The Medallion
I figured I would warn you all. I saw this movie with a girl because she asked me to.
I didn't know people got paid to make movies this lame. The humor level was a mix between infant and pre-teen, yet it had fairly violent action scenes. There were a couple enjoyable parts, and even a really cool scene that they refused to explain before or after and thus killed. Jackie Chan is no longer the star of his own movies. That choreographer for Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon leaves his mark everywhere he goes and he's ruined a brilliant martial artist's career. Cut the strings and let them fight, damn it! The girl loved it though. Maybe I am overly critical. |
Yeah, I rented "the Tuxedo" a few months ago and couldn't get through it. Watching Jackie Chan w/ special effects making him to crazy stuff takes all the charm out of everything he does.
the reason his movies are great is because you sit there watching them going "Holyshit, he is really doing that!" the Shanghai Noon and Nights movies are good. (for US Jackie Chan movies) and the Rush Hours were decent. But I don't like this SFX jackie trend. I realize he can't be doing crazy stuff forever, but I don't think he should suppliment w/ visual effects. |
i think asian stars need to get a reality check. i am asian so i am familiar with the crappy formula movies they make in asia.
i hope he can go get a clue before his career is dead. |
In re: your lady firend liking it, Jackie Chan has a lot of charisma--he's very likable in a puppy-dog way. I like even the crummy stuff he's done, 'cause he's very appealing.

Double D, thanks for saying it like it is. Jackie Chan is good in anything.
I just couldn't tell Hallx that after seeing the movie, after all, it was a date =*) |
Has anyone seen Project A? It was Jackie Chan's first Kung-Foo movie and it was awesome. I never thought a man could move that fast!
|
Yeah, the movie looked pretty dumb, but Jackie Chan is amazing. I think he still does all of his own stunts. Not bad for a 50 year old.
|
I think Jackie Chan is great, but the last movie he made that I *really* enjoyed was Gorgeous. Of course, watching Shu Qi didn't hurt. :)
As with all Hong Kong films that Hollywood studios have bought the rights to, just make sure you don't buy the American version of it - Columbia Tristar butchered it when they bought the rights. Get the Hong Kong version instead. Worth the extra couple bucks. |
self, I think Chan's "Fearless Hyena" was pretty darn good. hilarious, and a lot of good weapons usage (notably the bo staff), too.

I really liked the Shanghai nights/noon movies and both of the rush hour movies. However The Tuxedo and The Madallion both suck. I love almost all of his old movies but a few. I have seen most of his movies and I even read his biography(which was really good btw). I'm a huge fan but there is no way I'm going to go see The Madallion

The Medallion looks like a piece of crap if you ask me. Jackie Chan should have turned this one down. Same with The Tuxedo.

as if you can't tell it sucks from the trailer...
