The Hobbit Video Blog

Peter Jackson has this nice long blog posted on his Facebook page. It's started filming! I like how they blur out things in the production boards to not give away anything or start rumours about the movies. Pretty impressive of how many people are involved in the movie from wardrobe, set design etc.

Pretty cool. I really like that Jackson seems to really care about these films.
Yes, I realize these are for promotion pruposes, and so he kind of has to seem cheerful, but I do believe he's genuinely trying to make the best possible movies with The Hobbit.

I would pay an obscene amount of money to live in a real-life Bag End from the Shire. Obscene. Earth-sheltered, gorgeous woodwork, circular doors, iron hinges, a stone fireplace... I'm sorry, but I nerd out like crazy for this stuff.

I adored the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and I can't wait for The Hobbit.

Baraka_Guru 04-19-2011 03:04 PM

I can't fucking wait.

(And, wow, Peter Jackson has lost a lot of weight. And those ridiculous glasses.)

Me too! I have some of those touches in my current home, but alas, it's not Bag End.

I just finished re-reading The Hobbit (today, actually), and I was totally excited to get to watch this when I finally got home this evening. I am really stoked for this movie.

So guess who saw this a few days ago, and spent the last few days rewatching the extended LotR?

:)

The only thing that's bad about this is the wait.

I'm trying so hard not to get my hopes up for this these (apparently they're splitting it into 2 movies?!). The hobbit is far and away my favorite book and I really liked the LotR movies. There is so much to get excited about, but I know however much I get my hopes up, it will be that much easier to disappoint and I just cannot bear to have this turn out so-so.

Have no fear!! I believe the effort Jackson is putting into these movies will turn into a couple of amazing movies!

Fili and Kili

I could nit pick but I won't. I think all the dwarves will look much better when they get dirty. :)

Hmmm...I was expecting all the dwarves to look short and round like Gimli.

Baraka_Guru 07-14-2011 04:17 AM

Gloin has a similar build to his son Gimli. If you recall the full body shots of Gimli, he actually wasn't all that rotund after all, though he does have broad shoulders.

Also realize that dwarves such as Fili and Kili are younger, and so they aren't quite as filled out as some of their seniors. :)

Reese 07-14-2011 02:38 PM

Bofur is my new favorite dwarf! He's not going to fit in any barrel!

Willravel 07-14-2011 03:03 PM

Yeah, I'm digging Bofur's ridiculous hair necklace.

Baraka_Guru 07-14-2011 03:24 PM

Agreed.

I'm excited about this- I always wondered why they chose to go with Fellowship of the Ring for the first movie, as I thought The Hobbit was a smashingly excellent book from start to finish. For me, Fellowship seemed more like a travelogue.

In any case, count me in. :)

Don't you think they dwarves are a bit too stylized? Gimli looked simple compare to these guys. He has a shitload of hair and you can barely see his face. He (they) didn't try (make him) to look "cool" 'cause he was all business in the LOTR movies. I dunno, the new dwarves' looks deviates from what I'm accustomed to...and I'm not sure what to make of it.

Good point about Fili and Kili, BG. Perhaps I should reacquaint myself with The Hobbit in closer details.
