The Family Guy to return to FOXTV
This is the greatest news ever! Now lets all join hands and thank Jeebus for this bounty of hilarity. Yes, I know they are only "considering" it right now, but its a step in the right direction.
http://66.118.152.6/news.php?id=2374 Family Guy Making a Come Back to TV? Source: USA Today Tuesday, November 18, 2003 20th Century Fox is considering a plan to resume production of Family Guy, a sometimes crude animated comedy that the Fox network took off the air more than 18 months ago. As many as 35 new episodes could return in January 2005, marking the first time that a canceled series has been revived based on strong DVD demand and ratings in syndication. Fox Television Entertainment Group chairman Sandy Grushow said a decision is expected soon and called the series a late-blooming phenomenon that may have aired before its time. A DVD set of the show's first 28 episodes released in April has sold nearly 1 million copies, making it this year's top-selling TV show and the No. 4 television title ever. A second collection, of 22 episodes, has sold 520,000 copies. And the series is Cartoon Network's most popular among adults. The series was created by Seth MacFarlane, who wrote scripts, drew characters, provided voices and infused the show with rapid-fire sight gags. But ratings faded, and the show ended with a whimper early last year. |
Alright.. I have some friends who would be very excited about this possibility.
|
That would simply put...rule.
|
This is great news. I just purchased the DVD set of the first three seasons. How many seasons has it run so far? I never used to watch the show when it was on, now I can't get enough.
|
Wow, that sounds like great news. Fox needs to realise that their shows get crappy rating because they keep moving them around so much, not because no one likes it. Seriously, what is the point of putting a show on a different night every season? I'm still bitter Futurama got cancelled too.
Conclamo, if you have both DVD sets, you have every episode they made, including one that never aired. |
I sure hope the show returns. I'm a bit hesitant to get all excited though, cause the execs are "considering" this. Sure hope they don't chicken out.

I think I would have to get cable if Family Guy hit the airwaves again. My antenna reception just wouldn't cut the mustard.
"Show me potato salad!" |
One question though, if they renew the show are they going to have the same voice actors? Missing the main voice actors would be bad :(
|
Well, Seth MacFarlane did several of the main voices, so he would be back for sure. And I wouldn't think it would be too difficult to get the woman who played Lois back, since she participated in the commentary, as did Chris. They must still have some interest in the show.
|
This has to be some of the greatest news ever! I hope these Fox execs are smarter than the ones that cancelled the show in the first place...
|
hopefully this will create a trickle down effect and bring back andy richter controls the universe. they can put family guy and andy back to back on wednesdays and just freaking whoop some ratings ass.

Volume 1 = Season 1, Season 2 Volume 2 = Season 3, plus bonus never before seen episode (Got'em) |
great news
now lets hope the same happens with Firefly Also, lets hope Family Guy gets a decent time slot |
i heard its going to be on comedy central this time. that would be better with less censoring and all and maybe a decent time slot.
|
Cartoon Network might be picking it up. From all the news sources I've read that's the alternative. Haven't heard anything about Comedy Central.
|
If they keep it on FOX more people would probably watch it (people with no cable).
As long as they keep it in a decent timeslot and leave it there, it should be fine and then people would get used to it. (e.g. "Hey its Tuesday night, FamilyGuy is on") |
Wow, that would RULE! Family Guy is so funny.
|
Very Cool!
As Mr. Burns would say, "Excellent"
First Opus the penguin makes his return in the comics and now, more Family Guy? Good God, life is sweet. Cancel my appointment with the Grim Reaper, I'm sticking around! |

Sweet, been waiting for a long time........
|
Wow. This is quite a month for comebacks.
Invader Zim DvD set, New Opus, and now.. possible new Family Guy? Like Mana from Heaven |
Family Guy returns to FOX 36 new episodes!
Mike Reiss a writer on the simpsons spoke at my college today, and confirmed that Family Guy will be returning to FOX soon, for 36 NEW episodes. Looks like they finally understand how much we all love this show! I think out internet pleads actually paid off! If you don’t believe me, im sure there is more proof on the internet out there. It was nice to hear this confirmed though, by a FOX writer.
|
Here is an article featuring an interview with Seth MacFarlane talking about the return of Family Guy (though he doesn't officially confirm it) and a new pilot he's working on called "American Dad." I'm sure some of you will be interested in it.
http://www.flakmag.com/features/macfarlane.html It should be noted that it says confirmation will come within a week or so, and this article was from November 30. |
Good God, please spare us.
I hate that show! Strange, as I'm an avid Simpsons and King of the Hill fan. Mr Mephisto |
2005 doesn't seem all that soon to me. Still, I'll take what I can get. That show was solid.
|
Awesome! Fox finally has their heads on straight. This is just too great of news...

King of the Hill is the best show if ya ask me. It's not the funniest, but it's the best. One thing I can give Family Guy credit for: when it's funny, it's damned funny. It's easily the funniest cartoon I've ever seen. I'm just saying that the funny parts aren't as frequent as everyone says. -Lasereth |
I just hope it doesnt come back as a watered down version of its former self. When shows take a break like that they have neither momentum or freshness on their side.
|

Internet opinion polls are pretty much useless, but then again, that's just my "internet opinion." |

i personaly am very excited and think the show is great. |
Excellent.
Best TV news I've heard in a long time! |
WOOOT. I don't know what else to say other than that rules! I will be watching that religously.
|
The need to put it on Comedy Central. End of story.
Have a South Park/Family Guy block. That would be sweet! |
That woudl be sweet but thne you would miss out on viewers without cable.
|
Oh man I hope you're telling the truth... I love Family Guy. And to the guy that thinks King of the Hill is funnier than it... WTH are you smoking?? My opinion, King of the Hill is one of the worst shows I've ever seen. It's like watching a real hick family... it's just... depressing. Not funny at all! But then again, opinions are like assholes...

Good deal I really liked the family guy and caught it regurally on Adult Swim, I hope it comes off as good as the original.

How can you possibly sell a TV show you cancelled so many years ago? Mention how you're going to have new episodes of the 7th best selling DVD set of all time. That will open a lot of wallets. Put it next to another high rating Fox show (say, before Simpsons and Bernie Mac) and you got yourself a money maker. |
I guess Fox needed to bring something in now that the Simpsons sucks so much. I figured they'd have to do something of the sort.
|
I just hope that it comes back the same ol' Family Guy. I hope it doesn't take a sudden "Simpsons" turn. Any Simpsons's fans know what I'm talking about.

I haven't had a chance to watch much new Simpsons lately, but the episodes I have gotten to watch were still good. I think you've just started to take the show for granted.
I'm glad that Family Guy is coming back and that it's not going to be on cable. |
I used to be really skeptic of the Family Guy, being a Simpsons fan back when the episodes originally aired. Thankfully I bought the DVD sets and I can't believe how funny that show is. It falls in the same genre as The Simpsons but the two shows are different enough. I've been watching two or three episodes a day since I got the boxed sets and every episode has produced more laughter then I've ever seen in my life.
I can't wait for more. Its the perfect blend of high brow and low brow humor. Which is great, I don't care how smart I get some day, I never want to forget how funny "poo" is. |

yay for discussion
Family Guy will still remain my favorite show. I love the subtle humor. Sometimes there are parts that the initiated cannot enjoy because they are so obviously stupid, but that's the beauty of it. The more of a fan you are, the more you can get out of the show. As far as comparison to other shows.. I've always praised King of the Kill for it's writing quality, but it's a slower show with a different focus, it's not in the same category. |
<3 Family Guy so much
|
family guy is freakin hilarous i love that show.. i try to watch it as much as i can.. can t wait till they figure this out!!
|
If this turns out to be false, I'm going to be a sad panda bear... I love the Family Guy, my roommate got a nice rip of all of the seasons, great shows. I loved the unaired episode that came cartoon network.
Peter: "Is there anything you people won't do? Oh well, besides manual labor." |
I ve been a family guy fan ever since the very first epsode. It is certainly good news that they are coming back.
Btw, why do people like King of the Hill? What's interesting about red neck phycology that drives people to watch a 20 min show about nearly nothing. One more question, do the poeple who like King of the Hill also like Friends? |
People like King of the Hill because it's funny. It's not funny because they crack jokes every other line, it's funny because the characters are funny. It's fun to watch Hank freak out everytime Bobby does something he doesn't approve of. It's fun to watch Peggy try to help Hank with his personal problems when he would rather keep them bottled up. It's not slapstick or gag after gag. They don't exagerate to extremes to make situations funnier. As long as you're familiar with the characters, they don't have to.
And no, I can't stand Friends. |

Family Guy is hilarious! I love that show, and I still haven't seen all of the episodes in syndication, but the ones that I have seen are amazing. It is the best comedic cartoon ever. There are times when I laugh so hard that it hurts, and it is the best feeling in the world. I look forward to 36 episodes more of this.
|
Family Guy is different from the other animated shows in that it's humor pushes the limit and is more controversial.
You defiantly have to be very cultured (or a TV freak) to get all of the jokes. Many times I will be watching and not get a joke since I don't know about the person they're making fun of. |

I got all tingly when I saw this news!!! 36 episodes thats almost 2 seasons of Family Guy! I can't wait till they bring my favorite TV show back!
|
Has this been confirmed by any of the actual tv stations?
|
I got the first 2 seasons of the family guy on DVD for christmas. It would be great if this news turned out to be for real. Hilarious show.
|
Kick ass! that is the best show ever! Like others have said there are jokes that not everyone gets. Also, living in RI You get all the little jikes that people in california might not. And yes, RI is similair to that.
|
Family Guy is one of the funniest shows on TV period as far as I'm concerned!
|
I think it's very difficult to deny that when Family Guy is on, it's hilarious. When it's not, it can be painful. There are painful episodes. However, some episodes, and in my opinion the majority of episodes, are just hilarious the whole way through. I do agree with Lasereth though, in that some things that aren't meant to be funny get laughs for no reason whatsoever, just because of viewer ignorance. That's why it's generally better to watch alone.
My own opinion is that Family Guy is one of the best shows out there. When it's funny, it's by far the funniest show on television, and I'd like someone to show me a funnier one. I love the flashback sequences in the show, that's something no show has ever done, and it's brilliant. It's a perfect way to insert gags into the plot that normally wouldn't belong there. And 99% of the time, those gags are hilarious. Personally, however, Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Sealab2021 are my favorite shows. Part of what I love about them is that I'm not flooded all the time with a billion people quoting them. They're much more select in their audience because they just don't fit many peoples' sense of humor. But when they do fit your sense of humor, it's like they were created for you, and I love that feeling in a show. |
From what I've heard, they will come out with a new season January 2005. This is based on the DVD sales and the ratings of adult swim (they were beating out leno and letterman). I cannot wait.

I never really watched Family Guy until it was on Cartoon Network. Sadly, I missed a lot of great comedy. However, all is changed now that I got all three seasons on DVD for Christmas. I don't know how I lived without watching this show, it is simple hysterical.
I'm glad that the show is coming back with new episodes I'll have to pay more attention and watch it this time. |
as long as they dont over hype it... everyones gonna say how fucking good the show is and if its not as funny as before, it will die quickly. BUT I WILL BE WATCHING IT!!!! JUST LIKE THE SIMPSONS: this season sucks asss but its still the simpsons.
|
*I had to be edited again*

Just an opinion though. |
Ohhh yeah! Cant wait!
|
Hey!
Since we're on the subject of Family Guy, guess where my sig is from! :D Family Guy is my favorite show, SOOO damn funny. It's everything, the subtle humor, low brow and high brow comedy, all that comes together to make one damn funny show. |
Awesome, hope they leave it too edgy to be on TV.
|
I love Family Guy Stewie is the best. I watch it everynight and laugh my head off.
|
I've been watching the Simpsons for the last few years just because I feel obligated to. It's kinda sad. I guess the writers started watching Family Guy in a story meeting to write that Halloween episode. I love Family Guy. Especially the Jew episode
|
Family Guy was so refreshing when compared to all the other bland cartoons on. Simpson, which took a horrible turn for the worse and has shown no signs of getting better, and King of the HIll, while funny to some was just boring. The characters were so 2 dimensional... hardly funny at all...
I sincerely hope that they bring it back for another season or two at least, and I hope the writers dont sacrafice the original style in favour of crap. |
I have a feeling that Family Guy will come back even more risky this time. Kind of like a "na na na na naaa naaa Kiss Our Ass, FOX" kind of way.
|
Don't worry, Fox'll fark it again. They'll move it about, put it at a bad time and then wonder why the ratings suck, only to see another surge in DVD sales. Rinse and repeat.
|
Defiantly kick ass this is one of the few series that I have always thought to be hilarious I like them and the Simpsons. So this is defiantly a good thing.
|
great news, but damn, keep it on adult swim or move it to comedy central. fox is gonna have them on a tight leash if it goes back to them. and besides, there's nothing better to put off an essay on than 11:00 showings of family guy.
|
Family Guy is on cartoon network at 11pm mon-thur.
Funniest...cartoon...ever. Then Futurama at 11:30. |
I read a recent article with McFarlane where he said that he would rather the show play on a smaller network instead of Fox. He said it's virtually unheard of that a show will be cancelled and then picked up again on the same network.
|
..."working on two unnamed movies, one of which is a non-G-rated animated film..."
I haven't been keeping up with IMDB or anything, but could the "non G-rated animated film" possibly be a Family Guy movie? If so, do you think it would be a good idea (ie. would it make money/is there a big enough audience that would enjoy it)? |
I wouldn't recommend making a Family Guy movie at all. I am sure there are alot of people who would go see it just like me but I dont think it would do to well. I dont think the fan base is that big anymore.

I hope they don't ruin the show like the new Ren & Stimpy turned out.
|
I have to say, I don't really understand the King Of The Hill love. Sure, it's a more skillfully developed show, character-wise, with characters much deeper than any found on Family Guy, but they aren't particularly funny. As a comedy, it doesn't deliver often enough. And if it's at all meant to be something else in addition to comedy, it isn't very compelling about it.
Admittedly, I probably overrate Family Guy as I did The Oblongs. But it's an incredibly consistent comedy, and I've yet to see an embarassing episode (referring to a comment on page 1). "How do I look?" "Hmm, how should I put this...somewhere in an attic, there's a portrait of you getting prettier." |
