Worst sequels?

Alright whats the worst sequel you've ever seen? I'm a big sci-fi buff especially when it has to do with bugs. I thought Mimic kicked fuckin ass then I heard about Mimic 2. Worst damn sequel I've ever seen. It did no research what so ever on the original film or the plot and story behind it.

(SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT. IF YOU'VE SEEN NEITHER...DON'T READ :D)

Okay as we all know in the first movie Cockroaches were running rampant through the city and infecting the youth with terminal illness so then in comes the team of micro-biologists/entomologists and create a new species of insect through gene splicing. They mixed Termite and Mantid DNA and created the Judas bug. The bug was equipped with a chemical toxin which it excreted through its back that would poison and kill all the cockroaches in the city and of course through the course of evolution the bugs became enormous and mimiced humans...Now my point in Mimic 2 The Judas breed was I believe a cross-breed of Ant and Cockroach DNA (And it is supposed to be the exact same species from the first) as soon as I heard them say that I was like "WTF? Ah shit this is going nowhere!" How stupid can you be to not notice one of the key factors in the first movie which is that the bug was not a mix of cockroach DNA but that it was designed to KILL COCKROACHES! Why the hell would they mix it with the very DNA they are trying to eliminate?! It couldn't have been worse. It was obviously lower budget...bunch of poor excuses for actors that I've never even seen in other movies then the bugs weren't nearly as cool either. They totally fucked up the movie. Now theres a part 3 out and I'm almost too scared to see how badly they fucked this one up...I'll probably see it anyway cause thats the type of guy I am I'll want to see just how bad they fuck it up but it wouldn't be the first time I completely passed up a sequel. Like the sequel to Black Mask....LOVED Black Mask but when I read that the sequel didn't even have Jet Li in it and it was about Wrestlers that pretty much killed any anticipation I had for seeing that movie. Well bring em on.

Keep in mind that not everyone has seen every movie so do please put a spoiler warning before going into any detail about a movie. I knew who the killer was in Urban Legend before I even saw it and I'm never going to see K-Pax because (SPOILER!!!!!) some idiots were talking about it out loud in class and they were like "Hey man have you seen K-Pax? Didn't you think it was cool how at the ending it turned out he wasn't an alien after all....he was just a genius" I turned around and I was thinking "WELL THANX A LOT ASSHOLE!!" I mean the whole fuckin plot of the movie is that you're NOT supposed to know that! I could kill someone right now so I'm gonna finish eating my chicken pot-pie instead. Carry on folks!

Asta!!

johnnymysto 10-07-2003 04:48 AM

This is so funny - when I read the thread title, I immediately thought of Highlander 2. I guess it's plain to see how very bad that movie is.

So, since my answer was taken (well, not taken - it was THE answer), I'll have to go with Superman 4. Superman 2 was the rare sequel that trumped the original. Superman 3 was still a decent take on the Man of Steel. But Superman 4 was garbage. I mean, they take a girl to the freakin moon, and she survives - with no space suit!!!! I guess they thought if they brought Gene Hackman back, it would be an automatic success. But no. I bet he still hates the fact that he was in that career albatross.

phukraut 10-07-2003 07:04 AM

i agree with highlander 2, but do prequels count? if so i vote for starwars 1.

docbungle 10-07-2003 09:17 AM

Matrix Reloaded. My least favorite sequel. A complete letdown. And yes, all the new Star Wars flicks are horrible, imo.

Sleepyjack 10-07-2003 09:26 AM

speed 2

THE MAC GOD 10-07-2003 09:39 AM

Nah... I like reloaded.. people dont seem to understand it is merely a continuation of the story... not a new movie ... plus, we are already open to the ideas of the Matrix.. so there is little new in that area that can WOW us like the said first one. That aside, It could've been better.

Scary Movie2 kinda sucked... the redhead was the redeaming factor. :) Temple of Doom didn't fit anywhere in that trilogy.

You are insane. What were you expecting, an anticlimatic ninety minute Watch-Neo-Kill-Everyone fight scene?

MPower 10-07-2003 10:15 AM

Highlander 2. I actually paid money to see it.
I laughed I cried, I kissed 5bucks goodbye.
I never saw it, but I believe they made return of the magnificent Seven. I would assume it sucked, as 4 of them died in the original.

foolio7714 10-07-2003 10:39 AM

Beverly Hills Cops 3.....worst movie ever.

Cynthetiq 10-07-2003 10:57 AM

damn.. what about Highlander 3???? I mean Mario Van Peebles????

Batman976 10-07-2003 12:57 PM

Weekend at Bernies 2.

Yes, I thought the first one was funny.

K-Wise 10-07-2003 03:32 PM

Was Highlander 2 the one with Dennis Hopper and Macloud was an old dude? Cause that one was pretty bad too. Don't tell me you're talking about The Quickening with Sean Connery and that Gothic swordsman dude with the safety pins in his neck. Thats probably the best one I've seen (Of course the fact that the whole soundtrack was done by Queen might give me a bit of a bias) But I realize theres a whole shit load a movies that bear the Highlander name and I've yet to keep up with all of em. Highlander Endgame (The last one) was kind of a let down. Wish it had a higher budget and better......something. Well yeah theres plenty a more bad sequels out there heh.

Asta!!

Lasereth 10-07-2003 04:12 PM

Definitely Terminator 3. And I find it hard to believe that Matrix Reloaded was a bad sequel, when in fact it was better than the first one.

Pardon me for having a least favorite sequel. Pardon me for having an opinion. What was I thinking.

docbungle 10-07-2003 04:18 PM

I also thought Die Hard 2 was a huge letdown. Part 3 made up for it, though.

HIGHLANDER ENDGAME SPOILER

Oh, good call on any of the Highlander sequels... As far as I'm concerned, they just don't exist. The original Highlander, and the Highlander TV series with Duncan are all that exist. Seriously, the immortals are aliens in Highlander 2, Mario Van Peebles came back from being buried alive in Highlander 3, and Connor is killed off in Highlander Endgame!!!! How can you kill The One off?!? That's just kicking all true Highlander fan(atics) in the crotch...

/covers eyes & ears. Didn't happen, didn't happen, didn't happen.

phukraut 10-07-2003 05:16 PM

endgame wasn't horrible, except for the editing.. did you see it??? especially the last fight scene.. was this thrown together in highschool!?

Kaos 10-07-2003 05:25 PM

I have to agree with Highlander 2, and also these worthy jems:

Mission Impossible 2, The Batman sequels, and just about every straight-to-video- sequel ever made.

dylanmarsh 10-07-2003 05:26 PM

Godfather 3 with Francis Ford Coppala's daughter getting her stink all over Andy Garcia.

hawkeye 10-08-2003 07:12 AM

these are all great choices, but for sheer volume of crappiness, let's go with Police Academys II, III, IIII, V, VI, & VII.

Caddyshack II

I still haven't forgiven Dan Akroyd for that one yet.

bigjule 10-08-2003 08:27 AM

Randy Quaid was the only good thing about Cadyshack II

healyk 10-08-2003 09:43 AM

Caddyshack 2 and Blues Brothers 2000. Something about Dan Akroyd and sequels just doesn't mix.

Monre 10-08-2003 12:38 PM

Blair Witch 2.....What the fuck just destroy the whole story.

djflish 10-08-2003 01:10 PM

The Godfather Part 2.

Not in the way that its a bad film, cos its not, just in the way that it was such a disappointment. I saw the first one and loved it and I'd heard so much about the 2nd part being the best ever sequel and really built it up and when i got around to seeing it i was disappointed. Part 1 is better

frankx 10-08-2003 04:36 PM

Any post Tim Burton Batman sequel.

I'm with Hawkeye about the Police Academy movies. I personally feel that this is a perfect example of a very funny movie that should have never, never ever spawned a sequel.

Also, Speed 2 was just godawful.

Mr.Deflok 10-08-2003 11:53 PM

Speed 2
Die Hard 2 (but as mentioned above, 3 more than makes up for it)

Personally I though Terminator 3 was far superior to T2 since it wasn't a big-budget re-tread of it's predecessor (though still one of the greatest action flicks ever made).

Oh an Episode I and II are PREquels not sequels, so shut the fuck up about them. Sorry, had to get that out, I just can't stand how people always have to somehow find a way to whine about the Prequels in a conversation about movies.

LaZy 10-09-2003 12:16 AM

The Lost World. Hated that movie. I thought JP3 was decent though. Oh and I thought Attack of the Clones sucked, sorry deflok I had to say it. Surprisingly I enjoyed Phantom Menace when I first watched it. Go figure.

Fremen 10-09-2003 04:44 AM

The Poltergeist sequels.

Actually Attack of the Clones could be considered a sequel to The Phantom Menace. Even though AOTC was about 30,000,000x better than TPM.

I'm not sure about worst sequel though... probably The Mummy Returns. They made up so much bullshit that was no where in the first one, and never explained how the Mummy got ressurected. Sure it was a popcorn flick but they could have at least stuck with what they had from the first instead of making up idiotic things.

Henry V.
I liked the first one, about the serial killer, but this one was all about some king or something. And everyone talked in this weird English.
I missed II-IV though, so maybe that's why I didn't get it. I felt the same way after watching Malcolm X without having seen Malcolm I-IX.

Because I am a reasonable person, I will avoid calling you names for that. :)

Seriously though, what made it inferior in your eyes to part 1. The Godfather Part 2 was one of the best films on the corruption of power, ever. Great performances by Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino. Its not quite my favorite move ever, but it ranks up there.

I think that people were simply expecting something different from Reloaded than what it delivered. If you expected something different and didn't get it, then I can see why someone wouldn't like it. I prefer to be open to new and different things. Reloaded surprised the hell out of me; I'll admit that I was incredibly "weirded out" the first time I saw it. I didn't know what to think. I saw it a second time, and then it all made sense, and I realized what the Wachowski Brothers were trying to do. Oh well, if you wanted something out of Reloaded, I guess no one says you have to change your mind if it didn't deliver what you were expecting.

Anyway, I just wanted to agree with CryptikSoul on Men in Black II. The first movie had so much atmosphere; the second one was bad enough to not even compare it to the first.

Knaw part two wasn't that bad at all. Part 3 is the one we should all pretend never happened. In the comics they have a female crow. I think that'd be pretty cool but the first one was just soooooo great and Brandon was so awesome in it (then he dies during it to boot!) that I don't think anyone could possibly fill his shoes well enough to satisfy someone..

(SPOILER)

Yeah I gotta agree with MIBII. There were a bunch a parts that were just plain stupid. My biggest problem, the thing I thought was the stupidest, was the whole "de-neurolizer" thing. Okay so K goes into the de-neurolizer to get back all his old memories that he lost when he was neurolized by J in the first movie but then after he's been "de-neurolized" and he's asked exactly where the light of whatever is he replies with
Quote:

I don't know..(What do you mean you don't know?) I don't know I musta neurolized myself so I would forget it
Okay isn't the whole point of the "de-neurolizer" to fuckin DE-NEUROLIZE?! I mean if he went through the de-neurolizer it should de-neurolize everything. Fuckin stupid

Actually you're wrong. The Crow 3 was not Stairway to heaven. That one was the one released after all those and is a play off of the series. The Crow 3 was called Salvation and it stared Kirsten Duntz and Eric Mabius
http://images.rottentomatoes.com/ima.../69/172269.jpg

It was pretty bad. I dunno if it was as bad as Stairway to Heaven but I thought part 2 was pretty good if you forget about how awesome Brandon was in the first one and just enjoy it if you can. My main beef with the second movie was that when you saw the first one on some of the tapes at the end or begining I can't remember it shows a tombstone and on that tombstone it reads "Michael Corvin" I believe and then it says "The Crow 2 (City Of Angels) coming.....blah blah 19blahblah" and then I see part two and the guys name is Ash? I thought that was a pretty stupid name at that but it wasn't all that bad regardless no way in hell deserving of "WORST" sequels I mean we are talking about WORST as in when you pick it there shouldn't be too many anyone else can think of that are worse than your choice and I can think of plenty that are worse than The Crow City Of Angels.

But seriously.
The worst sequel ever is "Return to Oz" I saw it in the theater when I was twelve. I'm 30 now, and it still haunts me.
