You can tell a lot about someone by the selection of books on their shelves...or stacks on the floor...oooor scattered randomly about. Post a pic of yer books. Whaddaya think?

This was a spur of the moment idea...and represents about 50% of me books...My library is not perfect nor will it ever be complete
but I can honestly say I've read mmmmost all of its contents. Each book has a story(pun intended) My Library is one of my very few earthly treasures.

Hmm... I have a really old edition of the Encylcopaedia Britannica (1985 I think). Some books on programming (Visual Basica and C++), on another shelf I have a Grainger catalogue (like 700 pages thick or so), American Heritage Dictionary, another book on C++, book on American Folklore, "Further Predictions of Nostradamus" (found it on the floor outside infront of a dumpster), a copy of the Holy Bible (no, not religious or anything like that, but it's good to have a copy of it for reference), some mechanical books on old Ford vehicles, and some other crap. On another shelf we have a ton of our really old children's books. Finally, I have my own personal little library of books by the greatest author of all time: Robert A. Heinlein.

I own somewhere between 350 and 400 books. Nonfiction is organized according to the Dewey Decimal Classification system. I have the most nonfiction books on writing, followed by exercise, New York City guides, and music. Fiction is alphabetical by author, mostly children's and teen literature. I own several autographed volumes and a ton of galleys (I'm a book reviewer and get galleys free for review). Problem is, I only own one bookcase, so most of the collection is in cardboard boxes. Wonder what that says about me (besides "I'm moving").

I just got back into reading again, going through a large book about every week. I went through my old books and picked out a few, plus what I have read in the last few months and I made a list.

Myself, I have about 800 paperbacks and a few hardcover, but they're all packed in boxes awaiting the bookshelves that are awaiting the new floor. Sure is a pita.

I wish I could post a picture, but my digital camera is about 1000 miles away right now, which sucks on it's own. I've got 5 bookshelves chock full of books, with enough books double layerd or piled up to fill 1-2 more. Right now there are 2 enourmous wine glasses, some dead flowers, a preacher pvc set, a bebop pvc set, a carebear pvc set, some glass unicors, metal voltron in a box, a five lb bag of flour, and some gundams scatterd around the tops of them, and on the outer edges of shelves that aren't full.

Ok... just look up at yer books and report back to me...

I would show pics of my shelves, but I don't have a digicam, and don't want to waste film and time - developing, scanning, etc. On the other hand, I'll try to describe what I have - 2 4x6 ft. bookshelves, crammed full, books lining the top of those, 2 3x4 bookshelves, crammed full, a 3x6 bookshelf, crammed full, books on top of that, and 3 6 ft. bookshelves crammed full. plus some more books lying around, either unorganized or in plastic crates. I have everything except romance novels, from what I can tell. most of what I have for the separate collections, I have complete (or am working on completing). and then I have comic books (not the books of comics, which are on the shelves) in a separate box from the shelves. conclusion: I need more shelves. and money.

don't have time or resources to take a pic atm...but imagine 3 shelves with nothing but Star Wars novels (almost every one printed as of this post). then imagine another bookcase full of Star Trek, Battletech, Ender's Game, and other miscellaneous science fiction novels. add that to a few reference books (Star Wars, military, old yearbooks, etc.)...and that's my library.

People treat their bookshelves like a trophy case. It's usually out in a place where visitors can see them. The bookshelf could be located in a back room or a bedroom but I mostly see them in living rooms. As if to say "look at all that I have conquered!"

But in all fairness, yes, my book case is in a place where all visitors see it too. :thumbsup:

At the moment, my books are either packed in storage or in a drawer.....so I'll just summarize.

I've got a lot of:
-Patricia Cornwell
-Stephen King
-Clive Cussler
-All of the Harry Potter books
-Ken Follett

I've also got:
-Nora Roberts
-Various other romances/harlequins
-"True" stories, such as Alive, Murder in Greenwich, etc.

And the classics:
-To Kill A Mockingbird
-Crime and Punishment
-The Catcher In the Rye
-The Kama Sutra (this is a classic, isn't it??)
-Wuthering Heights
-1984

Plus various other textbooks I kept from college that I found interesting.

I used to have a lot more books, but my sister stole some and I lost a bunch when I moved. Plus, my sister has WAY more books than me, and I usually just borrow hers when I want something new to read.

My books are a smattering of subjects, mostly non-fiction and reference type stuff. Some stuff on poker, some stuff on games, some stuff on art. I'll post a pic this weekend.

I used to have 8 bookshelves full of books but a fire a few years ago kind of toasted them. Havent had much time for "leisure reading" since then.

My library is so sad. I think I have 10 books. I want to at least fill up a big book shelf and show a little bit of intellegence in my home. Thanx for the pics.

What do I own?

Well, recently I have read Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, The Dark Valley: a Panorama of the 1930s, several of Elizabeth Peters' "Amelia Peabody" mysteries, a couple of Phil Rickman's "Merrily Watkins" books, and also heavily referenced about half a dozen books on life in the Regency Period of England and angelology.

I own four Bibles (one Vulgate), the Elder and Prose Eddas, the complete Patrick O'Brian Aurbrey-Mataurin series, most of the works of HP Lovecraft, about three dozen books on the history of the 11th-13th centuries in England and France, about 500 books on King Arthur (everything from Geoffrey of Monmouth to Bernard Cornwell), several PG Wodehouse collections, and rather a lot of miscellaneous reference works.

And I have a lot of thingies and doodads on the shelves to make sure the books are never lonely -- Asterix & Obelix toys, a couple of glass pens, pictures of friends and family, Chariface Chippendale & The Tick, parts of geodes, bookmarks, change in a jar, old beer bottles, letter openers, and bits of fascinating wood that I have found along the road.

I am considered pretty eclectic in my tastes by my friends; on the average I read 2 books a week, more so if they are something simple like a Sandman collection.
