"Alias" - I love it!
I just love watching "Alias." I look forward to Sundays just to watch it! Unfortunately, I missed a few episodes last season. Tonight (9/28) was the season premiere and it did show a little of what happened last season. But for those who have been following Alias, would you mind giving me a quick run-down with what happened?
All they showed was Sydney fighting her roommate and eventually shooting her twice. Then the apartment was on fire and next thing they showed was Sydney meeting Vaungh, TWO years later because she had been "missing". What happened in the episodes preceding the last one? Thanks. :) |
The stupid fucking TV networks in New Zealand seem to play ping-pong with this show.
First one channel had it, then they canned it mid season (!) then another channel was able to pick it up, apparently buying season 2 as well, but stopped showing it after the end of the first season. Citing low ratings, but fucking hell, in a nation of 4 million people, why do only 400 decide what the ratings are, I mean the margin of error has to be HUGE. So anyway, that was my personal bitch'n'moan :( One of the better shows I think, not just because Jennifer Garner is hot, but the plot twists and storyline is great to watch. |
Yes i have never missed a episode yet. I wanna get the first season on DvD. Tonight's show was down right awsome. like WTF IS HAPPENING! Wonder what the scar is. I wonder hmmm......
Gonna be a good season. I just love Jennifer Garner. Uoo la la la,great physical body. Yeeeee haaa! Other then her looks the show has a great story. Ciao. |
I've only seen two episodes of this show (last episode of last season which replayed last week) and last nights.
I quite like it! Would anyone mind giving me a brief synopsis of who the various characters are and who her parents are? I know I am jumping in really really late, but I do like this show from what I've seen. |
Well Splice (takes a deeeeep breath)...
Sydney was working for the CIA trying to take down Arvin Sloane and his cronies, one of whom was her mother. Sloane's goal was to find and assemble all the components of the Rambaldi Device, some artifact that a prophet long ago had built. This device was supposed to be of great power, but we never really found out what it was supposed to do (WMD, immortality, whatever). Sydney's mother was in CIA custody for a long time, but all the while she was scheming to trick the CIA into using their computers and intelligence to find some of the Rambaldi Device pieces for Sloane. Eventually, she accompanied a CIA team on a mission, acting as an assistant and made good her escape. Sydney used to work for SD-6, which was a branch of The Alliance, a group of men who were determined to rule the world, and which Sloane used to be a member of. SD-6 pretended to be a secret US government organization, and told all its employees this. Sydney found out the truth from her father, who was also in SD-6, and was acting as a double-agent for the CIA. She then decided to be a double-agent, too, and acted as a team with her father to bring down The Alliance. They finally did this, much to the surprise of her partner, Dixon, and the tech geek, Marshall. They were both brought into the CIA since they had no idea they had been working against the US government. EDIT: Sloane escaped capture when they raided SD-6, thanks to his information from Sydney's mother. He had also helped to bring down The Alliance by leaking information to the CIA. The Alliance wanted Sloane to kill his wife after they discovered she was aware that he was working for them. He loved his wife too much to do this, so he made it look like he had killed her. In fact, he hatched a plan to break up The Alliance, run away with his wife, and keep all the pieces and details of the Rambaldi Device. During her stint as a double-agent, her CIA handler was Michael Vaughn, and they grew closer and closer with each meeting. There was a lot of sexual tension, which finally got resolved when she joined the CIA full-time. Their relationship developed more during the second season. Sydney had a friend, Will Tippin, who was a reporter and dug too deep into the mysteries of SD-6. Consequently, Arvin Sloane tried to kill him, but Sydney and her father saved him. The CIA erased his identity to protect him, but gave him a small-time job in order to help him make ends meet. He began a relationship with Sydney's roommate, Francie, and Arvin Sloane used this to his advantage. He had Francie killed, and replaced her with a double. This double gleaned knowledge from Will in his sleep and reported it back to Sloane. The double is who Sydney killed in the last episode of the second season. Are you all caught up now? |
johnnymysto, excellent synopsis! I've watched the show from the pilot (which buy the way, was by far the best episode they did). As spy shows go, the whole double-agent story was getting a bit stale, and I'm glad they finally deviated from that (the demise of SD6). There's also way too much personal pouting going on. Every episode it's save my dad, or save my mom, or my mom did this, or my dad did that, or save Will, or kill Francie, etc, etc. I still watch the show religiously if for no other reason than to see Sidney in a hot outfit, kicking some ass. But I have to say that T'Pol from Enterprise is the new benchmark!

Great show! We look forward to Sundays for Alias. They have to find a way to keep Vaughn though, he's too cute.
|
LOVE IT!!! didn't watch it last night.. Tivo'd it... due to conflicts with Charmed... which the wife likes...
anyways... I'll be watching it again shortly :) |
I love this show! It's one of the very few that I have to watch. I can't wait to hear about what happened in that 2 yr. span.
|
Thanks, Wondash. As you can see from my avatar, this is one of my all-time favorite shows. Last season's premier episode was awesome (the red and black lingerie - wow!). I hope they do a good job of explaining the 2-year amnesia, cuz that was a real bombshell. And I love Victor Garber as her dad - he's a Bad Mofo!!
|
johnnymysto,
You say Sydney killed the double. We only know that the double was shot in both shoulders. We still don't know if she is dead or not... From the coming attractions, it looks like this season is gonna be another heck of a ride though! |
johnnymysto: You did an AWESOME job summing up the show. And as many have said..
(1) Jennifer Garner is sexy and exciting! (2) The storyline is great...lots of twists and turns. dragonhawk: Agreed. All they showed was Francie getting shot. Remember folks, "Alias" is great at developing fantastic storylines. :) I love how Vaughn told Sydney he quit the CIA. I know he'll be back. His name is on the credits! He's not going anywhere. And what about Sloane, can you guys believe he managed to get the CIA to pardon him and THEN hire him on to work for them! He's such a weasel! |

And how about finding Syndey's DNA at the fire?
Wonder who/what that was? Do you think that Slone is telling the truth about the device? I still wonder if this is a dream world for Sydney caused by the Rambaldi device. Slone is using it to find out from Sydney what he can. Rambaldi had too many dangerous toys just to make one that said Peace... Doesn't sound like his type of device. Who knows. |
What a great first episode. I think Sloane is lying about what the Rambaldi device actually said. I can't wait to see how Sydney came to be an assasin in her 2 "missing years"
|
Yeah, if her DNA was discovered then I wonder if someone (like Sloane) has a hold of it. Maybe Sydney will meet her toughest enemy/opponent yet...her clone! Ohhhh. :D

Alias last night - October 27
Last nights Alias was a good one (as always).
Does anyone have screencaps of the shower scene? That was awesome! Daval |
Oh, no doubt, my friend - no doubt. I almost dripped slobber on the couch. Whoo!
Yeah, last night was great - Sloane's a double agent!! He's such a snake. Man, where's Will Tippin? I can't believe he's not in this year. That sucks - he was a great character, and should be on the show. |
Next week should take the show for another turn. Last night was awesome. Too bad Sloane didn't loose his arm, that would have been funny.
|
Last night's episode was the best so far this season! But let's not forget last week with the Black Bra and Panties Dive Into The Pool scene!
|
I am constantly amazed and surprised at the twists and turns the creative writers have come up with for this wonderful show. I was blown away on tonight's episode (11/2). Anyone else?
|
The end was certainly quite interesting. Special healing powers?
I can't wait till next week! |
I was glad that they finally got back to the Rambaldi plot. I thought they had forgotten about it!
|
I so wish I've watched the other seasons. This is the first season I've ever watched.
I'll have to see if they are out on DVD |

I didn't catch the episode where Will died, but they did show it on this latest episode of Francine strangling him. Yeah, I liked him and thought he was an interesting character on the show.
I can't wait for next week. Man oh man! :) |
Well, they showed her strangling Will, but in the first or second episode of this year they told Sydney that Will was in protective custody. So....??????? Where's he at?
|
I was wondering where Will was too...
Maybe he knows who grabbed Sydney? And now that "Francie" is back, they can bring Will back too! |
I love, love, LOVE this show, but come on - last night Sydney and Vaughn crash-landed a JET, and the only damage to them is a cut on his arm???? I'm as content to suspend reality for 60 minutes as the next guy, but this was a little unusual for this show. Oh well.
Oh, and the fact that they were able to evade missiles, let alone fly the thing, was also a bit out-there. But hey - it's good TV!! <----- I love you Sydney! |
*****SPOILERS FOR LAST NIGHTS EPISODE***********
Alias and ER are the only TV shows that I regularly watch. But yeah, this week's episode had a few "uhhh what?" moments in there. First of all the hit man didn't assasinate them in the airport, but instead shoots the pilots with delayed poison. This reminded me of Dr Evil from Austin Powers always deliberately taking the complicated and unreliable path to killing the agents when he could just shoot them in the first place. Yeah, about the plane. It's falling without any engines on and Vaugh specifically says "I don't have any time to start the engines" at 1,000 feet. Yet after commericals the plane is only slightly on fire but managed to land safely. I also liked how they lounged around the wreckage until the N Korean military arrived, THEN they decided to destroy the intelligence. Usually Alias is a pretty good show but this week definetely had a few plot holes. |
Yeah, maybe they were trying out a new writer for that episode. Marshall didn't have any funny lines last night, either. Gotta have Marshall. And where's Irina Derevko this season? She was a great character - I hate that she's not around this time.
I'd like to bounce a little idea off my fellow Alias fans. I've been thinking about this since Season 1: * Sloane is Sydney's father. * What do y'all think? He's constantly looking out for her, and he's NEVER done anything to harm her, even when he knew she was behind the collapse of SD-6, attempts on his life, etc. |
Last night left a lot to be determined, and the events, too unrealistic. Many many holes need filling in, quickly, or the fan base could leave in a hurry.
As for the "Sloane is her dad" statement, that would really be kicker, but it's possible. He has always been lovey to her, in a fatherly kind of way, and he's stated that he loves her like a daughter. So, I wouldn't doubt that it could go that way. |
Oh SNAP!!!! I've been right all along! Did you guys see the previews for the next episode, where Sloane (supposedly) reveals his big secret? This is going to be awesome if it's true. What a great freakin' show!!!!
|
I'm getting a little sick of the "new episode in 3 weeks" thing. Geez, lets only make 5 new episodes a year. But Sunday's rocked, and the previews look awesome.
|
Frankly I am sad I stopped watching this show. The fellas and I used to gather on Sunday nights and watch it each week when I lived in the dormatoriums, now I've moved to an apt and found myself buried in more work than ever and my Alias addiction sort of died. :(

each broadcaster buys shows in packages, an established show like this one easily does 23-26 shows in one season. The reason you see these lags is because they move them over for sweeps and ratings. |
You're right about the programming. It just seems more apparent since I'm so into the show and want to see it every week! Just my little rant about programming.
