Queer Eye for the Straight Guy
Man, I didn' think I would like this show because it would be "Just another remodeling/make-over show". Oh man, was I wrong.
This is a show that is actually funny and good to watch. Why? Because, if you didn't know, there are five gay guys who help out a straight guy impress a woman (Usually a girlfriend/wife/fiancee). As you may suspect, most of the show is unscripted, if not the entire thing. THIS IS A GOOD THING. All five of the gay guys are constantly hitting on the straight guy if he is good looking, or completely tearing the guy down (good or ugly looking) for his sense in fashion, cleanliness, culture, and all the things that make a person who he is. Lets see if I can remember... There's what I suppose is the main guy who is the fashion wiz. He's the one that does most of the talking and most of the hitting on. Then theres the Food guy. He's probably the most butch out of all of them. Then the home designer. He's... yeah. A culture guy (music, language), who really doesn't get to do much. A body person, who does the hair and cleaning of the self. Yeah, that 's all five of them. If you like remodeling shows, and you like make-over shows, then you'll like Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. If you like watching a bunch of obviously gay guys who know they are gay and make sure everyone knows that they are, then you'll like this show. If you just like laughing at people for pointing things out, you'll like this show. If you are a homo-phobe... watch the show. You'll learn something. I love the show as well. I caught it the other day randomly as I was channel surfing and I was instantly hooked. I normally don't like makeover/re-designing shows (example: Trading Spaces), but Queer Eye for the Straight Guy was very very entertaining overall. I hope it stays on for a long time. It's already inspired "spoofs" where a local tv station back home hired 5 guys (didn't explicitly say they were gay though) to make over this local radio personality.
It's a fun show... entertaining to watch. |
The show is great! It is so funny to watch 5 gay men hit on an obviously straight guy and watch him get all embarassed. The show does some wonderful things for these guys though. I believe everybody needs a gay man in their life. Watch the show and learn!

spleener... it's gone mainstream. nbc picked up the show and played it to great reviews... it may just find a home there... check local listings for details.

I saw one episode of it and found it hilarious. They want to make sure everybody knows, with out any doubt, that they love Penis and Penis loves them. From all the Sodomy Euphamisms to constantly flirting with the person they are helping. It's all fun.
My Girlfriend's sister is obsessed with Remodeling shows, so whenever I go over to her house, all I end up doing is watching Trading Spaces with her. Most of those rooms look...horrible. |
man, i hate reality tv. Die reality tv, die.
|
My wife and I think it's hilarious as well. We were watching one day with her sister's boyfriend who is a tremendous homphobe and I think he was one good gag away from throwing up.
Despite that, it's funny, entertaining, and pretty informative as well. Those guys are good at what they do. |
My wife watches this with her girlfriends and their laughter is disturbing my computer time.
|
Whats up with all these silly queer shows popping up now? First this and now "Boy meets fucking Boy"? At least queer eye is funny. Next thing you know there will be a show where five gay guys are trying to turn a straight guy into a homosexual. Haha
|
They alternately put down and hit on the straight guy...
This show is a frikkin' GAS!!! |
I just caught an episode of this show this morning and I loved it. It's funny and informative. Heck I'm going to buy those shaving products the grooming guy was advocating. I must admit my tolerance for reality tv is maxxed out but this show helps my semi-cro-magnon self walk upright a little.

Agreed. Love the show.
My roommates and I thought they should now make "Straight Eye for the Queer Guy". You know, a bunch of fraternity brothers crash at some guy's San Francisco apartment for the weekend. Imagine the possibilities. "Are those boxers in my kitchen sink!?!?! And that ---thing -- is that a woman's thong on my bed?! Who put the neon PBR sign in my front window?! Oh what Chad will say when he gets home!" *womanly shriek* |
They were just on Howard Stern. They made over Artie, one of the guys on the show.
|
Watched it tonight with my female roommate. It's enjoyable enough, though it smacks of TLC. Best line from tonight's show?
"What does she have that I don't, aside from a working vagina?" |
hehe, I like that quote too ;)
My favorite, though, is "Hey, whenever you feel like making out with me, just ask" |
Yes, Carson is the funniest!! (the fashion guy)
Best quote: "People tell me I look like Ellen Degeneres.." LMAO! This show is one of my favorites! |
That show just doesn't seem right... at all...
|
I kinda wished they had a website or something that would list all the tips they've given in the shows. Somethings I don't need to know (I think they gave advice on napkin folding) but some other tips (like shaving and such) would be nice to be able to glance at real quick before going on a date.
|
I caught it last night and thought it was pretty funny. The made-over dude was a good sport about the guys going off on him and the streak in his boxers, and they queer guys did a good job on him. I don't think I'll be setting time aside to watch it, but if I'm flipping channels I might stop on it for a while.

I normally HATE "reality" shows, but this one rocks. I was a little concerned over the gay stereotypes portrayed by the Fab5, but overall the show really works.
