the thread opener). From what I can tell of the first two episodes, she more like me than any of the others. I had a 10-year relationship with a woman a lot like Bette personality-wise but without race issues. The only character I don't know someone who is like that is the tennis player (Dana?). All the rest seems realistic so far, including the stalker bitch. |
Whoa, they introduced the "Lesbian Identified Man"... Perhaps I'm one of those. (Or maybe I like sports too much.)
