Oh, and I really enjoyed the second half of Starship Troopers.

The first half was horrible with all the after-school special type plot-lines but once the bug-hunting started this movie was gold.

Bring It On

01-27-2004 11:49 PM

Not ashamed, really- just seems to "teen" for me, but 10 Things I Hate About You....Heath Ledger, a good, funny story, and it's filmed 20 min. away from here. :)

Oh boy do I have to agree! That movie was REALLY good. I really like Julia Roberts and man that last scene when the mom was basically saying bye to her children was so damn.... touching. I can't watch it around a bunch of guys though; they'll clown me; haha.

more fire 01-30-2004 10:01 PM

get over it
I know it's really cheesy, but it's so funny...

Ov3rKiLL 01-31-2004 10:41 AM

thats true illesturban i really think shes a good actress. i think she must be in her 40`s right?

illesturban 01-31-2004 11:16 AM

^ Julia will be 37 this year. Yeah I had to double-check; I thought she was in her 30's still.

Enka 01-31-2004 11:56 PM

what women want.... i own it cuz columbia house sent it to me and I waited too long to send it back....and now my friends make fun of me every time we try to pick a movie to watch

FngKestrel 11-11-2004 01:50 AM

Not ashamed by a lot of movies, but I did take a lot of shit back in high school for liking The Little Mermaid.
.
.
.
Okay, I lied. I'm looking through my DVDs right now and I'd have to say I'm ashamed of most RLC movies, with the exception of Josie and the Pussycats and She's All That.
Hollow Man.
Finding Forrester (especially after the creation of www.yourethemannowdog.com)

Let me go hide now.

Eight 11-11-2004 07:57 AM

Red Dawn :) Never met anyone else whos seen it yet.

Grancey 11-11-2004 09:01 AM

I love Doc Hollywood. Bought it and also watch whenever I catch it on TV.

Stompy 11-11-2004 09:12 AM

I liked Battlefield Earth when I first saw it - I was stoned at the time.

It really was a damn weird movie to watch when baked out of your mind. See, when I watched it, I had NO idea it was an L. Ron Hubbard creation, nor was I aware of how much it was regarded as a "shitty movie." I watched it with an unbiased mind.

Instead of focusing on the bad acting, I sat there and thought, "Damn, that'd be fucked up if this happened." You know.. the whole "aliens come to earth, enslave the human race, and force them to mine metals". It was pretty bizarre.

hoobajoo 11-11-2004 09:30 AM

Robert Townsend movies:
Meteor Man
Hollywood Shuffle

and also an older Keenon Ivory Wayans flick
I'm Gonna Git You Sucka

asaris 11-11-2004 10:32 AM

Red Dawn's a classic! I love it in GTA:Vice City; they have a commercial for Ammu-Nation where they say, "And this weekend, a screening of the documentary Red Dawn". :D

Kull rocks too. Where the guy randomly explodes rolling down a hill? Or Kull's great threat "I'll kill you!", delivered as only Kevin Sorbo can. Ah, good times...

back to the thread ------------ the pseudo musical "cry baby" i don't know why, i just know that i like it.

Catmandu 11-12-2004 02:27 PM

I love "Mars Attacks." Everyone I know thinks it was cheesy, but I guess that's why I liked it. I grew up watching bad sci-fi and horror films in the 60's.

It's "Taming of the Shrew" redone. That's high art I tell you!

RogueHunter65 11-13-2004 01:26 PM

I am ashamed to admit that I like the movie Dungeons and Dragons...yeah

sblime42 11-13-2004 07:30 PM

I'm pretty ashamed of this, but I think Kentucky Fried Movie is one of the greatest movies of all time.

I saw the "catholic high school girls in trouble" skit at my buddy's place and I knew I had to have the movie. Who can not laugh at a room full of midgets in clown suits whipping naked catholic school girls?

comic gold!

bltzkriegmcanon 11-13-2004 09:43 PM

Weekend At Bernie's

I hang my head in shame.

Ultimate_Gohan 11-13-2004 10:36 PM

Pete's Dragon - When I first saw it, I thought all dragons were animated.

Over the Top - A whole movie about arm wrestling, a formula for success. You know you saw it.

Dog Soldiers - My favorite quote from the whole move was when one of the soldiers was cut across the stomch and his orgins were showing and he he told his comrad to leave him. --- "My GUTS ARE COMMING OUT!!!" "WE'LL JUST PUT THEM BACK IN!!!"

Star Drive-in - A weird australian move where you are trapped in a drive-in and can't get out so you plan a break out.

guthmund 11-13-2004 11:39 PM

Wow. There are a lot of movies here that I actually like.

Here's two I didn't see...

Hudson Hawk. I know it's campy, but for some reason I really like this movie. In fact, I bought my own personal copy.

and

Real Men. I think that's the name of it. Jim Belushi and John Ritter. Belushi is trying to contact aliens and give them a glass of water. It's incredibly stupid, but I for some reason I like Jim Belushi. I even watch his show on ABC occasionally. I'll admit it, I laugh.

CinnamonGirl 11-14-2004 12:08 AM

All right...*deep breath* Grease 2. Now, I don't like it as much as Grease (and maybe I should be ashamed of that one, too), but I can sing all the songs...and mmmm, Maxwell Caulfield.... :D

Oh, and um...Drive Me Crazy.

Edit: heh...glancing back though, I noticed I'd already answered with Bill & Ted and Pee-Wee's Big Adventure...so I guess this makes four :)

MovieNut 11-14-2004 06:57 PM

I should just say ditto to what so many have said...

Oscar  (Stallone was great!)
Battlefield Earth
A Walk to Remember (the book is an even bigger tear jerker, if that's possible)
ditto for both Jeepers Creepers
both Final Destinations
Soldier  Kurt Russell is so cool, which leads me to
Escape from LA
Bed of Roses

Sheesh.

It's like confession.

What's worse is, I know there are more...

Xanadu ~~~~~

Church 11-14-2004 07:20 PM

I think I'll have to go with Hackers. I LOVE that movie, lol.

TexanAvenger 11-14-2004 09:04 PM

Josie and the Pussycats - Though the movie is really one big ad, it's such a guilty pleasure

I can't think of any movies that I'm ashamed of liking. Maybe SORT OF... Love, Actually since it's emasculating to enjoy a romantic comedy. ;)

guthmund 11-14-2004 10:24 PM

Emasculating hmmm.???? Well I've got two more then.

I was thumbing through the local tv guide thingy that comes in the Sunday paper and found another one.

French Kiss - Kevin Kline & Meg Ryan go to France

You've Got Mail - Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan

Maybe I'm just attracted to Meg Ryan....?

d*d 11-15-2004 01:59 AM

when Harry met sally
wierd science

arf 11-15-2004 04:52 AM

When Harry met sally
It's the movie I saw on my first plane trip ever when i was 7 and I was moving to another country.

The Princess Bride
I can't help it the child in me still loves this movie.

The labyrinth
Well what can I say...Jennifer Connelly is hot and David Bowie just rocks (but not when you see full frontal Bowie in tights...ugh)

Lefty04 11-15-2004 03:46 PM

Starsky and Hutch. It didn't suck nearly as much as I expected.

pcockren 11-15-2004 04:54 PM

This is gonna sound gay but i liked Summer Catch

DJLaurieB 11-15-2004 05:59 PM

Easy for me - Showgirls! that movie is bloody awful, no real plot, except "i'm not a whore, I'm not a whore...........I said I'm NOT A WHORE............whoops, ok, I lied, I'm a whore"

now if that aint shameful, I don't kow what is :)

Ananas 11-15-2004 09:25 PM

Waterworld

The Jungle Book (the original animated version from the 60's - I had the record as a kid, and still sing the songs)

unregistered092 11-16-2004 09:02 AM

i saw parts of "you got served" and i actualy enjoyed it.

/shame

renaldorick 11-16-2004 12:33 PM

hah, good topic. I would say "bring it on" so ridiculous, yet somehow watchable; "Cant hardly wait" now that one is a classic. "Two weeks notice" - i hate that movie, but sany bullock is like a train wreck in that, hard to not peak at it, same with "28 days" her little rehab movie.

GordZ 11-17-2004 09:21 AM

Pretty In Pink its pretty A-1
whats not to like?

Apokx 11-18-2004 02:36 PM

The Dungeons and Dragons movie.

rabblerouser 11-18-2004 03:29 PM

Empire Records

LIMilf 11-18-2004 09:34 PM

"A League Of Their Own"

Im a guy who loves guy movies, but the end of this movie always makes me tear up a little bit, one of the best baseball movies.

Yes, i am ashamed.

Great movie! When I was in college, some friends and I would gather regularly to watch it. Then during the course of whatever we were doing at other times, we would find ways to quote it. "Head! Move it!"

I should be ashamed to say that I love Showgirls , but I'm really not. Paul Verhoeven is a genius.

Grasshopper Green 11-19-2004 07:03 PM

Encino Man!!! I saw it at the theater six times....

I love lots of 80's/early 90's chick flicks too, like Steel Magnolias, The Bodyguard, A League of Their Own...my hubby always makes fun of me hehe.

NeoRete 11-22-2004 08:16 PM

Ms Congeniality, I admit it. Multiple times actually. At least my SO likes it too.
I hope there are support groups for this.

And Joe Versus the Volcano, the umpteenth Tom Hanks / Meg Ryan movie.

One of the greatest motion picture experiences of all time!!!!!

The Princess Diaries - I have to stop everything I'm doing and watch it every time it comes on. It's almost hypnotic. I can't explain it.

Yeah man... That movie was awesome! I stand by my point. Samuel L Jackson is cool, even in a kilt.

RallyEX 11-28-2004 08:34 PM

Notting Hill, 4 Weddings and a Funeral, Hackers, Any of the Timothy Dalton James Bond Movies, the first Mission Impossible, The Postman (gotta love the Tom Petty cameo).

My wife hates Groundhog Day and thinks I should be ashamed for even watching it... but I absolutely love it!!! "Don't drive angry!"

I am predisposed to liking anything involving John Cusack, Matthew Broderick, Marisa Tomei or Lucy Liu.

Locobot 11-29-2004 10:03 AM

If asked directly I'd probably deny it, but I really liked Bring it On and As Good as it Gets.

thales 11-29-2004 01:40 PM

Stuart Saves His Family

TexanAvenger 11-29-2004 02:49 PM

Alright, alright... I'll fess up to liking not only The Evil Dead and The Phantasm series, but Plan 9 from Outer Space. By being the worst movie in the history of moviedom, it has captured my heart. As for the Phantasm series, one has to appreciate the plot gaps and huge discontinuities.

Peloquin 12-01-2004 06:31 PM

Ok, here it is. I really liked Coalminers Daughter, White Oleander, and The Scorpion King. (I'll just hang my head now)

Am I the only one who thinks Vampira is/was sexy?

http://www.javabachelor.100megs4.com/vamp.jpg

TexanAvenger 12-01-2004 08:50 PM

She was definitely sexy. But her features were always too cruel for me to ever say she was beautiful.

I am ashamed to admit I liked "Beaches."

Someone said "its really funny when that one lady dies." So for years I kept thinking about that statement, wondering, how could that possibly be funny? I finally saw it last year, and yes, it is really funny when that one lady dies.

12-03-2004 09:28 AM

I'm a moron over Friday the Thirteenth and Nightmare on Elmstreet movies. I just love bad horror. See also: anything with Tiffany Shepis.

Locke7 12-08-2004 06:55 AM

Speaking of "Beaches," I liked "The Beach" with Leonardo DiCaprio. Everyone I talk to won't listen to me about movie advice anymore because they all went and saw it after I said I liked it. They all hated it.

Something about the video game portion in the middle had me mesmerized ;)

what the hell is wrong with me?

shadowalker 12-12-2004 03:43 PM

I like shakespeare in love. that was a pretty good movie.

Le Pacte des loups was great in my mind
28 days later
and

Star wars ep II runs and hides.....( but yoda hopping around like a horny bunny rocked)

Paradise Lost 12-12-2004 04:07 PM

I don't know why, but I seem to have an affinity towards bad comedies, while everyone on the IMDB who comments seem to hate them, give them terrible ratings, etc, I love the hell out of them. I wouldn't see a bad or mediocre 'real' movie if they offered to pay for the ticket, but a bad comedy, any day of the week...

Examples:
. . . . . McHale's Navy
. . . . . Down Periscope
. . . . . Robin Hood: Men in Tights
Etc...

deekaybee 12-13-2004 05:55 PM

I am reluctant to admit I like "Happy Gilmore", "Billy Madison" and "Dusk to Dawn".

BTW I actually think Down Periscope is a good comedy.

drewg 12-14-2004 01:33 AM

I really liked Le pacte des Loups even though it was rather cheesy and had the worst CGI monster ever. The soundtrack is one of my favorite movie soundtracks ever though.

tropple 12-14-2004 04:03 AM

Excess Baggage - Alicia Silverstone and that short dude with the accent, and Walken
Goodbye Girl - Marsha Mason and Richard Dreyfuss
CandyStrippers - Amber Hunt and Montana

I like Starship Troopers. Everyone says it sucked but I like it. :o

RolandGilead 12-14-2004 07:02 AM

People only say that it sucked because it pissed away all of the salient political and social points that Heinlein made in the novel.

It was okay if you ignored the title and didn't otherwise associate it with the Heinlein novel.

I _almost_ liked it. I read Starship Troopers when it hit the streets in 59 and probably a dozen time since. That was just too many times to be forgiving enough of the film's flaws. It's a movie I wouldn't mind watching it again, but one which I would not pay to see.

mrklixx 12-14-2004 08:25 PM

Xenomorph 12-15-2004 12:21 AM

Bad Boys 2 defines my memories of the summer of 2003.

I also find no fault in Back to the Future 2. Almost everyone I talk to likes 1 and 3 but hates 2. While I admit that it's my least favorite one in the trilogy, I still think it's a great movie.

Grasshopper Green 12-15-2004 07:44 PM

I love Robin Hood: Men In Tights too!

I also love Encino Man and The Bodyguard. They're both cheesy as hell...but hey, that's ok with me!

welshbyte 12-15-2004 08:01 PM

The movie Hackers i quite like but as a real computer geek i'm totally ashamed to admit it...

Pod People (Mystery Science Teater 3000)
Ator flying in the sky......

deekaybee 12-15-2004 10:16 PM

Just remembered I liked "clueless".

I also don't mind Starwars 1 & 2. Usually when I say this alot of my friends (who are Starwars freaks) show some sort of discent.

Harry Potter 1, 2, 3

I have plenty 'cause I watch a lot of movies:
Uptown Girls, Mean Girls
Kiki's Delivery Service, The Little Mermaid (I'm not ashamed to say I think Ariel is a hot piece of ass)
Once Upon a Time in the Midlands (because I used to live there)
The Secretary (For some this film is just an eccentric curiosity, but I was moved by it)
