I rented this movie a while ago and like it. I couldnt sit still through it but i thought it was good. At the end i said i will never watch that again. But still ... i thought it was oddly good. Especially the scene in hawaii where he is in the phone booth talking to his sister. Give me your opinions on this movie if you have seen it.

I loved it....it had it's funny parts in the appropriate parts.

I'm not sure if I can put it as eloquently as I did when I was explaining the point of it to a friend of mine but here goes:

It was about a guy who was finally able to overcome his social phobia brought on by a hard upbringing by sisters and finally be able to find happiness for himself.

The fact that his mental torture came from females (all his sisters) made it especially difficult for him to become comfortable with a member of the opposite sex.

I liked it because of Anderson's abstract minimalist direction. Magnolia was the kind of three hour sellf indulgence I thought was reserved only for Oliver Stone. And I thought P.T. Anderson had unfortunately gone the way of Ken Russel. Then this came out and suprised me. Really I'd highly reccomend this movie to anyone who hasn't seen it.

I've got a good Punch Drunk Love story, and yes it relates to the movie in question.

So I rented this movie, expecting it to be good, because Adam Sandler has always entertained me. Now, I was not oblivious to the subject matter and tone of the movie, I knew it wasn't going to be anything like Happy Gilmore, The Waterboy or any of the other neo-classic Adam Sandler flicks. But I didn't know it was going to be so completely devoid of comedy (and substance).

However, this was a very good thing! You're probably thinking "now that's strange, how could a movie being awful be a good thing?"

Well as it turns out I started watching the movie with 8 people in total, but approximately 15 minutes in the room cleared out except for the two people with the highest tolerance for bad movies... myself and a girl I didn't know before the movie, but got to know because of it... been going out ever since.

At least u got something out of the movie...all I got was lighter in the pocket and bored senseless...it was the worst movie I have ever seen...in fact, my wife, who likes everything, Hated it too!!

I think a lot of people missed the point of this movie, either they were not able to get a handle on it, or they just were not interested in Sandler doing anything besides "poo poo pee pee, I'm crazy man, gimmie some candy!"

For the most part movies have a begining, a middle and an end, they have plot and character development and by the time it is over all the scenes have fit well together tell a story. Some directors, like Lynch and Burton and now PTA have attemped to break away from this old method of story construction. At the end of "Punch Drunk Love" and "Mullholand Drive" for example you were left sitting there thinking....what the fuck just happened? You had to decide what some of it meant and at the very least discuss it with other intelligent viewers, PTA decided not to just hand you all the answers, and I liked that about this movie.

If you have not see it already, Punch Drunk Love will challenge you and make you use your head more than you are used to with most American movies. If you'd rather just sit in front of the screen like a post, they stick with J-Lo movies.

You guys would never last watching open ended French movies.

I own the movie. I haven't watched it yet, but I bought the DVD for a trip we were going on. Now y'all have me scared that it is going to suck. I will keep an open mind.....

That's perhaps the best summary of what is good in "non-Hollywood" movies I've seen in ages.

Unfortunately, a lot of movie-goers just "don't get it", and prefer mental pop-corn a la T3 and Legally Blonde.

I'd hate to see some of these posters try to sit through an entire Mike Leigh film!!

According to Sesame Street that's the way stories are supposed to go...and if it's good enough for Big Bird it's good enough for me...I want my movies, books, TV shows to tell a complete story not leave me pondering their meaning...I have a real life to ponder and that's plenty!

I am a huge fan of bizzarre, deep, and especially independant films. Punch Drunk Love, to me, seemed like they tried to make it deep and strange but they just didn't achieve that. I found myself watching and waiting for the story to get even the slightest bit interesting...but it never did. It was, however, nice to see Adam Sandler playing a serious role. Its fun to see actors show off their skills :)

Hey there's nothing wrong with that, popcorn movies have their place too, I like things like the Matrix, ...28 Days Later and T2 (but not T3), just shut off yer brain and let fly the SFX baby!

I really don't know why I care all that much, I thought Punch Drunk was OK, but certainly not in my Top 10.

I'm an over-analizer, but this movie was too much. I was sooo looking forward to a non-comedic Adam Sandler movie. I think he is very tallented. But there was just way too much to ponder in this flick. What the hell was up w/the baby piano? That aspect still has me wondering. It was not a horrible movie, but not a great one, either.

Wasn't this a thread that was around last month? Anyways, there isn't much to think about - it was a good movie, if you don't 'understand' it then what's the point. I don't specifically know what every scene in 2001 is about but I love that film.
