Bale is Batman

Christian Bale is next Batman

Let the flame war on Hollywood begin.

filtherton 09-11-2003 04:18 PM

Give him a chainsaw and business cards and that man is unstoppable

JazzmanAl 09-11-2003 04:21 PM

I think he would make a good Batman. Better than some of the guys they have gotten to do it....

Baldrick 09-11-2003 04:52 PM

Actually, out of all of the names that have been thrown around for Batman, he's one of the best choices. He's a good actor (we'll ignore that Reign of Fire actually happened), and does actually look the part.

Batman976 09-11-2003 04:58 PM

I have to agree with Baldrick. I'd still rather see Aronofsky directing the next Batman than Nolan though.

docbungle 09-11-2003 05:46 PM

Bale is awesome.

Vales419 09-11-2003 06:32 PM

Bale is very dark and have the ability to the Bruce Wayne/Batman role very well. Check out his character in Equillibrum he is fucking amazing. Good call!

Peace.

V.

Moskie 09-11-2003 06:47 PM

I'm starting to get kinda excited about this flick. Whether or not you actually like Nolan or Bale, its kinda hard to say they're untalented, which is more than you can say for most of the people attached to the recent Batman flicks.

holtmate 09-11-2003 06:54 PM

Hey, Bale doesn't look sound like a bad choice at all.
But the best part about the new movie...you guessed it!
No Schumacher!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

filtherton 09-11-2003 06:57 PM

Is this the batman movie that frank miller was involved with, or not? Is that still even happening?

Hrothgar 09-11-2003 07:08 PM

I'm happy with Bale. I'm even happier no Schumacher.

Snoogans 09-11-2003 08:43 PM

Bale is good, Michael Keaton is better.

World's King 09-12-2003 12:27 AM

Holy shit.

You all didn't blast this fucker out the water... I'm impressed.

Xiangsu 09-12-2003 01:50 AM

Sounds better than batman and robin, but thats not saying much;).

JohnnyRock 09-12-2003 06:19 AM

Not sure who he is...but the Batman franchise comes down to the script and the director...all have sucked since the first one!

CrazyIntent 09-12-2003 07:44 AM

Schumacher absolutely ruined the Batman movies. I think he cared more about nipple suits than making a decent movie. Now Batman Forever wasn't too bad, but Batman & Robin is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Would it have been that tough to hire a music composer to write some new music for that movie or did they spend all their time on Dr. Freeze's crapmobile.

Marius1 09-12-2003 07:47 AM

Bales is great. Equiblibrium is fantastic.

Keaton sucked as Batman. He is only like two foot tall. Come on give us a break, Batman is a hulk of a man.

Pellaz 09-12-2003 09:50 AM

I'm down with Bale being bats, but my real hope comes from it supposedly being about the earlier years of batman.

Reese 09-12-2003 09:55 AM

He's a much better choice than Ashton kutcher... Out of all the names I've seen thrown around he is the best.

Charlatan 09-12-2003 10:31 AM

It's an interesting choice. I think Bale should do a fine job.

I'm more interested in the studio's choice of Nolan as director. This could go either way. He is definately no Schumacher (all goofy show but no story) but he is also no Burton (all dark show and prblematic story).

My gut says that like Aliens 3 and the studio's choice of a newbie David Fincher, Warner Brothers feels that they can get cred with Nolan but are counting on the fact that he is still relatively wet behind the ears and can therefore be pushed around (in other words they've hired him because he's arty but they'll be pissed if he actually turns out to be arty).

SecretMethod70 09-12-2003 10:39 AM

Bale definitely fits the part of Bruce Wayne. I'm not so sure about Batman though - however I haven't seen Equilibrium yet, so the jury is still out. Nonetheless, there's no way he could beat Keaton.

Hopefully the directing will be a lot better though - the only one I've really been satisfied with was the first movie in that regard.

maximusveritas 09-12-2003 11:17 AM

Bale was Bateman. Bale is Batman.
Had to do it.
I too would have preferred Aronofsky as the director. From what I've heard from him in interviews, he had a vision for a Batman film that wouldn't simply be a derivative of the previous ones. Then again, maybe that's one scared the studios.

CSflim 09-12-2003 11:18 AM

No Aronofsky!? Damn! I was really lookign foward to that!

Yeah, Bale is a pretty good choice.

As for the previous films, that only decent one was the original "Batman" by Tim Burton. Batman Returns was mediocre. Batman Forever was watchable...but it far too "Hollywood" and "Pop"...where was the darkness? Instead we were given uberly camp performances from Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carrey reminiscent of the Adam West vesrion of Batman.
As for Batman & Robin...actually no, lets not get into that.
I just hope that this new Batman is as balck as coal. :D

I gotta disagree with you on this one. The thing I always liked about Batman was that he was just a regular guy with a nasty past. The bigger they make him, the less interesting he is to me. I thought Keaton did a great job playing him.

Arc101 09-12-2003 11:36 AM

Yea Keaton did a good job. I'm just glad they didn't give Clooney another chance. I think a better choice would have been that guy from LOTR who played Aragorn - Viggo Mortensen

Whether in the comic book, cartoons, or the camp 70s versions Batman was always taller than robin. Ketton didn't have a robin cause he would have had to stand on a box to be taller.

Hold on a second.... ASHTON KUCTHER AS BATMAN!?!?! That's perfect. That moron has all the grace of a bulldozer. There's no way he'd have been able to pull off Bruce Wayne.

I can see it now....
"Batman defeats a small gang of thugs, soars off into the night, arrives at the batmobile....but it's not where he parked it."
Batman says: "Awww...doooode, where's my car?"

Phleeeeze. That would have been worse than Mr. Freeze and his dorks on ice routine.

Troublebot 09-12-2003 01:05 PM

Clooney was ok.
Keaton was better.
Kilmer was unwatchable.

I think Bale will be alright. I remember him in Shaft and I know he can pull off the dark "Batman" side of the caracter. As long as he remembers there's a slightly softer, slightly confused "Bruce Wayne" side, he'll be fine.

cartmen34 09-12-2003 01:18 PM

Oh yeah, almost forgot the whole point of the post...

Bale as batman..... sounds good to me.

Keaton was the best on IMO.

Mr.Deflok 09-12-2003 01:40 PM

It's a pity, I was really hoping that Justin Timberlake would get the part... oh well, I guess there's always Superman... ;)

Bale + Nolan = Reciepe for a Franchise Boost

I mean, what the fuck were they thinking with all the neon lights in the last 2 bat flicks/shits??!

DownwardSpiral 09-12-2003 03:12 PM

Christian Bale I think will make a good Batman, he'll do a hell of a lot better than George Clooney, that's for sure. But how can you say that Keaton sucked as Batman, Marius1? He's the only one who played Batman and did more than one movie as Batman! I agree w/ everyone else who said Keaton was the best Batman, because he was.

fugue_life 09-12-2003 07:56 PM

Keaton is batman, bale will make the role kick ass again, but I would have liked to have seen what a comic book fan like Kevin Smith could have done.

we could have had mini-me play robin?

h2ogo69 09-12-2003 11:19 PM

bale rox my sox .... hell make it happen better than clooney either way

bundy 09-13-2003 12:00 AM

the question is not will Bale be good enough for this Batman role?

the real question is will the role be good enough for Bale?

the last few Batman movies have been SHIT - even Clooney looked bad in that film.
i mean, if its going to be another waste of money like the last two, then wouldnīt the role be better suited to someone who canīt act, like Kilmer?

have those rumours about Bale taking over as James Bond after Brosnan finishes up surfaced again as well?

eris 09-13-2003 06:52 AM

This is the best thing they could have done to save the franchaise. Baled is pretty good in the things he's done - loved American Psycho.

Batman & Robin was an abomination...

stldickie 09-13-2003 08:36 AM

A british (and slightly fem) Batman? I'll wait and see.

Hopefully it will, with Nolan at the helm. He has a lot at stake: He has to show that Memento wasn't a fluke, after the rather mediocre Insomnia.

Mr.Deflok 09-13-2003 02:28 PM

I find it funny that everyone mentions Memento and Insomnia but fails to speak word of The Following, in my mind that is the best Nolan helmed feature to date.
