Cabin Fever

I just watched this movie with my roomate... obviously a low budget movie with mediocre acting, and cliche's up the yang...
but... fuck... that movie screwed me up...
it knew it was cheesy, and ran with it.. right off a cliff and into some twisted shocker world... I even had dreams later that night! movies never do that to me...

Top star suggestion...

anyone else surprised by how "good" this shitty movie ended up being? or am I just crazy?

mattborn 01-15-2004 10:44 AM

Man, same thing with me. I thought it was messed up, but the ending really surprised me.

Kaos 01-18-2004 05:50 PM

I went to the theatre with a little bit of reluctance to see this movie. (It was my friend's turn to choose the flick we saw).

I was quite surprised and thought it was a really good horror film done up like the old cliched horror films.

da^cheat 01-19-2004 02:06 AM

theres always some naked chick in a horror film that makes u just wanna watch that *bit* again even though the film was crap

Hrothgar 01-19-2004 02:27 AM

It's next in my Netflix queue so I'll be seeing it Tuesday probably. Can't wait.

Vilkata 01-19-2004 03:12 AM

Hopefully I get a chance to rent it this weekend. I was dying to see it when it was released to theatres, but none of my friends or my girlfriend would go with me. :(

nonono 01-19-2004 12:49 PM

saw it when it came out. went in knowing little about it. i somewhat enjoyed it but some of the humor was like...i dont know seemed like they were trying too hard. id say its a good movie if you want to have a fun time, but not to get scared. i liked the detroit rock city people in it though.

Reese 01-19-2004 05:36 PM

I got it, open range and once upon a time in mexico today, and I haven't got to watch any of them yet. Cabin fever was the last on my list to watch but I think I'll watch it before open range. It if sucks I'm blaming you guys :)

I'll edit this post once I've watched it.

pta200 01-19-2004 07:17 PM

I thought it was crap. I walked out of the theater a little over an hour into it.

theguyondacouch 01-19-2004 09:23 PM

Loved it! Probably one of the better horror movies Ive ever seen. It was so cliche, it was almost original, if you know what I mean.(don't worry, I don't either lol)

Vilkata 01-26-2004 09:45 AM

just got done watching it. I liked it. The ending had me cracking up.

Pellaz 01-26-2004 10:34 AM

I'll break with the popular opinion, and come out and say I hated it. It was full of bad cliches done badly, horrible, horrible editing, could never decide what type of horror movie it was supposed to be, devoid of even a pseudo jump or moment of suspense, borrowed heavily from other movies and at least one classic campfire story, and did so poorly. The only sastisfying point was toward the end where Spoiler: the only character to survive that we were made to hate from the get-go is riddled full of bullet holes, the joke at the end felt like it was the whole reason they made the movie, and they carried on with it far to long for and satisfaction to be derived from it. And this is coming from someone who LOVES bad horror movies.

meepa 01-26-2004 03:21 PM

It's worth it for the retarded matrix-style hand-biting kung-foo kid. Actual comedy movies don't make me laugh like that did!

Hrothgar 01-29-2004 07:30 PM

PANCAKES!!!!!

DonnieBoy 04-24-2004 02:22 PM

I rented this movie last nite and loved it. I went in with the frame of mind that it was gonna be a cheesy 80's camp/slasher horror movie and was not disappointed... loved the dorky deputy was that the kid from third rock from the sun?

DB

Jonnypops 04-24-2004 07:50 PM

yeah i agree pulpmind

brinkn1 04-24-2004 08:22 PM

I believe that was Cabin Boy.

EbolaVirus 04-25-2004 06:59 AM

The movie was not that great or even scarry. I did not understand the little kid and his kung fu moves or whatever he did. I know he was sick, but still, what the hell was that?

gorilla 04-25-2004 11:57 AM

I thought the movie sucked incredibly, the only parts that are worth your time is the kung-fu weird kid and when the douche-bag gets plastered with bullets at the end... I was extremely disappointed with this movie

Oh yeah. My bad.

Chris Elliot's bad too.

Porkchop 04-26-2004 11:50 PM

I was so lookin forward to this movie. Bought on dvd have to say was a little dissapointed in it. Not bad but a few scenes totally spoilt the movie.

iamtheone 04-27-2004 05:54 AM

I on the other hand, (a serious horror fan) thought this movie was alright. It was a bit different than your typical slash em flick. I mean come on, a hot chic in the tub shaving her skin off her legs. Can't get no better than that!

Stompy 04-27-2004 08:42 AM

The previews make it look REALLY stupid and not worth seeing at all, but I'll probably check it out at some point in the near future just because I hear so many mixed reviews.

Some horror fanatics say it's good, some horror fanatics say it's bad... hard to make a judgement from that.

Isn't the movie about some kind of virus or disease? The premise just sounds... blah.

k1ng 04-27-2004 09:35 AM

I loved this movie. I must recommend that you guys watch it with the director's commentary. I really enjoyed the commentary, but I must say that I was beginning to wonder if Eli Roth was even watching the movie during the commentary because he doesnt make refrences to the scenes being shown until much later in the movie. The first half of the commentary is about the whole process of getting the movie made - it's very interesting.

animosity 04-27-2004 11:02 AM

i agree with k1ng... i need to see the commentary though.

iamtheone 04-27-2004 11:57 AM

Yeah, the movie starts out with a bunch of kids heading out to the cabin for the weekend. Only to find out that there is a small problem. That problem is the water source. It is contamanated with a skin eating disease. Yeah.... This is pretty much the plot of the movie. The breakup of the group as some start to get sick reminds me of the Thing. There are truley some funny parts in this movie. The mother fucker that shoots everything in site. The lil freak kids who loves them pancakes!

Go get it, it is worth the rent. (and the laughs)

StormBerlin 05-05-2004 09:45 PM

I had really high expectations when I went to see it (like it really being about Cabin Fever, the psychosis), so I was extremely dissapointed. I thought it was cheesy and overrated.

Charlatan 07-08-2004 06:34 AM

I am a huge fan of Horror films... given the hype surrounding this film I had certain expectations going in... while there were definately some nice set pieces the film as a whole... SUCKED.

I can't believe this film made the kind of money it did. It felt like it was being made up as they were filming it (probably was).

The sad thing is that it had a lot of potential. What it required was the imput of someone like Vincenzo Nataly (he wrote and directed Cube). Vincenzo knows how to play the paranoia angle just right...

Rdr4evr 07-08-2004 09:56 AM

I love horror films, but this is easily one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my life. Over doing bad comedy in horror movies ruins it for me. A little humor is fine, but when it is over done, and over done badly, forget it. Jason X is another perfect example of this.

CSflim 07-08-2004 01:16 PM

For me, this move was the epitome of 'Meh;.

The whole film just screams cliche, but then again, you never felt like it was trying to be original, rather it was harking back to the good old days of horror.

I had read an interview with Eli Roth before seeing this movie, and agreed with him. Horror has a bad image at the moment. It seems that being a "horror" movie isn't enough these days, you have to be a "psychological thriller". And many other horror films are just far too tame, as it appears that they have to be aimed at a wider audience.

Luckily it seems that this is starting to change, with three "good-old-fashioned" horror movies released recently; Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dawn of the Dead and Cabin Fever.

It's just a pity that two out of these three are remakes, and the other might as well have been.

How about Wrong Turn, FvsJ, Jeepers Creepers, Joy Ride, etc. I think these qualify as above average recent horror movies.

Cynthetiq 08-11-2004 09:05 AM

jsut watched it last night....

Spoiler: when he fell into the reservoir onto the marshmellow burnt body... I almost lost my cookies...

not many movies move me to that... and I do like bad movies from Bad Taste to Evil Dead.

I liked the homages that Eli put into the film and I also liked the fact that he himself had some sort of Spoiler: sking disease when he lived on a horse farm in Iceland. That was some of his inspiration for the movie.

and the girl who said, "know the plane is going down and you just want to fuck the person next to you..." yeah... that's a good way to go out.

Nikilidstrom 08-11-2004 02:35 PM

I saw this movie awhile ago, and it definitely confirms the decline of American horror cinema. It was quite possibly the biggest steaming pile of crap on celluloid, only possibly topped by another crapfest, House Of 1000 Corpses. The humor was lame, the horror was non-existant, and the acting was after-school special quality.

I think the horror movie scene has sunk pretty low when we allow ourselves to consider craptacular films like Freddy Vs Jason, Joy Ride, and Jeepers Creepers as above average.

And I swear, the day I hear the Scream series referred to as American Horror Classics, is the day I stop watching Hollywood Horror all together.

Come on man, what is wrong with FVJ, Joy Ride and Jeepers, they are quality horror films. Atleast they are not trying to be bad comedies. If you are saying they suck as in they are not scary, I agree. I dont think any movie is scary anymore, not that I really have, aside from exorcist.

whocarz 08-12-2004 12:33 AM

This movie blew ass, but it was great to laugh at with friends. It also has one of the greatest lines in cinematic history. "Yes it is, you fucking slut!" My buddies and I still yell this at each other on occasion.

I'm saying that as movies, horror or otherwise, they were flaming piles of crap. The only one that had anything even mildly interesting in it was Freddy Vs Jason, and that was to see two horror movie icons go at it. And that got really old , really quick. Horror movies have been relegated to dumping grounds for the hot & handsome, yet tragically untalented, young actors trying to break into "the biz". Its also where alot of first time directors and writers are sent by studios to pay their dues before being aloud to work on real projects. And Cabin Fever was not only no exception to this rule, it was a blaring beacon of the slapdash nature which is currently inherent in the genre.

Rdr4evr 08-13-2004 01:07 PM

Yeah, I understand what you are saying about hot & handsome "actors" who are very untalented and quite annoying. Unfortunately, America is obsessed with these so called actors which is actually very sad. Most people are interested in what J hoe had for lunch rather than IMPORTANT world events.

Let me ask you a question: What are some of your favirote HORROR movies? Im curious as to what you dont find "flaming piles of crap".

Esoteric 08-13-2004 01:50 PM

One of the worst movies I've ever seen.
