Your Most Favorite Christmas Show or Movie .
Few Christmas movies have become as indelibly implemented as Christmas classics as' A Christmas Story .'
I think that ' A Christmas Story ' is one of the funniest movies ever made not only in the Christmas film genre, but in any genre . So what is your favorite Holiday film/show ? |
'Year Without a Santa Claus". It has some slow moments, especially the Blue Christmas segment, but it has Heat Miser and Snow Miser, and that makes it the best of all.

Plot: Christmas, 1971. Five year-old Billy Chapman goes to see his grandfather in a psychiatric institution. While his parents are away, his grandfather asks him if he has been good and warns him that Santa punishes bad children. Driving home, they are stopped by a man dressed in a Santa suit who has just robbed a convenience store. The man shoots Billy’s father and rapes and slits his mother’s throat, which Billy thinks is Santa come to punish him. Afterwards he is placed in a Catholic orphanage where he is subject to cruel abuse by the authoritarian mother superior. Growing into a strapping teenager, he is given a job in the storeroom at a toy store. When the store’s Santa falls ill, the manager makes Billy put on the Santa suit. This causes Billy’s mind to snap and he kills all those in the store and then goes out into the street with an axe dressed as Santa, determined to punish those who have been bad. Good times, -GH |
The Muppet Christmas Carol

I always find Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer to be a cozy movie for those cold December months. :)
|
The Year Without a Santa Claus
Go for it, Heat Miser & Snow Miser "I'm Mr..." |
I second "A Christmas Story" being one of the best...it's just hilarious. Plus they have a 24 hour marathon of it on TV every year...i end up seeing it at least 6 times every christmas
|
I'll vote for Nightmare Before Christmas... :)
|
No offense to you guys, but I HATE "A Christmas Story"
My wife and friends make me watch it every damn year. I don't really HATE it, I just never cared for it that much and now it has become a tradition. My favorites are of course "Christmas Vacation" & "A Charlie Brown Christmas" |
Silent Night Deadly Night was good, I even liked the sequels.
|
"Mister Hankey, the christmas poo, he loves me, and I love you"
|
i kinda like SCROOGED....
brilliant film... |
I have to go with charlie brown christmas. I love Peanuts. After that Christmas Story and It's a Wonderful Life. Its not the holly jolly season without those three.
|
Charlie Brown Christmas is the best and has the best soundtrack, I pull it out every year to get the Christmas mood.
Second would be A Christmas Story. Third would be A Wonderful Life, although they only show it like once each year now. |
I like almost every one that has been listed so far. Here are a couple of others:
Radio City Music Hall's Christmas Spectacular. Okay, so it's not tv or a movie, but it really puts you in the Xmas mood. If you haven't seen it and have the opportunity, do it. I saw it when I was around 8 or so and I remember it was great. Went back this year (25 years later) and it was as good if not better. They even had a little 3D cartoon in the beginning that was awesome. Then of course, there's the "Yule Log". For those that don't remember this, it was basically non stop Christmas songs with the screen focused on a burning log. Could be a very effective method of torture, but also was good for background noise when you're catching up with the family or cooking. |

Maybe you and I should get together and celebrate Christmas. :) I heartily vote for the above. I saw the Radio City show last year and the minute it started (the 3D cartoon), I cried like a bitch. I also love the Yule Log. It's absolutely retarded but I love it. I also vote for A Charlie Brown Christmas, and an old-school videotape I have of John Denver and the Muppets: A Christmas Together which, to my knowledge, hasn't been aired on TV since the mid 80s. |
I like Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas, if it wasn't for your DVD I wouldn't have seen it for another decade.

Love the boys. Another vote here for The Year Without a Santa Claus. |

I can't believe no one has said How the Grinch Stole Christmas or Frosty the Snowman. |
I like National Lampoons Christmas Vacation.
I'm suprised no one has mentioned The nightmare Before Christmas. |
Quote:
My favorites are probably the Alistair Sims version of Christmas Carol, Muppet Christmas Carol (Light the lamp, not the rat! Light the lamp, not the rat! ) and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Scrooged is right up there as well. And even though it's not really a Christmas movie, I love watching Ten Commandments every holiday season as well. Nothing like incredible over-acting by Charleton Heston and Yul Brynner to put me in the holiday mood! :D |
I like National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, as well. :)
My favorite is "A Christmas Story". Next would be "It's a Wonderful Life", the original "Miracle on 34th Street", "A Christmas Carol"(the Alistair Sim and George C. Scott versions), the various claymation cartoons and some of the annual Simpsons et al. Christmas cartoons. |
National Lampoon is the official christmas movie of the tikki household.

All good selections so far. :D I managed to snag a non-MST3000 version of Santa Claus Conquers the Martians and the Mexican Santa Claus a few years back. I make it a point to watch them at least once every holiday season, though my loved ones always find somewhere else to be at the time.
I also love Bill Murray's Scrooged... Ghost of Christmas Present: "You know I like the rough stuff, Frank..." |
Nothing quite captures the holiday spirit like Chewbacca's family getting a visit from Jefferson Starship. The Star Wars Holiday Special.
|
Pee Wee's Christmas Special
Alastair Sims in A Christmas Carol It's A Wonderful Life A Year without a Santa Clause How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Boris Karloff, Chuck Jones and Dr. Seuss... wouldn't be Christmas with out it) Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (Burl Ives is the shizznits) Scrooged These are all viewed at least once a year (preferably at Christmas Honourable mention: Miracle on 34th Street |
KISS Saves Christmas ;)
This will be my fifth annual "I'm Gonna Watch An Entire Showing Of A Christmas Story And I Only See Parts Of It Again" month. Have to watched Scrooged again though, as Bill Murrey is god. |
nothing beats a christmas story.
STILL haven't seen it's a wonderful life all the way through... i also like how the grinch stole christmas and national lampoons christmas vacation. |
Charlie Brown Christmas. All the way. No competition. :D

The one movie that I never miss during the Christmas season is Christmas Vacation. There are several others that I will watch if I see them on, but I absolutely must see Christmas Vacation. |
A mirciale on 34th street
the very frist black and white version is the best christmas moive ever |
Not so much a movie or show, but every Christmas my Grandmother plays her LP of the stories The Small One and Oscar Wilde's The Happy Prince as narrated by Orson Welles and Bing Crosby.
I have some pretty strong emotional memories of listening to that record. |
It's A Wonderful Life
Every once in a while when I watch this I break out in tears. It's just a plain good Christmas movie. |
Quote:
|
I'm going to have to go with 'It's a Wonderful Life'. I've watched it every year since I was a little kid.
|
Christmas Vacation!
I also love the March of the Wooden Soldiers. |
I must say I love 'A Christmas Story' and can watch it several times a day.
|
Charlie Brown Christmas hands down.
although I need to see A year without santa claus, and The nightmare before christmas |
Another vote to Charlie Brown Christmas and A Nightmare before Christmas. Those are my two very favorites, by far.
|
Tough choice, but it would be Christmas Story or Christmas Vacation.
|

Still watch the Grinch every year though, love that poor freakin dog. Always make sure I watch Charlie Brown, George Bailey, and Chevy Chase, but also watch my tape of the Simpsons first Christmas show. The one where Homer plays Santa and then loses his paycheck at the dog track on Christmas Eve. Things look grim till they bring home the dog, Santa's Little Helper. Oh hell, gettin misty thinking about it. |
gotta say:
A Christmas Story Charlie Brown Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol |
There are so many!
- A Christmas Story - Charlie Brown Christmas - Christmas Vacation - It's a Wonderful Life - How the Grinch Stole Christmas (animated) I...can't...decide! |
Oh man! How could I have possibly forgotten A Very Brady Christmas? If I learned one thing from that movie it's that Spoiler: "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" can save a man from the wreckage of a collapsed building!
*sigh* I haven't seen this one in a while. |
It was A Nightmare Before Christmas but I've just been 2 see Elf, and that is now my favourite xmas movie.
Will Ferrell is a legend! |
is, was, and always will be "A Christmas Story" .
|
Charlie Brown Christmas
A Christmas Story How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the animated one, not that crappy other one) - btw, "Your a mean one, Mr Grinch" has to be one of, if not THE, best Christmas song ever. Nightmare Before Christmas is also a fun movie. |
A Christmas Story
Charlie Brown Christmas Miracle on 34th Street How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the cartoon) Muppet Christmas Carol Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer To a lesser extent, Frosty the Snowman Very busy movie/cartoon season for me hehe |
Top two would be Charlie Brown and The Grinch (the original, the movie is a monstrosity), followed by A Christmas Story and A Wonderful Life. I'll watch White Christmas even though its very corny and Holiday Inn, which quite a bit better. Another one I haven't seen mentioned is Olive, the Other Reindeer, which is cute, with some neat animation. I don't think enough people see it as a classic (its only a few years old), so I don't think it made it into the yearly rotation that the big classics have. Sorry to you all but I despise Year Without a Santa Claus. The songs drive me insane. By the way, in those old claymation specials how come Santa is always so keen to cancel Christmas?
|
Movies I have to watch at Christmastime:
Frosty the Snowman A Charlie Brown Christmas Home Alone Home Alone 2 The Santa Clause It's A Wonderful Life |
A Christmas Story- love watching that every year- i still laugh.
|
Christmas Vacation, Christmas Story, and Nightmare before Christmas
|
My favorites are:
A Charlie Brown Christmas Claymation of Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer National Lampoons Christmas Vacation |
Another vote for A Christmas Story...
|
Besides the classics like the grinch, rudolph and charlie brown, I think my favorite is....
Die Hard. I mean, it takes place during xmas so it is a xmas movie right? |
I can't believe that only one person has mentioned "White Christmas".
We watch it every Christmas Eve. We know every song by heart and usually sing along. Corny and sappy, you bet. But it still means Christmas has arrived at our house. |
CHRISTMAS VACATION!
|
much bigger fan of audio, so have to go with:
- The 30 min western version of A Christmas Carol from the excellent single season radio show The Six SHooter (edit: forgot to type name) starring James Stewart from 1954. Howard McNear plays the scrooge character with his usual skill - Patrick Stewart doing ALL the the characters in the same story with very minimal supporting music and sound patterns. Have the 2 hour CD version of the same performance that sold out on broadway every year - Any of Jack Benny's hilarious annual Christmas shows. The radio bits are much better but the Television show was decent enough for the weaker format as well. - Amos n' Andy's Christmas shows; timeless classics as is the rest of the 30+ years of the run that Freemen Gosden and Charles Correll had with those characters. |
"The Grinch Who Stole Christmas"(original cartoon), except I stop it 10 mins from the end so the Grinch wins. ;)
|
Scrooged!
"Look Frank.. Its.. A.. TOASTER!!" |
Quote:
I have to see A Charlie Brown Christmas...every year, or it just ain't Christmas. Even at my age.:D We've been watching Mrs. Santa Claus, with Angela Landsberry for the past few years now. It's kinda sappy, but I've actually taken a kind of liking to it. :) |
"How the Grinch Stole Christmas" Dr. Suess good stuff. Favorite.<br>Oh I forgot about Christmas Story and Christmas Vaction. Also very nice.
|
Despite the recent jim carrey version.....
gotta go grinch |
A Christmas Story or Christmas Vacation
|
Great lines from great films:
scrooged -- bill murray and carol kane: "you know i like the rough stuff" / "the bitch hit me with a toaster." christmas vacation -- randy quaid: "the shitter's full!" but one of my all time favorites was the SNL skit where they did the lost ending to "it's a wonderful life" where they beat the hell out of old man potter at the end. my side still hurts from that. |
I'll be a sheep and go with A Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, Scrooged, Nightmare Before Christmas
and.. really surprised that nobody mentioned it yet... The Snowman .. it's beautifully animated, with an overall pastel feel to it. There are no words in it, other than in the haunting "Walking In The Air" song midway through. It's a magical, wonderful, and heartbreaking at the end. Just can't beat it for Christmas magic. |
Did anyone ever see Snowday (I think that was the name) The guy from Cabin Boy is in it and he drives a plow.
Movies like that are my reasoning that A Christmas Story is the best. |
I love "A Christmas Story" How could anyone not like that movie?
My second favorite is "Its a Like Dat Christmas" It only aired once but was too funny. That Rudolph remix special that aired last year was kinda funny too. |
Christmas Vacation and Scrooged are a must every year. Especially Christmas Vacation. Hilarious everytime.
|
Quote:
For me it aint Christmas without seeing 1) The Grinch (original animated only not that POS Live Action) 2) A Christmas Carol (w/Alastair Sim as Scrooge and it must be in Black and White) 3) It's A Wonderful Life |
I have to watch "A Christmas Story" at least 2-3 times each year. It is like watching my own Christmases from when I was that age. I too wanted a BB gun when i was 7-8 yrs old, and never got one. I can totally relate to this movie.
