South Park Uncensored on Comedy Central

Watched The south park movie on comedy central last night. It was unedited! THey sang all the songs and cursed galore. I was stunned, can they do this? Did anyone elce watch it?

yeah, it was great. the only reason they can do that is because of the time block it was in (i.e. wicked late). it is still cool though hearing the word fuck on cable tv.

Yeah... they did the "shit" episode at its normal time a few years back too. I think since it's cable they can basically say whatever they want, so long as advertisers are willing to advertise during it. But in order to save their asses from other types bad publicity, they air it after midnight.

Of course, I could be wrong.. I'm mostly just guessing.

And they diddent just say it, Ot was written on the blackboard in a couple of scenes.

Yeah, it was a kind of shock to hear them say everything at first, but you got used to it.

Jeez, if all it takes to make you guys giggle is "fuck"s and "shit"s on cable TV, just watch Sex and the City. It's on at 930 and even has the odd boobie thrown in for good measure.

Well Comedy Central standards are a tad bit different from HBO.

Can Comedy Central get fined for for airing it? What exactly are the rules for airing explicit content?

I also pointed out that many cable networks now permit the airing of blasphemous phrases such as “Jesus Christ” that are offensive to millions of believers.

Several days later, I received a reply from Sharon Jenkins at the FCC’s Information Access and Privacy Office. Ms. Jenkins attempted to explain the FCC’s role in enforcing broadcast standards; but, in effect, she essentially said the broadcast of odious programming was largely out of the agency’s control.

She wrote, “In light of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, the FCC’s authority to regulate the content of television programs is extremely limited. In fact, federal law specifically states that the FCC shall not engage in censorship.”

Does this mean that the cable networks are free to televise hardcore pornography?

Apparently not. In fact, the FCC is authorized to censor pornographic content.

Ms. Jenkins explained, “Generally, the FCC’s authority over programming content is limited to programming that is sexually explicit or obscene. Further, the U.S. Supreme Court has determined that the FCC cannot control the content of programming if a lesser remedy, such as requiring that the program be shown after a certain time, is sufficient.”

I think the FCC has more say in Radio than television. I used to spin at a local "communtiy" radio station and they were really strict as to what could be said and what couldn't. And since advertising was not an issue it was all FCC mandated.

I was at relatives' house when it was aired. I had quite the chuckle when my cousins' 7 year old son called everyone "boner biting bastards" and "shit faced cockmasters" for the rest of the night.

They've shown it on basic cable before, only on special occasions and late at night. :D Good film!

I don't get it? What's the big deal? Do American channels never allow curses on air? thats kinda weird, our channels can say pretty much what they want after the watershed.

Yeah, American TV doesn't like "fuck" at all, and it doesn't like "shit" but it will let it slide every few times.

I'm pretty sure the FCC has influence over broadcast TV, but not cable (basic or otherwise).
