Donald O'Connor from "Singin' in the Rain' dies
Donald O'Connor dies at 78
The name probably doesn't sound familiar to many, but if you've ever seen the amazing classic "Singin' In The Rain," Donald O'Connor is the man who nearly stole the whole damn thing from Gene Kelly with his number "Make 'Em Laugh," which must be seen to be believed in terms of his amazing acrobatics and pratfalls. If you haven't seen "Singin' In The Rain," you owe it to yourself to check out this masterpiece, newly remastered on DVD. You'll understand what I'm talking about. A great performer. RIP Donald O'Connor. |

good man
that's a rare find in Hollywood. |
I just saw Singin in the Rain a few months ago at a classics theater in town. I never thought I'd like a fifties musical, but it's a pretty cool movie, and O'Connor is incredible--agile literally beyond belief. People just can't move like that anymore. Well worth checking out just for his and Grace Kelly's and Debbie Reynold's acrobatics. R.I.P.

The Make 'em Laugh routine was one of the most genious routines ever created.

that scene was freakin' amazing

A very sad day indeed. Quite a while ago, I read that the Make 'em Laugh routine was so physically demanding that it took Donald three days of bed recovery for the aches and bruises - and then he was asked to do a second take after because the camera was set incorrectly! :D
